Every so often a book comes along that I take a strong dislike to. So while there are very few redeeming qualities about The Sin Eater’s Prince, it did evoke a strong reaction. Unfortunately it is a negative reaction to the poor writing, badly clichéd plot, flat characters that are seriously too stupid to live, and several moments where I literally threw the book. The biggest crime in my opinion is that the characters always took the weak, stupid way out to prolong the drama instead of using intelligence and ingenuity to solve problems. However this is just my opinion and apparently others enjoy this book and there is a pretty lushly descriptive setting employed. Other than that, I recommend skipping this offering.

The story is about paranormal being, Owen Rhys, who absorbs the sins of the dead and dying so they can go to heaven in peace. Hated and feared by his small town village, Owen is the quintessential outsider. Not helping matters is his attraction to the local doctor, Andras Maddock, who just happens to be a vampire. Andras saves Owen from a vampire attack by using a special sword one night which leads to a revenge plot against them by rival vampires. These rival vampires set the local town against Owen and Andras must race to save Owen against first the town then the other vampires.

The plot is heavily contrived as it relies on stupid actions and coincidences to carry the plotline forward. Part of this problem is that the paranormal aspects are ill described. The story seems to rely on exaggerations instead of subtly, which unfortunately don’t always work very well. The evil vampires are the oldest, most powerful in the universe – and described exactly like that – while they can read minds, alter time, walk invisibly, and turn into mythical creatures. Yet for all their phenomenal cosmic power, they persist on a somewhat ridiculous revenge scheme using Owen against Andras to get the historical, magic sword. It’s difficult to buy into the plot when these great creatures could end the problem anytime they wanted as dozens of uber powerful vampires would seem to be an adequate offensive against one man and a magical sword.

A similar issue arises when Owen is attacked by the world’s oldest and most powerful vampire and Andras manages to kill the vampire despite being a weakling half breed vampire. Supposedly Andras refuses to drink human blood which robs him of his natural vampire power. The explanation is that the magical sword is enough to aid Andras yet there are several scenes later when Andras has longer sword fights with less powerful vampires, barely winning. This particular exaggerated fight scene also comes on the heels of a largely foreshadowing comment, which practically guarantees Owen will be attacked but of course Owen ignores the warning. This is the first of many too stupid to live moments for Owen making him a thoroughly unlikable and uninteresting character. However the plot itself relies heavily on Owen’s poor choices and drags the drama out even when common sense and intelligence would solve the problems.

The characterization of Owen is problematic because the story relies so heavily on him constantly getting into trouble. Owen has several –way too many– martyr moments where he takes it upon himself to die or sacrifice himself for others. The first is for his ridiculous small town, which doesn’t like him or care about him, but Owen’s non-existent self esteem is such that he decides to let them kill him anyway. Why he does this is pretty questionable and doesn’t help Owen’s characterization except to show he has no pride in himself whatsoever and no real intelligence either. He is a walking cliché that allows himself to be put into danger several times while offering himself up each time to an evil, lying, powerful vampire in a “deal.” These kinds of clichés frankly drove me crazy while reading. Whenever Owen has a chance to be cunning or intelligent or sly, he always picks the weak sacrificial answer. This also isn’t helped by his almost instant love and sexual relationship with Andras. There is some question about Andras bound to protect Owen but other than mentioned once, this is dropped and the two are instantly in love. Their depth of feeling and supposed intensity feels artificial and forced without the accompanying action and emotion to make their connection real.

None of the characters are well developed and tend to be stereotypes. From the very typical evil villains to the townsfolk, and even the one rare supporter, none of the cast stands out as unique and terribly interesting. The villains all make classic evil mistakes such as explaining their plan or falling in love with Owen for no real reason. This ties into the completely ridiculous ending that involves more paranormal creatures and contradicts itself. The spell placed on Owen suddenly goes away with no explanation and the affects – rather severe – totally ignored in a huge, superpower laced ending. The setting itself is very classic historical with a witch-hunt atmosphere while adding in a wealth of foreign terms. Some of the descriptions are lush and evocative but lumber under wordy and overblown prose. Often the writing tries too hard such as in these examples:

Owen Rhys felt the inexplicable portent in his marrow and wondered if prophesizing death was an inherent curse of being a sin eater.

He didn’t dwell on the thought for long. The magnificent view from his summit obliterated the dismal musings from his mind.

The prose and dialogue just attempts to be more wordy than necessary and doesn’t add any additional texture or depth. Instead this makes reading slightly laborious. Unfortunately this story just fails to deliver on any level. The characters are unattractive with too many classic cliché antics while the dialogue and prose tends to be clumsy. The weak characterization, improbable and ridiculous plot combines with an incomplete world building and elements that don’t make sense nor are explained to any satisfaction. Even the romance aspect fails with weak chemistry and characters that offer little to each other. The setting does have some nice authentic touches and comes across as dark, dreary, and gray. So that at least is successful but ultimately I can’t recommend this book.

The Sin Eater’s Prince is a sexy and atmospheric tale that reminded me a bit of an old-timey gothic horror movie starring a young Vincent Price, if he were a vampire who preferred handsome auburn tressed young men, that is!

Photobucket

Is that picture not dreamy? Ok, back to business. Set in Wales in 1842, Owen lives amidst superstition. He is a sin-eater and deemed unholy by the townsfolk who only call on him when a loved one is dying. It is Owen’s job to consume the sins of the dying so their souls are able to move on cleansed and free of sin.

“Born a sin eater, I’m unsavory, destined to lead an afterlife in Hell carrying the sins of others. Visions of death haunt me night and day”

Sweet, tormented Owen, I loved him from the very start. And for Owen’s kind deeds he is shunned, called unclean and lives a lonely existence with only goats and a fiddle for company. The only two people who are civil to him are Doctor Andras Maddock and his ward Carys who stops by often for goat milk and doesn’t seem to give a damn about what people say. Owen has had a secret crush on the handsome doctor forever and never in his wildest dreams expected to act upon it. When he finds his attraction returned, well, let’s just say things heat up and years of pent up longing are released.

“He tasted like summer rain and Andras couldn’t slake his thirst fast enough.”

Stop here to ponder whatever you wish.

Andras is a vampire in possession of a magical sword that another clan of vampires will do anything to possess. When they get wind that he’s been spending a little too much time with Owen they realize they have the perfect weapon to wield against him. What follows is an action packed smack-down of evil creatures, selfish small-minded towns-peopl and a rough road to happiness for the lovely Andras and Owen.

I was enchanted by the opening of this story. Longing from afar and secret crushes along with a nice slow burn of attraction sucks me in every time and the atmosphere was fab and very well done. But if I’m being completely honest, I have to admit that I really, truly wish the story had stayed focused on Owen and Andras’s new feelings as a couple and their banter as they formed a relationship because when the focus switched to more of a standard good vs. baddies my interest began to wane. But that’s my personal bias and I freely admit it. I’m not a huge danger and action kind of girl and go for the more intimate character based reads. I know I’m probably in the minority based on the explosion of danger based paranormal romances.

I enjoyed the heat between Andras and Owen and found much of the writing intoxicating but would’ve enjoyed spending more time watching Andras and Owen fall in love and getting to know sarcastic and independent Carys better (loved what I saw of her) before all of the bloodshed began. But that’s me, I’m greedy like that. For the most part, this was a haunting, hypnotic and sexy little story and a good way to while away a few hours.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Entertaining & Seductively Written

Awesome Read! A story full of world building creativity that brings forth entertainment full of legends, folk lore, and where superstitions rule the town’s people blindly. This fascinating story captures the reader’s heart and sympathy immediately as the story describes a forbidden love between two men who struggle with the secrets of their true feelings towards each other and how society will accept their other worldly secrets as well.

The Sin Eater “Owen” is a lonely lad not fit to live within the village of his people, or even to sleep in a household because of his profession of being a sin eater no matter that the town’s people call upon him to take the burden of their love ones sins from them before they pass away in order for them to move on to heaven. He has one desire however and that is to have a normal relationship with someone he desires, and that someone so happens to be the towns doctor “Andras”.

Andras, the towns doctor has a secret of his own, he has wanted Owen since he first laid eyes on him and for years he has kept his secret of being a vampire from the town. One way he has kept his secret is he doesn’t consume human blood and only feeds off animals and another is because of a magical sword that Dragan and his vicious kind want, a magical sword that when carried at his side allows him to walk during daylight therefore keeping his vampire state a secret.

However, circumstances within the town bring about too many deaths from the otherworldly creatures and Andras secret is short lived when the tragedy brings him closer to Owen in a fight to save his life.

The story is full of action and drama of finger pointing from the superstitious beliefs that will keep you glued to the pages as Andras fights Dagan (Evil blood thirsty vampire) to save Owen and keeps the vampires and underworld lore from gaining the sword. And if that wasn’t magical enough, Owen has powers he didn’t even realize he had when he called forth the sins of all the were-wolves who were chasing them, causing them to turn and retreat.

The connection between Owen and Andras is hypnotizing and seductively passionate as their erotic scenes are lustful and gently played out while Owen is new and inexperienced to the male/male sexual interactions. After all the drama is over and Owen learns how he must live with his new affliction of being a vampire along with being a sin eater, Andras and Owen are able now to find a life time of happiness together making it the perfect HEA.

Fantastic Story!

Astonising! I never knew what or Sin Eater was and up until now I've never even heard of one and thanks to Keta she brings one to light in this love story between a Sin Eater and a gorgeous vampire. A truly unique mix and I commend Keta for her creativity with this one.

The setting is an era unknown to me, but I picked up on the meaning of certain lingo quickly and I'm proud of myself for it.

Owen is the Sin Eater in this book and he's a man you can't help but fall for. He's unselfish, caring, places the best interests and lives of other above his own believing he's cursed. My heart is with him. Now the vampire Andras is one hot to trot dude. A vampire with the soul and human heart who has been deeply in love with Owen for years and of course there's always that enemy that comes along. Thought he was hot too.

Yes I enjoyed this book and yes I do believe others will also enjoy it given it the chance. The story is detailed and lengthy, but rest assured it will not leaving you with want for more.

I'm always on the lookout for good paranormal m/m reads, and this one fit the bill perfectly. You can't help but fall for Owen, the sin eater, and want to see him find some happiness in his lonely life. It was heartbreaking to read about how the community would use him for his services as a sin eater and then discard him without a thought. I hope the author will revisit Owen and Andras in a future title.

The Sin-Eater’s Prince is an incredible tale set in a world where one man, a sin eater, ritually takes on other’s sins at death through a meal and magic. Owen Rhys is a sin eater. He is shunned by the village because of what he is. There is one man who does not – Dr. Andras Maddock. Owen finds himself falling in love with Andras, even though he knows nothing can come of that love. He is surprised to discover that Andras is actually a vampire.

While saving Owen from an enemy, Andras, who feels the same love as Owen, is forced to kill and is now being pursued by Dagan, the Dark Lord of the underworld. Dagan wants more than revenge. He also wants the Prince of Wales sword, a sword that gives vampires special powers.

The scene is set for the engaging tale of good and evil, of love and hate. Sin eaters were very real at one time. I loved how the history was entrenched in the story. It was such a pleasure to see these two fall in love and it is that love that will save them. This was an amazing tale from beginning to end. I recommend to all who love the paranormal and history in the MM love stories.

Review:

The Sin Eaters Prince by Keta Diablo takes place in Pembrokeshire, Southwest Wales in 1842--a time seeped in superstition. This story captivated me right away. Diablo gives her readers time to first meet all the characters, main and secondary, because they all hold vital parts as the story unfolds. As subplots intertwine, the story dives deeper into both Owen and Andra's past, and the heart of the tale becomes more intriguing. I was hooked. Because it became clear this tale was leading to something bigger. And I was right. Especially where it comes to Owen Rhys--the town's Sin Eater.

The one gifted with magic, able to absorb the sins of a dying person so that
person's soul is free to go devoid of sin to heaven, there was more to this
character then just being a sin eater. Much more. And I had to find out. Alone,
now, since Owen’s father died, he has only one friend, Carys whose employed by
the town's physician, the handsome Andras Maddock. Andras is the man that Owen
can’t help but have such deep intense affection for. And with each passing day
gets harder and harder to repress. But when Owen learns that Andras feels the
same way for him…I wish I could describe the emotions the moment when these two men unleash their passion for each other. It took my breath away.

Even though Andras is a vampire and Owen being a sin eater and shunned by
everyone, it doesn’t matter to either of them. I was also awestruck how
beautifully Owen and Andras attraction for each other just would not be denied.
But now that they have found each other, there is someone who wants to take it
away.

Dagan, a vampire and a long-time enemy of Andras, is their enemy. But the
stakes are higher now because Andreas has done the impossible and killed Dagan’s
father. Dagan seeks to avenge his father's death by destroying Andras and
everyone he holds dear. But first, he must get one thing from Andras--an ancient
weapon so powerful it will give vampires the power to walk in the sun. And he
has found just how to do that through Andras' weakness. Owen.

This love story is electric. The story is full of ancient folk lore, as well as werewolves and even dragons! And every factor is essential to the plot. As I was nearing the story's end, a part of me was melancholic in my feelings. I’d gotten so involved in Owen and Andras' story that my thoughts were pensive as I turned that last page.

Owen is one of those perfect males... a quiet, humble man... one that is gorgeous, but doesn’t know it, one that gives of himself day after day and expects nothing in return. From the beginning I fell for Owen. I was so worried he would get his heart stomped upon or end up being used and tossed away. But someone else noticed how amazing Owen is... Andras, small town physician and vampire-in-hiding. The two admire each other from afar, never expecting their lust and desire to be returned. Yet fate brings them together and leads them on a wonderful journey.

Their love story is uncomplicated and full of life. They don’t play games with one another and act on their desires almost immediately in the book (although it has been about 5 years of backstory for the two of them.) Their union does not disappoint. Their love making is HOT and full of beautiful emotions that pulled on my heart strings. There is detailed m/m erotic sex, so if you are at all leery of m/m romance, you may want to steer clear. However, I found the romance so beautiful, it didn’t matter to me what their sexual preferences were.

But, this story does not end with the union of Owen and Andras. Enter Dagan, long tooth (vampire) and bad guy extraordinaire. His father was slain by Andras and now Dagan wants revenge - as well as the magical sword which Andras holds. In order to defeat Andras, Dagan discovers the physician’s weakness: Owen. Dagan uses Owen in his attempts to bring down Andras. Yet Dagan is also drawn to beautiful Owen, and I wondered: is there more to this simple man than meets the eye?

The Sin Eater’s Prince takes place in old-Wales and the mythology is slightly different that the “typical” vampire romance. The vamps are not the good guys and there is no hot and heavy blood-sucking fantasies. Andras must fight his dark side continuously. Ms. Diablo incorporates various Welsh tales and traditions, which gives it a darker undertone and that “old world” vibe.

In addition, we meet a handful of supporting characters that fill out the story. I enjoyed kind-hearted Carys, and hope that we may see a future where she finds a lovely man to warm her heart.

The only downside to this tale was the ease at which Dagan and his clan was brought down. There was a lot of build-up and it seemed a bit too easy or too quick for my taste. In addition, I was left wondering about the mysterious werewolves, the evil dragon lord, Draig, and a few other things.

Those unanswered questions coupled with the open-ended, vision-of-the-future epilogue, have my interest piqued for a second book. With Owen was just learning of his true nature and potential, I sure hope Ms. Diablo follows up on this delightful tale. The Sin Eater’s Prince is an enjoyable read that I definitely recommend.

My Rating: #4 stars.

The Sin Eater’s Prince is a story with such deep sense of sadness and yet it is a beautiful tale of love. Keta Diablo brings this incredible dichotomy to life in this quickly-moving story. From a life wrought in loneliness rises a man capable of redemption. Set in long ago England, Owen Rhys is the sin eater of his village which means he absorbs the sins of the newly departed so that they may go cleansed into the afterlife. Because of this position, he has been shunned by the local villagers his entire life. Yet to this reader, Owen is a near perfect male... simple, humble, giving, honorable, and of course, handsome.

Sadly, Owen has exactly two friends. First, Carys is a young girl who cares for Owen as a brother. She’s equally sweet and kind – very likeable – whose courage later in the book earns her my respect. And then there’s Andras, the town’s physician who has cared for Owen from afar. Andras has a secret that keeps him away from Owen – he’s a vampire who has been watching over him just as he pledged to Owen’s father before he passed away. Andras fights his dark side continuously to keep himself good. With such a deep sense of honor, Andras has kept himself apart from the man he desires so as not to turn him, thereby forcing him to live the life Andras himself has been forced to live. Owen, of course, is shocked then when Andras saves him from another vampire and admits he cares for him.

Their love story is so simple – pure and untarnished by the world. With years of history between them, it seems natural when they take the step to consummate their love. And, mm mmm, their consummation is hot while also being incredibly beautiful. The emotional connection warmed me – the fact that Owen could find acceptance through Andras was incredibly moving; and the vivid imagery Diablo presents gave this reader the shivers. The ultimate in romance played out as the men accepted their fate and came together.

Now, the story isn’t just about the two men falling in love (‘cause that would be boring). Here’s where the protagonist comes into play - Dagan, the evil vampire.

Owen Rhys is what people call a Sin Eater. When people are on the brink of death they call him in to take their sins away so they can pass with a clean slate. For this he is shunned from society where people cross to the other side of the street and avoid eye contact. Needless to say he has very little contact with people which just breaks my heart. He is helping people out and should be praised for this not looked down upon! I guess it's the whole scared of what he is way of thinking. One thing is for certain, the local doctor and his helper will never ignore Owen. The good doctor knows what it's like to hide who you truly are.

Andras is entranced with Owen. From the first time he laid eyes on him he was hooked. When Owen decides to make the trek home in the middle of the night, Andras gets the bad feeling and sets after him. Finally finding him in the forest, he sees that he is being attacked by a vampire. He does what any other person secretly in love with someone does, attack the thing as if his life depended on it. Even though the vampire is now slain, Andras knows that his son will soon come looking for his father and will attack if they don't leave the area.

Making it back to Owen's cabin, he asks Andras what he really is. Not wanting to lie, he tells him the truth, he is a long tooth, or vampire. Of course he isn't the traditional kind for he does not feed off humans but animals. After taking this all in, Owen is actually completely fine with everything. Actually, it's quite a turn on. Boy do those two burn up the sheets! The sexual energy is on the top of the charts. I am pretty sure anyone who reads this book will agree with me too. ;)

The story was written wonderfully. You can tell that Keta put in a lot of work researching that time period for this book from the dialect to what is traditional in the villages those days. I really enjoyed the connection that Owen and Andras had between the two of them. Oh and I loved that Keta threw in some tongue and cheek between the characters too. Some of the stuff that came out of Owen's mouth made me laugh. It was so refreshing! I am so happy I had the chance to read this wonderful book. Keta has a new fan. :)

Owen is the local sin eater. The people he lives amongst only have need of him when someone has died. They expect him to take those persons sins so that they may go forth into the afterlife. Owen has grown accustomed to his lonely existence. He spends his time waiting for the local physician to call him to his next departing soul. It is the only thing he looks forward to, the local physician summoning him. Owen has become attracted to Andras. Owen knows that wanting the touch of another man is forbidden. He has little care. He knows that the Andras would never desire one as lowly as the sin eater.

Andras has his own secrets. One is that he desires Owen. The biggest secret is that he is a vampire. He has hidden the truth of what he is for five years. After he was attacked and left in the forest to bleed to death he returned to his home and physicians practice. He holds true to the oath he took as a physician to never harm.

I enjoyed the world immensely. The characters believe heavily in their superstitions. The townspeople also fear what they do not understand. When some of the young maidens turn up killed by a viciousness they do not know they quickly seek for a scapegoat in the sin eater. Andras and Owen both know what was responsible for their deaths, but to expose the vampire responsible is to expose Andras. Vampires are not the only creature that needs to be feared. Keta has also woven werewolves and dragons into the mix for this fantastical read.

First and foremost i have to say this was my first M/M romance and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have been planning to delve in this genre for a while and having the chance to start with one that has the paranormal involved as well, was just perfect.

Owen is a simple man, ostracized by society's utter ignorance and prejudice and tormented by his gift. He is a soul eater. He has the ability to sense that death is near and to "eat" the dying person's sins in order for their spirit to rise unencumbered. His biggest secret is his affections for the village's doctor, Andreas.

Besides being a physician, Andreas is a vampire and one with a long and sad history. He feels he has a duty towards Owen's father and plans to keep it. Andreas has feelings for Owen as well, but fears for him, because an older and very powerful vampire is hunting for a relic he possesses.

I really liked Owen and Andreas's tale. It was full of adventure and their romance was sizzling hot. Andreas is a very strong character, stubborn at times, but definitely an Alpha male that likes to take charge.

Owen is seemingly more submissive, but I enjoyed seeing him grow throughout the novel and really like the more assertive man he became.

All in all, The Sin Eater's Prince was a fun read and a great romance. Definitely a great way to get me started on this genre.

A fast paced guilty pleasure that kept me reading and excited about what was coming next. I loved the historical setting coupled with the folklore and superstition spun into this erotic story. The voice and dialogue was consistent and nicely used which strengthened the quality and enjoyment. The supernatural is grounded and flows with the plot line. A sexy book great to snuggle up with at bedtime or read to relax on vacation. It is for mature adults and has some explicit sexual scenes.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Sin Eater's Prince. I'm a big fan of m/m romance and this didn't disappoint. Owen is the Sin Eater and Andras is a vampire. They both long for each other, but they try to resist the attraction. Things become complicated as evil vampires enter into the scene to take a magical sword that Andras has and threaten to destroy the village. The story held my interest and the m/m romance was awesome. I'll be reading more of her books.

Liked it, didn't love it. My first M/M paranormal book, was hoping for hot and steamy and got luke warm and moist. lol

The story was "ok". Would have liked more of an explanation about the "sin eaters", where they came from etc.

Was a short read as well. Only took me a few hours to read.
Was left w/ more questions and a kinda "ehhhh whatever" feeling.

I absolutely loved this story. My fave character was Carys. She's my kind of chick. This read had another great take on vamps and a fresh world to play in. Loved it!

Not a bad story at all. It’s my first of this author and I was pretty impressed by it. Of course, I love paranormal stories, so that helps a lot. It’s a dark story, set in darker times, and it is quite the page turner. You are curious as to know what is going to happen next to whom and if some are going to give in to the darker desires that they want to. Or if they will remain some semblance of the humanity they have.
Owen became the social pariah of the village when he lost his father. No one wants to associate with a sin eater. Someone that associates with death and souls and the redeeming of sins. Seeing as he is saving their loved ones, you’d think they wouldn’t treat him that way, but they do. All but two. The lovely Carys, and her adopted father, Andras. Andras captivates Owen in a way that no one ever has, but he doesn’t feel worthy of the man. But an incident happens one evening and Owen notices that Andras isn’t what he thought. He has his suspicions confirmed a few nights later when he is attacked by something in the dark and Andras comes to his aid. The secrets then begin pouring out and although Owen is shocked, it doesn’t take away from the fact that Owen still wants Andras with all he his. But now other paranormals are after them, for the sword Andras carries and for the power both of them have. And revenge. And it’s going to take everything both of them have in order to survive what is put upon them. If they can.
I hate when people are so bigoted about people that are different. In those days, it was even worse than it is now. Not that now is a whole lot better in some ways, but back then, it really was a lot worse in ways. And Owen didn’t deserve what he was treated like. He was simply doing his job in providing the departed a safe journey into the afterlife or whatever. And they treated him like dirt because he was different. But thankfully, he had Andras in his corner. And it was a dang good thing. Andras saved his bacon on more than one occasion and because of Andras, Owen was learning more about himself and his life. And the life of things around him. Didn’t mean life was easy. But because of it, Owen was better equipped. He was able to fight off things that tried to hold him captive and able to save himself from things. Even Andras at one point. It’s a hard road they are enduring, because there are still things that are haunting them. But Owen learned he’s not alone anymore in it and learned that with a little help, love and support, he’s able to get through life a lot better now.
It’s a good paranormal. I’m glad I got to read it. It was a good setting, good characters, even the bad ones, and a good plot.

Wow...this was beautifully written.

Ah...the sad, lonely life of a sin eater. With Owen, we get a very sympathetic character: he lives alone in a rundown shack, with a few goats and his fiddle. Of the village, there are only three people who treat him like a human - Andras (the town doctor), his ward, Carys (a young woman), and Andra's blacksmith. The rest of the people in town only want and need him when a loved one dies, as he is a pariah...
This young, gorgeous pariah (who has a secret crush) ends up becoming a pawn between two powerful vampires - one good, one evil. All of these guys are hot, of course. lol I won't say anything more, as I don't want to ruin the read for those who are interested.

With that - even though I loved the story, there were a few odd things within it that just didn't fit/work:
* This story takes place in an 1850's Welsh countryside, so what was up with the zombies and hoodoo?
* Referring to one vampire as 'the most powerful vampire in the universe' was a bit of a stretch. He wasn't that ancient, and from what happened to him earlier in the story, he wasn't that much of a Billy bad ass either.
* The sword. It wasn't explained how the sword of a Welsh prince from the 1400's could wield so much power. Was the prince a magician? Was the sword blessed by God? Not a clue.

Still...I loved this story, and I hope there is more to come. What I find odd is that of the few m/m romance/erotica books that I've read, they are better than many of the m/f reads. They are more expressive emotionally and sexually, actually. Not crappy. In this particular book, the sex - which is steamy as hell - doesn't take over the story. Maybe I just lucked out with the m/m books I've chosen.
4.5 stars!

This is a new author to me & I found this historical MM vampire/sin eater romance an absolutely fabulous read. The plot is quite unusual yet highly intriguing & flows smoothly with good scene descriptions & world building. There is good chemistry between the two main characters (Owen & Andras) & the secondary characters offer good support.
The story is set in the 1800’s covers a young lonely male “Sin Eater” (Owen) who is continuously used & then ignored by the community but there is one man who happen to be a vampire (a physician, Andras) who is highly attracted to Owen naturally there has to be a evil villain (another vampire & enemy, Dagan)
There is: friendship, various kinds of shifters, humans, vampires, witches, a mythological sword, twists & turns, intrigue, suspense, action, secrets, mystery, prejudices, self-esteem issues, attractions, danger, threats, enemies, vengeful feelings, violence, conflict, manipulations, devious plans, spells, magic, compromises, steamy scenes & a satisfying conclusion.

I lost myself in this story and could not put it down once I started it.
1842 Wales, one of my favorite settings, for this wonderful dark and gritty m/m vampire paranormal romance. There was a lot of folklore and history of the place and time, I love stories with enough background, it gives it so much more realism and makes the story that much more enjoyable to read. This is wonderfully written and the two main characters, Owen and Andras, have off the charts chemistry. Two passionate, powerful and conflicted characters, who both have a devoted heart and a sense of honor. Both are trying to protect the villagers who are mostly driven by superstition and fear. The writing is magical, descriptive and flows well, easy to feel like a part of the story. A stand alone story but looking forward to a hopeful sequel as Owen learns and matures into his powers. Because there are more than just vampires out there.

The Sin Eater’s Prince is a beautifully written tale of romance and fantasy. It’s a heartfelt love story set amongst the age-old battle of good versus evil. This book tells the story of the fledgling romance between a vampire and a sin eater. Andras, the vampire, fights his nature daily so that he may safeguard the wellbeing of the town’s citizens as their only doctor. Owen, the sin eater, fully embraces his nature in order to redeem the souls of the citizens, and is shunned and ostracized by them for his efforts. Andras sees beyond the sin eater’s vilified vocation to the man beneath and the pure soul inside. Together, they fight against an ancient evil and try to build a life together amidst the chaos. I was immediately drawn in by the robust world and captivating characters created by the author. The plot is well thought out and intriguing. I hope this is the beginning of a series because I very much look forward to reading more.

A fight for a magical sword threatens to tear two lovers apart

Owen a sin eater is accused of killing a group of young woman. The doctor in the town knows the truth vampires are terrorizing the town's folk trying to draw him out, as he holds the key to their quest for domination a magical sword that allows vampires to go out in daylight. Can he save his friend and lover before it is too late or must tell the people the truth and risk what is left of his soul.
If you like gay romance, vampires, action, magic and a bit of drama then this book is for you it is masterfully written. The characters are believable, well rounded individuals; the sex, is woven into the story so it doesn't overpower the flow of the plot; and the fight scene, is dramatic and action packed. I enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it to readers who like, dramatic romances, vampires, or an all around good read that will satisfy your book blood thirst.

Wow!

Just wow.
First, let me say, I am not a fan of historical romances, but Sin Eater may have just changed my mind.
With a mix of Paranormal and historical, Ms. Diablo has created a world to get lost in. The side characters abound but only add to this wonderful tale.
Owen, a Sin Eater, has basically been shunned his whole life, until he meets his mysterious prince. The live story between the MCs sizzle the pages and warm your heart.
The angst is low between MCs but there’s a definite bad guy and crew who create havoc. In many places in this story I was on the edge of my seat. The story is complete with an HEA that truly satisfies!
I highly recommend this story for any MM Romance lover!

A must read! Again and Again to relish the story...

I just finished The Sun Eater’s Prince and I HAVE to read it again because the book was that good! This book took me away and distracted me while my husband was driving through a major rain storm in Texas. Now I want to relax and read from beginning to end with a nice glass of wine. This is a story about vampires and the superstitions and habits that village folk held back in time. This was a love story filled with magic and yearning that was ultimately fulfilled. I am hoping that there are plans for a second book that continues the love saga because count me in! I hIghly recommend this book!

The Sin Eater's Prince is a fast-paced, edge-of-your seat paranormal romance that will keep you turning pages. The book is set in Wales during the 1800's. Filled with folklore, this book wows in its ability to draw the reader into its world.
The romance is hot, perfect for those who love a little extra spice. Owen and Andras make a wonderful couple, and I love how the book explores their personalities as well as their sexuality. Each character is compelling, and the secondary characters are interesting as well.
I can only hope that the author will consider writing more.

In the beginning, I wasn't sure if I would like the book, but by the end of the second chapter, I was hooked and stayed up until 1:30 AM to finish it! I've read many vampire books and paranormal, and I haven't read one with a Sin-Eater.

I know this didn't get very many good reviews, but for me, it was excellent! Take a chance and read the book. It's also the first book I read by this author.

Keta Diablo's latest release The Sin Eater's Prince is a truly mesmerizing story and for this reader it was something a little new. This is Owen's story and he is a Sin Eater has his father before him, curse and held into a life he did not choose. The towns folk look upon his as a plague as they know the site of him carried death. Thing is, Own is just a man in his mid twenties who has his own desires and his number one desire is for Dr. Andras Maddock. A vampire who he can not help but be attracted to, more than that, Andras pulls every carnal craving out of him. Andras feels the same for Owen and when they touch they are not Sin Eater and Vampire but two people who share an intense attraction towards one another. Immediately I adored both Andras and Owen, both feeling as though they are stuck with duty for the life Oaths they have taken. Owen having taken the oath to his father to become a Sin Eater and carry their legacy and Andras's oath to Owen's father for saving him in the Forrest all those years ago when left for dead..... to never take the blood of a human and to watch and care for Owen upon his death.Dagan is after Andras who holds a very important and deadly item in which he covets with his very life. Dagon is after the Prince of Wales sword which Andras posses, once they capture the sword their power will increase beyond imagination. The same sword that Andras killed his creator, Traherne with. The sword would hold the power to grant these vampires to walk in the daylight. Danger is all around them in this amazingly brilliant mystical tale. Not without humor, not sure if Keta created the character Carys for that purpose but I found so much humor in her personality. She is an orphan who was taken in by Andras upon the death of her parents, and she is a superstitions little thing. Her beauty unchallenged I delighted every time her presents came to the page. The banter although harmless and light between Owen teasing her and telling her of all the creatures he has spied and her gullibility put a smile to my face and lighten the dark story. She is a believer all things mystical and I just found her dialog appealing. What began as lustful longing blossomed into something quite beautiful as the relationship and love between Owen and Andras grew through every page. Owen asking Andras to turn him so he would be able to fight and protect him by his side against Dagan and his followers was heartwarming. What I liked most about this story was that the underlying love story was just that, love. And thank goodness Keta added a glossary at the end, I would have been a little lost if not! I wish more authors would do that!
