Julie Hodgson’s novel ‘Third Born, The Third Born Of Evora, Book 1’ is an incredible story from the award-winning author who has been giving us amazing tales since years. This wonderful book depicts a journey of a young girl as she attempts and then succeeds to break free from the old-world norms. It talks about the township of Evora where a young woman’s firstborn is married into a rich family, the second girl child is given to the church and the third one has to visit The evil Doll Maker. For most of her young life, Beatriz has lived as per the norms and notions of the society. However, when it is her time to visit The malicious Doll Maker as a third born of the family, she wants to question and find out who made such awful rules? She tries to find ways to escape her fate and is up on a brave journey which would take her to the streets of Evora, to the heart of the Church, and in those dark, unknown alleys of the city, a side which she didn’t even know exist. Accompanied by an army of young girls who see Beatriz as their hero, the fearless girl is out to conquer the world for the things that matter to her.
Beatriz's narrative voice is brilliant. She is serious at times, but also very witty, which makes for an engaging read. Reading the book feels absolutely real as though I'm reading someone's personal journal or a diary. While reading it at times I even forgot that I was reading a story and not a real-life account. Her emotions and the dialogue are perfectly bang-on for a young girl in her situation and genuine too.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who believes in bravery, an adventure, a bit of mystery and a bit of magic.

Great short book to read on a nice afternoon. It helps if you're currently living in Évora, the city where Beatriz's story takes place. Only, in Beatriz's world, Évora is a supernatural haven and if you're a third-born girl... you're out of luck. Not to mention the boys fighting a mysterious war somewhere on the planet! Undoubtedly recommend this book!

A most excellent first saga book, Love fantasy and Dystopian books. It's short, but a good read. As it says its the teaser for the series.
Very good indeed.
