For a man of his position and inclination (a writer and former editor of Simon & Schuster, son and nephew of directors, producers and movie stalwarts), Korda writes very blandly. Like his subject matter, it is delivered with precision. But nary an apocryphal story (or if there were, I missed them), and hardly any snippets of witty repartees. And apart from a short paragraph about Malcolm Forbes's eclectic collections, which is one of the highlights, not that it's particularly illuminating--of this book, I felt this to be a very impersonal piece, devoid of passion and wit. When this was supposed to be a book written by a man whose intention was to share his knowledge and passion for watch collecting with the reading public.
Curiously, Korda, a former editor at Simon & Schuster, published this book under Barnes & Noble.
Somewhat dry, Mr. Korda is passionate about watch collecting, however his delivery in this book manages to mask this. Maybe an anecdote or two about his search for a particular watch would liven up his presentation. All in all, he seems a bit repetitive and struggling to fill the pages. More pictures would have helped, too.
