This book just didn't do it for me. I bought it so I thought I'd give it a chance. I didn't like it. It dragged for me and I kept thinking of like it so kept going back for more. Nope.
"She was temptation made flesh, and I was the lucky asshole who had to sleep down the hall from her.
I have to say, I was really not expecting this story. Based on the summary, I was expecting some "You stole my girlfriend" 'Bro drama'. A little "I can't betray my ex by sleeping with his best friend" angst. Lots of of forbidden sexy times, then an HEA.
This book delivered SO MUCH MORE! I have never read this author before and found her from an Amazon recommendation. She looks relatively new with only a few books out, but I would like to see where her books go from here. I really liked this one!
Our three main characters: Emma Burk is a struggling Romance writer in NYC living as a roommate to quasi-celebrity entrepreneur Micheal Hart. Michael Hart has been "Best Friends" with George Stemsen since they were 17/18 and have had a very complex relationship. Georgie boy just so happens to also be Emma's Ex-boyfriend.
Now, This is not love triangle, so don't punch out of this book because you hate those like I do. (I HATE love triangles! Brings back my PTSD from all the "Twilight" arguments I had as a teen. Team Edward? Team Jacob? HOW ABOUT TEAM NO STUPID CHICKS WHO CAN'T MAKE UP THEIR MIND!)
ANYHOO! On with the story... So our characters have known each other since college, where Emma first meets Michael, then George. From there Emma and George become a perfect little couple for the next few years to come. Unbeknownst to Emma, Our Michael, was itching to make a run at her before George ever came in the picture. Therefore, he has been crushing on his best friends girl since the very beginning. AND - spoiler alert - Emma feels the same about Michael. So here we are a few years later, Emma has been broken up with George for about 6 months because he cheated and was being just an all around douche canoe. She is still living with Michael and they are finding it hard to tame their unrelenting desire for one another. *As a side note - MICHAEL I know we say this about all book boyfriends, but seriously! If any REAL man has the same characteristics as this man please point him in my direction!! I mean COME ON - He is probably the most perfect specimen of book boyfriend I have ever read about. JUST.... swoon...
The way the story unfolds from here was really interesting. There were twists I didn't see coming, unexpected plot turns, really likable characters. It was just a refreshing surprise!
Only a couple things I had a little trouble with: The whole Date Me app and instant messenger thing felt a little unnecessary. I think everything they learned about each other could have been accomplished by simply doing roommate activities and then we could have seen and felt a little more of the connection between the two of them. I think maybe just because of were the story started in the timeline of their relationship with each other, we missed some of the emotional connection.
Other than that though I think this was a really great introduction to a new author for me and I am really looking forward to trying more of her stuff! :)
This book was packed with a little bit of everything! Such a good read with a great storyline. This is the first book I've read from this author but it won't be the last! This book was super HOT!
I wanted to like Ex's Best Friend a lot more than I actually did. In it, you will read about a forbidden romance.. and you might get some abuse as well. The two MC's Michael and Emma obviously had chemistry with one another. I did, however, think it was weird that she was living with her ex's best friend - even if they weren't all on talking terms.
Speaking of her ex - god he was such a psycho. I hated him instantly and how he treated her was just frustrating. Then there's "forbidden" relationship between Michael and Emma. I don't really see one of your friends dating your ex being forbidden but maybe that's just me?
Overall, it was a super quick read and I liked the smut.
George is a real jerk. Michael seems like he has a real backbone, sexy, hard working, had some help in his past after a hard break, but he is willing to work for whatever he wants to make it to where he wants to get, can be a jerk, but has a reason to be a jerk, if need be and he is protecting a friend or loved one ... George is just a rich a-hole of a jerk. does that make any sense? i think so!! lol!! Emma and Michael ... not sure how the chemistry got brush under the carpet ... she doesn't seem to have anything in common with George ... it is funny now that happens in real life 2? i mean opposite attract but not really sometimes. i am drawing a blank on Emma's best friends' name ... but I love her ... so funny and works with Michael ... gosh i hope i have the right lady?? i think so??! nuts! I have never heard of Aubrey Wright and i have 2 other reads i am checking out now ... she rocks!! glad to have found her books ... such a great writing style!! love the cover ... makes me laugh ... in a good way of course!! must read ... check this book out!! ( ;
First I just want to say I am not a fan of the book cover. I'm just so done with these kinds of book covers. I think it takes away from the actual story. Gotta tell you, I almost passed on this because of the cover. Anyway, other than that, I really enjoyed the book. However, I felt like I've read it before. Even down to the dating app they used. I thought I was going crazy. I quadruple checked that I hadn't read this before but I don't know. Maybe it wasn't as original but stillllll. I enjoyed it
A fun story full of twists and turns that had me all misty-eyed by the end. Michael is hot, hot, hot and I loved the chapters from his pov. Great read!
DNF @ 17% and I can't tell you I am surprised by that. The story is extremely predictable. The characters are all one note and not interesting in the least bit. The 'forbidden' aspect last for like 2 chapters before they jump into bed but I guess they had been living together for 6 months by that point so...anyways. I don't have the energy to write more because this book is so vanilla to me.
Let me start by saying that I really wanted to love this book. I love that sort of forbidden romance that is offered up in this book. I'm even a big fan of the suspense that comes along in this book. However, I'm not a huge fan of all the plot holes, and the random flashbacks that don't come until much later in the book. I left this book with more questions than answers at the end of the story. Everything wrapped up extremely quickly at the end.
A good rom-com story, all the characters are interesting and the ending is just as expected. I love HEA stories period. Its fate because even though Michael and Emma try to suppress and deny what they felt for each other the attraction and strong chemistry still overcome everything. I LOL with Suzie's corky and hilarious way of seeing and things, i felt upset though eventually understood why George became obsessed and vindictive, too bad he ended up that way. Job well done Aubrey!
Michael and Emma are room mates, but it's more complicated then that. Not only walking in on her during her alone time but also that she's his best friends ex even though they all met at the same time. Not including their hiding feelings for one another either...
But walking in on her sets things in motion to bring them closer, but both are scared and both are fighting the emotional side of it. So much that the jealous unstable ex can have his way.... unless...
I liked this story, but was super frustrated on how these two really went against their friendship and what they know of each other. The story would have been better with less of them pushing each other away. They needed to trust each other's friendship and return their when ever they felt off.
George I hope got the book thrown at him- I would have loved to know further why he was so unstable. He clearly played the long game.
Lastly I wanted to know more about their families, it doesn't say where they were presently. Also Suzie- her story I would have loved to have know more about.
The epilogue was sweet and my favorite part although the dating app and the steamy and sweet moments were enjoyable too.
3.5 stars for Ex’s Best Friend by Aubrey Wright. This was a good book. It made me laugh, shed a few tears and quiver in suspense. Emma, Michael, and George have been friends since college. Emma moved in with Michael because her boyfriend George was not ready at the time to take the step for her to move in with him. Little does Emma know that George is actually cheating on her. The couple soon break up and Emma is still living with Michael. Emma has had a crush on Michael since she first meets him, he also has had one of her two. This is making it difficult for them to resist each other. The fact that they can’t seem to resist each other makes for an interesting story. Oh, did I mention Michael and George are millionaires and famous. This makes everything that much more intense, with reports following them and creating stories. Then what happens when George decides he wants Emma back. This book has everything I love in a great book. It has laughs, drama and even suspense. It is a great book and you won’t be disappointed reading.
Emma is a writer and works as a waitress to support herself while writing her second book. She lives with her ex boyfriend's best friend Michael. She has had feelings for Michael since they were all in college together. When she broke up with George she thought he'd ask her to move out but he never did so she stayed. Michael has wanted Emma since he first saw her all those years ago but once George got in the way he knew it wasn't meant to be. However now that he knows that she feels the same he isn't going to let his chance slip away. When George starts showing up causing problems between them will Michael back away from Emma? Will George be a problem easily dealt with or an unstoppable threat?
This is a great story once I started it I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between them is off the charts hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.
Let me preface this by saying I did like this more that Damaged by the same author that being said, the two books have entirely too many similarities. Michael and Emma's relationship starts the same as Liv and Cole's with a private moment being seen, a name passing lips that shouldn't and it dominos from there to:
*****************SPOILERS*******************
a psycho ex, a locket important to the h, being tied to a chair, a ring forgone for a locket and ending with them married and expecting. Seriously just because the main plot is different doesn't make these essentially the same damn book. I can honestly say this is the last book I'll ever read by Wright apparently she lacks creativity to make different stories but aside from that I'm not a fan of books that are sex, sex, sex. When the two main characters cannot share a scene without screwing it's just book porn.
Wright is an author I choose when I want something light and hot. While there ya action in most every book and a sense of danger, that part never really overshadows the emotional upheaval the main characters deal with for each other. This book is no different, though it finds firmer ground than some of the others. I truly enjoyed watching the highs and lows hit these two, and the revelations and heart and truth that came their way. Plus, she’s a writer - can’t go wrong with that!!
Pros: - Sweet. - HEA - no taboos, just an inner sense of right and wrong. - Great ending!
Cons: - A few flash back scenes could have been avoided and shown via dialogue. - George’s obsession, or possible drug addiction, is never fully explained. - The idea that the agent dropped her makes no sense. All press is good press, name recognition- find a new agent. Or do what she did.
ONE CAPTIVATING DELIGHT!!! Aubrey pulls out all the stops on this page turning bombshell. You have all the action, steady paced, suspense as well as fear and loss. She brings her gifts in full display as she lays out a strong storyline that will captivate from the start. The chemistry and undeniable connection between the two main characters is intense and palpable. The characters and scenes were intriguing, complex and realistic. With such vividly detailed and descriptive scenes that it gives the illusion you were right there in the middle of ground zero with them. Twists and turns abound with nerve racking and nailbitng results that brings this little jewel roaring to life beautifully. Fantastic job Aubrey, thanks so much for sharing this little gem with us.
Emma is a writer and works in a restaurant to help support herself. She broke up with her boyfriend George after she found out he was cheating on her. She is living in his best friends apartment as a lodger. Emma has feelings for Michael but what she doesn’t know is that he feels the same way. They both join a dating agency without the other knowing and are matched up. They start to talk to each other on the internet and realise they have a lot in common. The only problem is George who is causing problems for everyone. Things get complicated and Emma moves in with her best friend. The trouble then escalates. I’m not going to spoil the rest only to say I received this ARC for an honest review which I have given. You will not be disappointed with this book.
I like it when romance has some good vocab thrown in... keeps it interesting. And the love and connection between Emma and Michael is excellent, but this story took some rather unexpected twists and turns I wasn’t necessarily looking for. I get that you don’t want to give too much away because the suspense and surprise is important, but this read a lot more like a drama than a romance. The author really knows emotions, and that’s worth noting. I felt along with everyone, from Emma to Suzie to George. But not really my cuppa. That said, i’ll probably pick up another one of Ms. Wright’s books because the writing was above the expected.
I'm giving this a 2 only because I was able to finish this. When I orginally picked this up, there were so many 5 stars I thought I would give it a try but I honestly didn't enjoy it. The synopsis got me hooked but once I started reading it, I felt like there were somethings missing. For example the ex boyfriend what happened after? Some things just didn't make sense. I think the middle should of been the beginning and vice versa to make it flow better. The book could of ended much sooner as well and dragged on until the last 4 chapters where FINALLY it got better.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. This was my first book by this author and I will definitely be reading more from her. Emma and Michael are roommates but both are very attracted to the other. Only Emma has always had a boyfriend which happens to be Michael's best friend. Now that Emma is single she can't help but finally fantasize about Michael. And by the looks he's giving her maybe he feels the same way. I enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it to you. It had a great HEA ending.
This is a very good friends to lovers romance. The storyline is well-crafted with plenty of chemistry between the two main characters. After a breakup, the H, the h`s ex-boyfriend`s best friend continue to remain roommates. While the attraction was always simmering between these two, neither acted upon it. Once the breakup occurs, all bets are off, but the ex is determined to squash this relationship, will he succeed in sabotaging them? I liked it. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.
Emma is a waitress and an author who has writers block and trouble writing her second book. She breaks up with her boyfriend George and moves in with her ex-boyfriends friend who also is her friend from college Michael. They have both liked each other since they've met but it didn't work out for them. Now that Emma is single and Michael has his chance will he take it? Or will it just be friends with benefits? Will they admit their feelings? And what will George do once he finds out they're together? Lots of things happening and it gets juicy more ways than one.
Fun read. The intro is lmbo and awkward at the same time.
The chemistry between Emma and Mike is great And the build up is great... but you don't have to wait too long to get to the hotness. I like how the drama doesn't last too long either. They never make it more than a week apart. Great pacing throughout. Never needed the book to move faster.
This book could of had more depth and to make it 5 stars, but still it's a fun read. The party I liked least is the cover, which is why it took me a while to read the book... silly I know.
I typically love the scandal involved with best friends and throwing in an ex makes it even better. Emma met Michael first, but George swooped in and that was all she wrote. Until it wasn't. Now George is her ex and she's living in Michael's home as his roommate. Awkward much? Thia story had tons of awkward moments, but once they got their stuff halfway figured out it was great. Enter the jealous ex and the halfway figured out stuff went to hell. Read this book! Find out what happens!
Ex's Best Friend by Aubrey Wright is the love story between Emma and Michael, the best friend of her recent ex boyfriend. It's a fun and sexy journey from trying to deny their attraction to finding out what could be. I liked the characters and their story, definitely a satisfying read.
I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.
