Claudia Cabriati is going back. Back to Araneya. A place where special relationships were nurtured, where chilling nightmares were born, a place that harbours a shocking secret. A place of which she has no memory. Not trusting corrupt politician and owner of Araneya, Senator Carlo Macey, or his twisted version of what happened to her as a child, Claudia decides to return to Araneya, in the slim hope that it will restore her lost memories. What really took place at Araneya all those years ago? Who was responsible for Benjamin Lucas’ death, the young boy shot in the neighbouring forest? And why had Ricky Taccone, one of Macey’s gun clan, taken his own life? As Claudia battles for answers, she begins questioning her relationship with the man helping her, the very resourceful and attractive Saul Reardon, a man who bears a troubled past of his own. With the sudden appearance of a new group of hostile players on their heels and Macey about to be released from custody, time becomes paramount. Will Claudia finally remember? More importantly… Will she want to?
Neven Carr lives in what she terms is an author's haven; a quaint fishing village on the east coast of Queensland, Australia. Her former years as a Primary School teacher provided her with many life experiences, some treasured, some not so treasured, but ones she continually draws upon when writing her novels. Neven Carr now devotes her time to her three passions, her family, reading and of course, writing. Forgotten is her debut novel.
The reader should definitely read the first book in this series ..... FORGOTTEN ... before reading this one.
Claudia Cabriati is going back to where everything began .... even though she doesn't remember anything before she was 8 years old. What happened at Araneya all those years ago? Who can she trust to tell her the truth ... will she ever remember?
As Claudia battles for answers, she begins questioning her relationship with the man helping her, the very resourceful and attractive Saul Reardon, a man who bears a troubled past of his own.
Will Claudia finally remember?
Will she want to?
This is a well-written mystery with plenty of palpable tension. From the very first page, I was riveted to the story. There are surprising twists and turns that will keep any mystery buff trying to find 'whodunnit'.
Many thanks to the author for the digital copy of this page-turning mystery. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
This is the second book in the Araneya Mystery Series and you definitely need to read the first book in the series first. Claudia's story continues and her memory is still missing. We learn more about Saul in this book. The book is full of blood, gore, etc and not what I usually like to read but I found this book to be gripping. A real page turner. Well written with engaging characters and a gripping story. I read a copy from the author and voluntarily chose to review.
I have just now finished the best second part of any series I have read in years. The edginess of the topic, characters and events draws you into a world so dark and touching. A moth to a light is how I felt all the way through. I had to get closer and closer. I couldn’t put this book down or out of my head. If there is a third, forth, fifth or what ever in this series I know I must read. Please read book one before book two. I want book three now!
Not Forgiven follows Forgotten but fleshes out the characters histories. Not Forgiven tells us more about the events that traumatized Claudia as a child and those that made Saul who he is today. Claudia’s family tries to protect her from childhood memories that haunt her later in life. However, the past is stirred up by mysterious deaths around her. As Saul helps her, we get glimpses of his and Ethan’s past as well. The plot kept moving as the characters grew stronger and more human. I hope Book 3 is in the works!
Not Forgiven, the riveting sequel to Forgotten, follows Claudia Cabriati's efforts to discover what lies behind the traumatic break in her memories and uncover the truth.
With the enigmatic Saul at her side, Claudia is chasing down the last of the loose ends that came out of the case they just solved—and all of them are leading back to Araneya mansion where Claudia spent her childhood. However, neither of them in their darkest moments imagined the picture that those threads might form...
Neven Carr's thrilling follow-up novel in the Araneya Mystery series brings back the all-star cast from Forgotten and follows the inevitable tightening of the bond between Claudia and Saul. Showcasing one of the author's trademark twisty plots, Not Forgiven explores the psychology and impact of institutionalized violence, PTSD, and human perception, staged in the dramatic scenery of Australia and leading to the grand reveal of several cold-case murders, as well as shedding a bit more light on Saul’s murky past. The pacing manages to combine suspense with explosive action to create an environment for the reader that few other books I’ve read can equal. I'd recommend this book to readers of mystery, action, or romance—this book combines all of them and does it well.
A wonderful read. I'm not really into blood, gore and mindless violence - this has plenty - but this read kept me riveted. A plot about killers, narcissism, schemes for power, affects of war, trauma and above all else love. With characters that gripe you both with their mania and normality whilst at the same time into a world that is a cross between the Godfather and Face Off. A terrific read. Her memory is still fragmented and as they work their way to the house of her dreams and nightmares they uncover a world of horror. Led and directed by one man - Uncle Carlo. What damage has he done to the children with his plots and schemes? Will he survive prison? Who is his minion? Who is the strange Englishman who appears like a shadow only to disappear like smoke? Will she ever recover the memories of the last time she hid in 'her special place'?
Claudia Cabriati cannot remember anything before the age of seven. She has nightmares and flashbacks. She decides going back to Araneya will jog her memory. If she remembers, will she be sorry? Will she be better off if she doesn't remember? And what about the other little girl, Lily? Will Saul ever get over his pain? Will Claudia and Saul be able to have a life together? Well thought out plot and well written. The story flows. Characters are fleshed out. Interesting, exciting, action, mystery and a thriller! I received a copy of this book and I'm voluntarily posting a review. My opinion is entirely my own?
After finishing the first book in the Araneya Mystery series by Neven Carr, I immediately purchased the sequel, Not Forgiven. Many of the unresolved issues from the first installment were answered and, yet, there were many surprises.
Perhaps because I read them back to back is why I was annoyed by the author’s repeating verbatim several pages of the first book. In spite of this minor annoyance, I enjoyed the story, the characters, the red herrings, and the many plot twists. For these reasons, I recommend Not Forgiven.
A cleverly constructed and gripping tale, but there is too much evil for my taste. The descriptions of the characters and their realistic relationships are the strength of the series. I loved Book 1 and immediately bought Book 2. Unfortunately I don't have the stomach to proceed to Book 3. I wish the characters well and I may change my mind in the future. They do get under your skin in a big way.
Not Forgiven a great sequel to Forgotten; be sure to read these books in sequence to make complete sense of what is going on. Although twists and turns sometimes make that a challenge, but keeps the mystery going. Claudia is still the center of death. Can Saul help her remember the seven lost years. “Revenge is best served cold.” Whose revenge and what for?
Claudia is becoming besotted with Saul. Both used to directing their own lives spark disagreements and misplaced independence. Claudia mysteriously has no memory of her young childhood and Saul is determined to help her find out what happened then. The body count is rising, and Saul is not done! Lots of action and sub-stories to follow.
This book digs much deeper into the background of Saul, painting him in a different light than the first book. For Claudia, we finally learn what really happened in her childhood. If anything, this book is better than the first one.
This novel was fast paced and kept me absorbed from the beginning to the end. The author wove a fascinating story involving mystery , excitement, love and insight into the minds of the main characters. The ending was a surprise!
I don't normally write reviews but I had to for both books. Literally could not put this book down. Kept me captivated from the first page. Would highly recommend this author and look forward to her next book.
