Beth pushes beyond her comfort zone to prove a sociology thesis. She turns a chance meeting with a known player into a personal experiment on first impressions. Weaving herself into casual meetings with the guy reinforces her assumptions… until she’s no longer the one pursuing him.
Jeremy’s only serious relationship is with his studies as he competes for the coveted post-grad theoretical chem spot with Dr. Young. When the campus goes into lock down and everyone is evacuated to the stadium, his habit of “fun only” friendships turns into a curse.
Can he trust a skittish girl he’s known for ten days to help him find his not-so-theoretical chem project or will her assumptions about him keep her at arm’s length?
Final Year – a fast-paced new adult romantic suspense that keeps you guessing at every turn.
Growing up in Ontario, Canada, MJ was the only child of a single mom. MJ’s passion for the arts ignited at a young age as she wrote adventure stories and read them aloud to close family and friends. The dramatic arts became a focus in high school as an aid to understanding character motivation in her writing. Majoring in Theatre Production at University, with a minor in English, she went on to teach both elementary and high school for 10 years throughout Simcoe County.
MJ currently lives with her husband and son in Ontario, Canada. She keeps busy these days writing, helping Indie Authors, and talking about books as a local librarian. She firmly believes that if she hadn’t been born a Virgo, she would not be half as organized as necessary to accomplish everything in her daily agenda.
More than a love story, this is a captivating, intelligent read from the first to the last chapter. The reader is drawn into an emergency situation immediately. The suspense builds, urging you into the next chapter, and the next. And while the protagonists, with their foibles and flaws, work to solve a pending crisis before it's too late, their relationship faces as many twists and turns as the plot. An enjoyable, face-paced read by a talented author.
New adult is not usually the genre I read, but MJ Moores’ Final Year had me hooked from the beginning. The novella follows Beth, a young sociology student, who feels she is largely invisible to the rest of the world. While researching her thesis, she meets the enigmatic, Jeremy, a guy who ignores her at their first encounter. But first impressions aren’t always accurate and Jeremy has a secret that Beth soon discovers. While the two work as friends, they become entangled in bizarre events that come out of a dangerous experiment Jeremy is working on. They are in a race against time… a race that almost costs them their lives, but draws them together in love. The setting, on a college campus, is well laid out and almost becomes a character in itself. Beth is mild mannered woman who shows strength and independence, while Jeremy is a determined individual. Lots of action and conflicts makes this novella an enjoyable read. In such a short space of time, I found the characters kept me interested and the plot twists kept me turning pages. Loved the ending but then, I’m a sucker for 'Happy For Now' endings.
Not one to normally read young adult or romance novels I found myself pleasantly swept up in the awkward romance of Beth and Jeremy, two campus oddballs. But that wasn’t enough as the story quickly shifted into a suspenseful race against the clock when their University campus is suddenly placed in lockdown. An enjoyable and easy read by author M. J. Moores.
I’m a sucker for a good romance. If sparks are flying, I’m hooked. In Final Year, Beth and Jeremy are about to finish their university careers. She’s looking for a chance to prove her sociology thesis correct when she meets Jeremy, a hot playboy. He’s focused on his studies in the hopes that he will win the coveted post-grad theoretical chem spot. But when campus is evacuated for a bomb threat, Beth and Jeremy will have to rely on each other. In the heat of the moment, readers are swept away along with Beth and Jeremy for a seductively witty read. Throw in a lot of suspense and titillating banter and you’ve got MJ Moores’ new standalone novella, Final Year. I loved that Jeremy, Beth’s love interest is not just your average “tall, dark and handsome” guy. For me, a good romance needs to have the right (read: interesting) male lead and in Final Year, MJ delivers! Jeremy is equal parts smart (and a little nerdy) while also mysterious enough that I was hoping he and Beth would find the love connection. The heroine, Beth, is lovable too, because who doesn’t feel invisible to the world sometimes? The plot is fast-paced and from the very first page, I was drawn into the emergency situation. I liked that at the beginning, the reader isn’t sure what has happened, because it created such a sense of suspense and narrative urgency that I couldn’t help but keep turning pages. The relationship between Beth and Jeremy was fun too; even though neither of them are looking for a love connection with the other, it was exciting to see them slowly fall for each other. (Although I have to say, my absolute favourite moment takes place in a very steamy boiler room.) The romantic twists and turns make for an exciting and—dare I say—sexy read. If you’re in the market for a killer romance, Final Year delivers on all accounts. It’s slick, sexy and keeps you guessing in all of the right ways.
In a perfect slow simmer, romance and suspense meld together in M.J Moores’s newest novella, and FINAL YEAR is worth savoring. When sociology student Beth meets the mysterious Jeremy – it’s anything but love at first sight. But first sight, like first impressions can be mistaken as Beth is soon to discover. When the university goes into emergency lock-down, this unlikely pair join forces to solve a major, impending disaster. In this gripping tale, anything can happen - experiments can turn deadly wrong, and an unexpected attraction can turn to passion.
MJ Moores has successfully created two seemingly opposite characters that fit well together. Each tackling completely different school projects, they end up working together. A wonderful blend of romance and suspense, Final Year is filled with intrigue, keeping the reader turning the pages.
