A Call to War

Rate this book
What would you do if someone took everything from you and you had to live with it for eternity?

Things had finally settled down for Liza Moultrie. She'd met her mates, dealt with her past, and moved on from the nightmare that had brought her into the magical world.

Or so she thought.

One phone call is all it takes to turn her world upside down again. Forced to return home--to face her past for the last time--she won't stop until it's over.

This time, she's ready for war.

A Call to War is a Paranormal Menage Romance. Steamy shifters make this book unacceptable for anyone under the age of 18. #whychoose

What an amazing story this was. I read it in one breath and loved every page. I love Liza so much, and I love how the author went about resolving her story. I was wrong when I thought I could not love the author more. Her writing is amazing, and this series is amazing.
There is so much I loved about this book, I don't even know where to start. The way the author puts emphasis on important things in life, and the way she puts forward, through the main character, all kinds of beautiful positive messages of love, tolerance, acceptance, and forgiveness - touched me deeply. The authors lamentations on love, pain, loss, self-image, trauma, revenge, justice, right and wrong - are out of this world amazing and realistic. The characters may not be completely human, but their emotions and experiences are.
Liza is one of my favourite female characters ever. She is strong and unbreakable, but at the same time so vulnerable, unstable, and highly emotional, as any person would be after what she has been through. After the short reprieve during holidays, Lisa is faced with more horrors and traumas, and although she pulls through, it is mostly due to the wonderful support she has from her loved ones.
I love the characters, as they are masterfully imagined and developed. Parker, Kade, Ryan, Jack, Denise, Brett, Jenny, all fabulous and lovable, then several less lovable ones, but I am especially amazed at Jonathan, and how the author managed to make him a monster and a human being at the same time. Absolutely amazing.
And then the hotness and steamy factor is even hotter and steamier than ever before. I did not think that was possible, but oh wow...
Overall, fantastic book, fantastic series, fantastic characters. Can't wait to see what comes next. Books are best read in order. Reading order is A Call To Pride (Unsung Veil Book 1), A Call To Heart (Unsung Veil Companion Novella), and A Call To War (Unsung Veil Book 2).

Liza's story

A Call to War finishes Liza's main story. We left book one after Liza was killed and came back. A Valentine's novella sits between the two books and is a peek into their lives when things are calmer.
This story dives in pretty early and drags out the feels. Liza isn't done with the crappy hand life is dealing her and what follows is full of heartbreak and rage. That's not to say you won't get any hot scenes because you do. There's just much more. The plot itself makes sense and is well written.
The characters remain true to themselves, even as they continue to grow. Especially in Liza's case who has to deal with her new abilities along with some terrible events.
Overall, I would recommend this book. I do suggest you read book one first, or you'll be lost on a lot of the events.

A good ending.

Well, we’ve come to the end of Liza and her arc. It was a fun read, and I’m glad things were wrapped up - for her and her men, at least - with only hints of the stories to come. I liked Liza as a character, and my only issue with her duology (plus novella) is that we never really got to the bottom of her vampire lineage. That is the storyline that I would have loved to have seen more of.

Book two was even better then the first one! Liza is now a vampire and that comes with a whole lot of getting use to but she handles it like a pro! This story was so good. Even after the worse happens, Liza still keeps true to who she is and doesn't let vengeance take over. I am really going to miss her and her boys but I am really looking forward to getting to know Jack and Ryan better. Write on Poppy

So this book dives deeper into the Pride. Liza has some adjustments to make after being recently turned but thankfully that does not put a damper on her unique humor and snark. I also love seeing Parker become more of an alpha than before and the family dynamic of the Pride.
As in war there are casualties and I was so into the story that when death inevitably came I was just as devasted as the characters.
So one thing that is my favorite part of the formatting (I know not story related) but it’s the pictures that start out each chapter. Instead of the author having to put names under the chapter you get their picture. So imagine my surprise to see a wolf! I’ll say no more because I don’t want to spoil it but it had me thinking that there is something more sinister headed for the Pride....maybe. I did receive an arc.
Looking forward to seeing Jenny and her pack again!

Good ending

It was a good way to end the series. I feel like there could have been more explaining on her power or what the outcome would be for it.

Maybe have some backlash from her little slip at the bar?

Idk, I just felt like it was missing something

War surrounds me

Her darkness is invading her light. She thought that was all in the past, but much like an unresolved emotion, unresolved rogue shifters have a way of coming back to bite you in the butt. This time, literally. They should have let her hunt after her transition. The price paid for allowing him to go free was far too heavy. Now she has to go home to make sure he's put down like the rabid animal he is. But his pack isn't completely in agreement. Sickness is awful, but he's blood. And an alpha's son, even if he was banished. Worse, his momma is not accepting any of this. And momma isn't going to just quietly stand by and allow this to happen.

Spoilers ahead.
While I enjoyed this story, it felt like too much was pushed in all together. This could have benefited greatly by breaking it into 2 books, giving Liza a trilogy. Things move so fast, and a lot is glossed over to get to the end. The tragedy and POV give us a little more insight into a diseased mind. But, things are calm until @45% mark then they bullet train to a finale that feels unfinished. We still don't get much more insight into shifter culture. In fact, Liza monologues about it several times. We know absolutely nothing more about vampires. We still don't "meet" her dad. Absolutely nothing is mentioned to him about events, to see if that is where her magical side came from, to meet his sons-in-law, nada. Groundwork is again laid out for Ryan and Jack. Possibly for a Brett and Denise spin off, or flashback side novella. Or a still connected but in the future novella. Possibly both lol. The magical community as a whole is still a mystery. Clearly vampires have no aversions to sunlight, certain foods, mirrors, or anything from the myths, we don't ever learn why. They aren't the undead or living dead, as they can reproduce without transmitting blood. The mystery lady? Remains a mystery. Liza never mentions birth control, outside of joking texts, but also mentions not being ready for kids. And after being warned about how fertile shifters are. The difference in lifespans is never resolved, we get a riddle. Mystery lady say to learn all she can but since there's no vamps to ask (other than her disappearing butt), I'm not sure how she's going to do that. Liza never meets her in laws. The whole omen nightmare thing falls to the wayside. Dillweed's dad doesn't mention why he hasn't taken care of his problem child. Why was he never hunted by the packs he poached young shifters from? A feral alpha's son infecting their packs shouldn't have been ignored. Why wasn't Liza allowed to hunt him? There's a mention, briefly, of turned shifters. If it's genetic then how does that work? There's just so much more that I have a feeling readers are not going to learn. While I enjoyed the stories and characters, these unresolved plot points being abandoned is frustrating. And after reading the blurb for 4, and starting with a whole new emotional issue, I'm not sure I want to continue this series. I may come back, but I'm not ready to invest in new satellite/background characters when Liza's story doesn't feel complete yet.

EPIC conclusion to Liza's story!

I simply couldn't put this book down.
It was just so amazing.
Having Liza's story spelled out for us and resolved was everything I didn't know I needed and more.

At the end of book one, and sort of in the novella, Liza is trying to cope with what has happened to her.
She has learned of her family's history and know she has to deal with eternity.
Literally.
Just when she thought things could settle down and she could spend a happy life with her mates, a phone call turns everything upside down.
She will have to go to war.

GAH!
I wish I could be Liza in real-life.
She is so strong, but isn't afraid to show her vulnerability.

These characters are ones that we can relate to.
Not only the main characters, but the side ones as well.
You feel a connection to them that draws you in.
Even the bad guy, Jonathan.
At times you want to feel sorry for him, but then you remember how much of a monster he is.

Steamy times.
Let me tell you, Poppy sure knows how to get a reader hot and bothered with her intimate scenes.
Felt like a needed a cold shower every single time.

Overall, just absolutely fantastic.
Can't wait to see what is next in the Unsung Veil series.
I know we are done with Liza and her guys, but I'm hoping we will see them more in the future.
Go pick up the series if you haven't yet.
You won't be sorry.
It come very highly recommended.

No spoilers of any kind included.
You know I thought that this book and the companion book was awesome but this book blew them completely out of the water!
When I started this book I wasn’t expecting to be thrown right and left with everything that was happening in it but I was, heck I’m actually out of breath from all the twists and turns and the hidden surprises.
I can actually say this story is a roller coaster ride!
I am now patiently impatiently waiting for the next book in this series because I have to know what happens in Ryan and Jack’s stories now that Liza’s spotlight is over.
So yes I most definitely do recommend this book but if you haven’t read the first book and the companion book then I highly suggest that you do that way you don’t get confused as to what’s happening in the story.

Wow do these books suck me in and just leave me wanting more and more. I love this series with these characters and their story.

A Call to War is such an emotional rollercoaster, there is heartache and torment, lots of action and mystery, plenty of sexy times between Liza and her Mates and so much more that you will want to keep reading right until the very end.

The story is well developed and flows beautifully, the world building is strong and you get a good sense of how things work in the Magical world and I think we will get lots more information as the series progresses.

Whilst I am sad that this was the last book based on Liza, Kade and Parker I am super excited to see more from the other characters Ryan and Jack. I cannot wait to see if they end up with who I think they will or if Poppy will surprise us all and throw us a curve ball.

A Call To War is the third book and the conclusion to Liza's story in this series. The book started out with Liza trying to learn and hone her newfound abilities. She is still looking out if there are still some of her kind out there. A devastating news sent her back to her hometown and eventually settle the threat that was Jonathan.

Since this is just the end of Liza's arc, I'm not sad at all. I feel like this is actually the beginning of her new life and I will see it unfold on the next book although she will not be the focus at all. No matter, I'm excited to read Ryan's story for which I'm sure will be an great one. Not to mention Jack and I'm thinking Jenny might take a part on his story. Now wouldn't that be interesting? I can't wait for the next book!

Poppy did an amazing job again with the 2nd book in Liza's story! This book was full of action and lots of feelings while bringing the story to closure. I couldn't stop reading even though I couldn't do it in one sitting (grr life getting in the way of reading!) The plot pulls you in as you need to know what happens next and how the characters deal with each situation. This book ends Liza's story but the series continues on and I for one cannot wait to see what's in store for the characters we already know and which ones we are to meet in the future. Definately check this series out, highly recommend!

Awesome conclusion to Liza's story!

Liza, still dealing with changing to a magical, now has to deal with so many heartbreaking issues. I loved reading about the way all the characters grew into their new places in the pride. Their evolution was, is, all about love and family. I can't wait to see where Poppy takes them in the next book! Now back to Liza and her mates, holy hot sex bat man!! I Loved to see Liza's new freak flag fly! Thank you Poppy for a great book, as I said I can't wait to see where you take the others in their journey for Love and family.

Oh, Poppy you’re so fine, you’re so fine you blow my mind, hey Poppy! Hey, hey, hey Poppy! Another amazing book is in the bag for you. Liza’s story has finished but wow, what a way to go. Liza has been through hell, changing in ways she did not expect, growing with her mates, and facing down both her past and now her future. I shed many tears, laughed quite a bit, and felt an ache deep in my heart. It is truly a wonderful author who can instill such emotion in their readers. I am looking forward to all that Poppy will write in the future!

This is one of the best, I have read this year. Liza and her pride find action, adventure, heart break, love and so much more. Be ready with your puffs, there are a couple of spots to make you cry. There is plenty of steamy, and you will laugh. This is the last of the three. And it is well written, it flows, very hard to put down. This story will leave you with a smile on your face, and make your heart fill light. This is one for your TBR list. Hope you enjoy as much as I did.

A Call to the War is the second book in the Unsung Veil series, and it was amazing! Absolutely loved this book! Liza gets bad news and has to go home, the last place she wants to be, but this time she has Kade and Parker by her side and the pack to protect her. This book grabs your attention right from the beginning full of action, suspense, love and sacrifice. I highly recommend it and I can’t wait for the next book in the Unsung Veil Series!!

Well the issues I had in book 1 are also in book 2. The pace is off - the whole story stalled again with the h endlessly crying and pushing her mates away. They were ineffective for most of the book, everyone felt like an add on as this is all about the h, and she was boring, and in her head (thoughts) for 80% of the story. For me, there was a lot potential that seemed to be on the cusp of delivering - just not yet.

This may be the end to Liza’s story but the world has definitely been opened more in this book. There was more heartache but in sharing it strengthened her bonds and her to be stronger than what even her men thought she could ever be. There’s definitely still that sexy and humour that came through from the first book, but this was is a slighter rougher read on the heart. Still brilliant and thoroughly reading again though.

Love this series!

I love this series and these characters. Liza is a strong FMC who has overcame a lot and still had much to go through. Kade and Parker are fun and caring mates. This story is captivating and has great characters. Sad that it is the last of Liza’s story but can’t wait to see what the other characters such as Ryan and Jack get up to.

Book 2 is just as amazing as book 1. With Liza now a vampire and everything else going on she still remains true to who she is. I’m so sad the book is over. I was hoping it’d last forever. Such a great book and I’d recommend this to everyone as a must read. I can wait to see what happens with jack and Ryan though!! I need more!!!

Eek!

To be honest. I wasn't entirely sure where this was going to go with feline shifters, wolves, witches, bears, and vampires. However, it is so much more than I ever anticipated! I love this plot, the characters, and just how every thing just works out. Can't wait for more in the Unsung Veil Series!

Liza strikes back!

I absolutely loved this story but I’m a little upset we were left hanging with some unanswered questions about Liza, the mystery woman, and her being a vampire. I’m hoping this gets brought up and resolved in the next characters’ story and am interested to see where it all goes!

A real treat

There is sadness and violence but more so, love and passion, caring and deep compassion. It is the conclusion of a character arc so make sure you read the previous novel first and it’s small companion novella brings more depth to the characters. *Reverse haram *sexual violence is discussed.

A call to war.

This was everything I could have hoped for in an ending of Liza, Cade and Parker’s story. It was heartbreaking in so many ways and Liza’s life has been forever changed. But, she became the person she needed to be. I can’t wait to read Ryan and Jack’s stories. So excited to see how those turn out.

Very enjoyable great reading

I am glad that everything worked out for Liza and her mates Parker and Kade. It was sad that her mother was killed by Jonathan but he did get what was coming to him. I can't wait to read more on the other two and what is going on with them and also visit with Liza and her mates again.

Liza is coming to terms with be a vampire and what they means for her. This are still a little bumpy. Unfortunately Jonathan pops up and does the unthinkable. Liza is heartbroken with the news. Parker and Kade hate seeing there mate like this and they understand that this needs to end. Ryan and Jack are amazing I love those two and can't wait see how there story's go.

Well written

I loved following this story and finding the end. Even Freda protecting her son while misguided and hurtful I could understand. Jenny made you want to cry with making the hard choices. I look forward to the next book by Poppy and going where it takes us.
