Isurus Palinuridae has escaped! After evading pursuit by its military creators, the shark-crustacean hybrid has disappeared in the Atlantic. In its search for food, it finds a new hunting ground off the shores of an island resort. Stuck in a dead-end animal caretaker job for the resort, Marine Biologist Julie Forster begins to notice strange events plaguing the island. Whales are turning up dead in the local waters, and fishermen are disappearing. After setting out for a task on the water, Dr. Forster discovers an enormous shark lurking off the island coast. With a thick exoskeleton, the creature is unlike anything she has ever seen. With an insatiable appetite, the creature attacks anything that moves. As events unfold, she discovers the truth about the creature’s origin, and the imminent threat from its very existence.

Early on in my reading of this book , I was not feeling the same type of rush that I felt with the first 'Behemoth.' I started thinking, nope, no way is this gonna top the first book. A lobster-shark hybrid is the beastie in this book and at first I was fooled into believing that the novel would not be half as terrifying and wondrous as the one with the crab-squid hybrid. I was kinda wrong though, it is almost 3/4 as bad ass as the crab-squid and definitely a terrifying fiend to contend with near the water. While there are people in the story, some with heroic aims and some as fodder, I have no issue in saying that really, I didn't care too much about the plot, however it never fails to crack me up how characters get sooo obsessed with exposing the truth. Sure the hybrids are military experiments and the government would like to cover them up, but the brave protagonists in this story fight not just the creatures but the government as if the government couldn't do far worse to the individuals than the beasties.
If you are a fan of creature features as I am, then you should definitely check out this book. While not as spectacular as the first there are plenty of surprises and action to be had...with a lobster-shark!
This book like the first one grabbed me from the beginning, I liked that it brought the characters from the first book into this book I liked the genetic aspect of it. I wish I could say that the misspelled words and things like that bothered me but they really didn’t. As with the first one I found myself really and truly not wanting to put this book down I found myself going back a couple of chapters just slow myself down but then I couldn’t wait to find out what was gonna happen. What can I tell you broken people, weird sharks, government scientist what else can you ask for in a great horror book or sci-fi book in my opinion.
I liked it as much as the first one. I like how the relationships and person's interacted work the heroine and that she was not some damsel in distress. She was a strong, kick- butt- and-take-names kind of woman that at the same time, was still very vulnerable.
Imagination? Consistently unbeatable. Strong, well-grounded characters? Mr. Cole remains a master. Rambling on? Nope, none here. Factual errors? One, maybe two; SO much better than its predecessor! Typos & grammatical errors? >sigh< Sorry. Still a major issue. I can't help but wonder how so many writers of this caliber seem to have the same problem; proofreading.
This book was insane, kill a monster another appeared. I just hope all this is make believe and made up by the writer. But I can see idiots in Washington trying to make some mega killing machines. Get the books and leave your reviews.
Perfect continuation for the first book. Every time, when you think the worst is over, worse still happens. Filled with action and heroics. I highly recommend the series.
