Reread 1/30/20: you'd think I'd have remembered that Dean is actually , but I didn't?? This story occupies a similar narrative space as Log Horizon, I think, where the main character introducing modern concepts to a medieval/fantasy world is the primary focus. The other characters are props for that, or for the main character, rather than distinct personalities. Not my favorite kind of storytelling. I won't change the rating, for the reason stated below.

*

As of this volume, I've gone from largely skeptical of it, to solidly enjoying it. The issues I have with it haven't gone away--Iris remains a near-omnipotent administrator and bureaucrat whose policies are always successful and never seriously questioned. But the subject matter has expanded, and that makes me more interested in it as a story rather than just an essay on social policy in comics form. The court intrigue continues and is given some (minor) depth, there's a bit of soap opera romance, and there are possible hints of an incipient in the capital. Maybe things won't go 1000% Iris's way as things go along? I won't hold my breath on that....

This volume is probably more in the 3 1/2 star range, but I'll be nice to it since we see so few things like it translated.

I enjoy the premise of this book, but it has sloppy pacing and is pretty shallow when it comes to world building and weaving the relationships of the people. There’s all these loyal servants that she rescued, but that’s pretty much all it says about them. There isn’t anything fleshed out as to how the original Iris must have been a kind and gentle girl that cared about people, but somehow became a bully for looove.

In this volume, Iris is apparently falling for Dean, but it came a little out of nowhere. I mean, if you’re used to shoujo stories you could see it coming, but it wasn’t built up. Then there’s her random sad backstory with Edward, who seemed like a decent kid, but maybe was just spouting nonsense since it seems he was a crappy fiancé even before Yuri appeared (weren’t they friends at least as kids?). No gifts, didn’t appreciate her…I’m confused how they became engaged in the first place…then that leads me to the dowager queen, Iria. Who…was in love with Iris’s mom?? That was definitely unexpected. Especially because at first it sounded as though they were the same age when they met, but if you think about it, they’re actually a generation apart. So, as an adult that had at least a son already, she fell in love at first sight with Merrilis, who was probably a teenager, since she wasn’t engaged yet…I don’t know, it just seemed weird and inexplicable to the story. And of course she’s obsessed with having Iris marry one of her grandsons to fulfill the wish of marrying Merrilis into the royal family. I assume that’s how she became engaged to Edward. Which suggests that the dowager queen doesn’t care if she’s actually happy or if it’s best for the kingdom…anyway, that was a bizarre road to take.

I guess the big reveal is that Dean is Prince Alfred, the much discussed first prince that has been absent overseas all this time 🙄 Who didn’t see THAT coming as soon as he appeared? As if Iris, growing up in the royal city and with her family so close to the throne wouldn’t know him or at least have seen a portrait.

Then there’s Yuri and Edward. Holy crap what a vapid and stupid couple. I decided that if Yuri isn’t a spy planning to take down the country by weakening them financially and militarily, she should be put down to keep the gene pool clear. Same with Edward, who indulges the nonsense. I know the king is ill, but there’s no way the prince could run around being that crazy and arbitrarily making huge decisions without someone able to control him. It’s simply absurd and unrealistic.

The author has a good idea here, it just does,y seem to be implemented well. Too much needs fleshing out to make a richer story. I’ll try the light novel to see if that’s any better.

I had not anticipate that this novel/manga series would turn to steep itself in romance and I had even hoped it would remain as it were but here we are, a quickly budding romance between Iris and Dean, a mysterious merchant who seems to know everyone (and is actually the elder prince Alfred— called it!). The entire time since the first or second chapter he had appeared, I thought “hmm, surely he must be the mysterious prince who never appears nor has publicly revealed his face in recent years”. Surely enough, he was. But something I did anticipate is that the Queen Dowager had been in love with Iris’s mother, Merellis, since their youth. I honestly would have never expected that from this series. And thus because of her love for Merellis, though knowing she is happy with her current family, wishes to have her a part of the royal family in some manner, and so she has intended to gain Iris through marriage since her birth (and had even named Iris herself, combining her own name with Merellis’s). Well, her wish may come true, because it seems that both Iris and Dean/Alfred feel not only comforted by each other’s presence but seem to yearn to stay by each other’s sides, all the while seeming to both be trying to shut out these feelings.
I’d really love it if they became closer and closer as friends and then we see that they aren’t able to stop this yearning anymore and fall into it. Honestly, that’s how some of the best loves are though. These two, they instantly fell. The both of them. There was an instant connection and they had no control from there. Sometimes when two people simply immediately sync up like that, it creates either a meaningful friendship or precisely that + DLC (a beautiful love). I think that if Iris and Dean/Alfred were to marry, their marriage would be ideal. It would be what Iris desires for herself as well as what her family desires for her.
Speaking of her family, Berne has turned a new leaf and I feel so proud of him. I also see that this manga still functions like the RPG it’s set in; especially in the academy chapters. It’s a nice reminder of the world Iris does indeed live in.

Akhirnya si first prince debut juga 😅

Dia menyamar sbg Dean, pekerja akuntan di salah satu Mercenary yg diketahui oleh Moneda, pedagang kepercayaan Iris yg menarik perhatiannya karena tau bagaimana permasalahan pajak yg terjadi di Fief. Iris mengundangnya utk bekerja sama sekaligus menawarinya bekerja sbg fulltimer akuntan pribadinya, namun ditolak dgn alasan dia masih belajar dan terikat dgn Mercenary tempatnya bekerja. Tp alasan dia menolak pun karena dia harus sesekali mengunjungi neneknya yg masih memegang status sbg great Queen yg sptnya menjamin keselamatannya dr kerajaan juga keluarga Edward. Jujur begitu liat art dan pembawaannya, auranya beda bingits. Dia terlihat antagonis charanya tp sptnya masa lalunya ngenes 😂

Iris mengajak Dean utk inspeksi ke gereja, dan berkenalan dgn Rafiel, dia adlh pendeta gereja yg agaknya disia2 karena sistem gereja yg tdk mengenal sekolah. Dia harus mengajari anak2 panti dgn pengetahuan seadanya bahkan mengobati mereka saat sakit tanpa biaya. Pdhl Rafiel ingin belajar. Sptnya penggambaran Dean ini kyk sengaja dibuat seimbang sama Iris. Dia berani mengusulkan sebuah ide utk membuat guild kesehatan, supaya kemampuan Rafiel tdk sia2. Sama kyk Iris yg berani membuka ide2 baru.
Namun selesai inspeksi, Dean mengamati perubahan sikap Iris yg mematung dan sedih ketika melewati toko perhiasan (karena Iris membayangkan Edward akan menikah betulan dgn Yuri). Lalu menggunakan afirmasi utk meng konfrontasi Iris. Yaa cowok begitu mana mungkin gak bikin cewek luluh. Buktinya Iris langsung luluh tp mana mungkin langsung ngaku. Ntar cepet tamat dong ceritanya 😂

Ditunjukkan juga gmn Iris bisa suka sama Edward. Menurutku wajar2 aja sih caranya. Tp begitu liat sikapnya yg tiba2 mutusin pertunangan dan milih cewek lain agak aneh sih. Keliatan kyk cinta mati gitu sama Yuri. Dan betulan ternyata Berne suka sama Yuri. Tp ada yg gak beres sama ceweknya 😂

Tp awas aja sih kalo Iris gak sampe happy ending. Daripada sama Edward yg buta ya mending sama Dean lah 😂

Jadi minat buat koleksi fisiknya. Tp kok kyknya mandeg ya terbitnya? LN nya sih udah tamat 😂

Today's post on Accomplishments of the Duke's Daughter, volume 3 by Reia and art by Suki Umemiya. It is 160 pages long and published by Seven Seas Entertainment. As it is the third in the series you need to have read the first two volumes to understand the story. The cover has Iris and her brother Berne on it. There is no foul language, no sex, and no violence in this series. The story is told from third person close of Iris and some other characters to add to the overall narrative. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Business vs. Pleasure
Since becoming acting fief lord, Iris has been working herself ragged to improve the lives of her people. Now that sh's finally got the fiefdom's academy up and running she can't slow down now. But when she meets Dean, a handsome young merchant, Iris starts to realize that maybe there's more to life than work.

Review- Iris' plans are going very well and her fiefdom is getting better for every action she takes. Of course there is more going on than she is aware herself, her brother is now back on the family's side and is reporting whatever Lady Yuri is doing to their father, the prime minster. Dean is more than he seems as he is the eldest prince in disguise, as he traveling around the kingdom to learn about it and its needs. His grandmother is plotting to get them married but that's all we know about that plot thread. The plot is slow but progressing along well with Iris starting to grow in new ways as she realizes that she can be more than she thought. I do recommend this series and I am looking forward to seeing what is going to happen in the next volume.

I give this manga a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Dean enters the picture this time around as we see how Iris continues to expand her ideas through her domain and Irina issues her invitation back into high society. As with the last book, the blurb at the end is a small insight into the characters, but also very confusing as to when it takes place in the storyline. The interaction indicates that it may be when Dean is still considered to just be an employee and not part of the family, however, there are many references to Iris' grandfather that is no longer there. It is possible that they are referencing Louis' father rather than the General, but so far in the series most reference to any grandfather has been to the General, who also is supposedly the most non-aristocrat of the bunch even though he's also a noble, which would fit with the general descriptions. However, it's also well known that for not coming across as a noble, being the head of the army, he's still rather intimidating, so perhaps not. Without further clarity in this snippet it's hard to really pinpoint who they're talking about or when it might take place, leaving it rather ambiguous at best.

**apr 2024**

read until: chapter 65 (uncompleted)

iris used to believe that as acting leader, she can’t show her vulnerability to her people, especially the ones working closely with her. but when she doesn’t waver during difficult times, her closest allies are worried about her, concerned that she’s carrying too much on her shoulders. iris is, in fact, shouldering a huge responsibility as leader of her domain; many people’s lives are at stake when she comes up with policies, improvements, and changes. slowly though, it seems like iris is allowing others see another side of her that’s more uncertain and scared.

another thing is, i liked the pacing of the story. even from the start, months and years passed by within chapters as iris is slowly building up her corporation and speeding past all the preparation work was great. however, this doesn’t mean that there’s any compromise on the relationship building which i think is highly important for this manga since iris needs the trust and honesty between her and her people/allies to work in the reader’s mind. i didn’t feel like anything was rushed unnecessarily at all.

This series finally has a solid love interest!!!! YAS! Ok now that that is out of the way, this is overall a good story but it can be dense.
• If you love world-building and political intrigue in your manga I think youd really enjoy this but if you're not you probably wont be a fan of this.
• I loved the additional characters that were added in this particular volume (like the new love interest he's cute) but the plot twist was a tad obvious sorry.
Overall, I love this series and I cannot wait to read more. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

It's at this point I've realized that this series is very sneaky edutainment. I've learned about banks, taxes, medical reform, politics, and economics, but I just can't be mad about it. It just oozes charm, and the characters are very engaging (even during their lectures). I feel like with Iris's move back to the capitol we'll see more of the actual story. I'm interested to see where things goes from here.

Still Love It

This series revolves so much around Iris's work that I would normally find it boring, but because Iris gets so excited about it, I find it refreshing. Plus, with Dean's entrance, a subtle romance element begins to thread through. Also, the state of the kingdom and the warring factions makes it even more interesting.

Weird how a story about an accountant and reforms in a medieval setting can be interesting. Sure, there is some romance and political intrigue, but that is mostly delegated to the background with promise for more. It is more prominent compared to the girst 2 parts though. I do think Iris is a bit too optimistic about human nature and the benefits of modern tax systems.

For me this book felt the same as the last one. I do like it a little more for the love interest Iris has for Dean. Dean seems like an honest and loyal guy. I hope Iris and Dean do end up together. Idk why but sometimes Iris just irks me bc she works herself to the bone and has no other life.

I still feel like the timeline is going so fast, but I'm getting much more interested in the political twists and hidden identities. Hoping that the next volume will give more "oomph".

I am glad that Iris was able to reconcile with her brother. It also gives the characters more depth, beyond just a simple archtype trope.
