What is it that drives us on when life becomes tough and we cannot see the world as before but only through our memories, smells, and touches? Another Time, Another Place is exciting, mysterious, suspenseful and sexy quest through romantic France (from Paris to Marseilles) for something we value most. It is a test of friendship and love when tragedy and trauma caught us in their net of sacrifice, blackmails, sexual encounters, desire, longing, false hopes, and everything that struggles in us to set us free and find happiness again. A story worth reading.

Ripped from their home—a luxurious hotel on a small tropical island paradise—by a storm of epic proportions, Raoul and Alistair now eke out a meagre existence in a run-down flat in a dodgy section of Paris. Raoul, blinded in their tragic ship wreck, now depends upon Alistair far more than he ever intended, and both men harbor secrets that threaten to destroy their tenuous foundations as they search for the one person who might be able to give them the answers to the questions they seek—what really happened that horrible day at sea? Both men risk getting far too involved with the dark and shady characters they encounter in their search for the mysterious and elusive Edith Moreau, the one person they suspect can tell them what they yearn to know, but no one is as they appear, and devious strangers often have their own secrets to keep—secrets, Raoul fears, that could lead them to further ruin. Who can be trusted? At the same time, Raoul struggles with an ever-present need to pursue dangerous liaisons with the nefarious men he encounters in equally dangerous places. This book, ANOTHER TIME, ANOTHER PLACE, is superbly written and full of mystery and suspense. The characters are very well-developed, and you come to love them—despite their weaknesses. As with the previous books by R.S. Charles/Charles Raines that I have read, the prose is lyrical and erudite. You don’t just read this story; you feel it with every one of your senses. I devoured it and would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys M/M romance with a heaping side of racy intrigue.

WOW! Once again R.S. Charles and Charles Raines have told a compelling novel with so many twists and turns that the ending was shielded from the beginning. As the story progressed, I sensed there was an unbreakable bond between Raoul and someone from his past. As events unfolded his tangible sense of loss was indicative of the reader's quandary over where the story is heading. It took us from the red light district of Paris to the docks of Marseille where the tide turned and the reason for Raoul's need to find answers surfaced; a reason that suddenly looked him right in the eye. But the reader's joy of Raoul finding the object of his search is short lived and hope is again shattered when we discover all is not what it seems. It was heart wrenching to discover that loss comes in many guises and Raoul was not suffering alone. The story is bitter sweet, tugging at the reader's emotions. In the end all comes together to fulfil the longing both the reader and the characters yearn for. Despite skilful hints throughout the book, the outcome is masterfully shrouded in deceptive sunshine and shadows. The twist of the last few chapters brings a happy ending and lifts the reader's spirits, telling us second chances do happen. I think this is a masterful standalone novel combining the plots of R S. Charles and the crisp writing of Charles Raines. It is a sexy gay romance that will tug at your heartstrings and one I'd highly recommend.

Soothing to one's mood. Short, crisp, and enjoyable. Continuously, I asked myself, "Where is this book going?" And like all good reads, in the end, I was quite pleased. I'm not one to share spoilers. But I can tell you that the read becomes a walk in Paris with believable characters you can relate to, enjoy, loathe, and love. I didn't know what I liked better: the melancholic and calm tone, confrontational dialogue, or the novel's eloquent description. The characters are strong-willed and believable. They will become your friends that you like, despise, and fall in love with. Through Paris café scenes and sexual m/m relations behind closed door, the plot unfolds, creating a beautiful blanket of lives. Through inclines and declines of present and past connections with the characters, I wasn't at all disappointed. An intriguing read with beautifully crafted language. Add a pinch of French language, lots of Parisian culture, and Another Time, Another Place will pass a few hours of your time, leaving you warm-hearted and carrying these characters' lives with you. Kudos to the writers. I loved it.
