Like Courtney, Katie believes she's living a fairytale life that was tailor-made just for her, starting with the picture-perfect dentist she married. However, the handsome, successful doctor is nothing more than a calculated, clever fraud that said "I do" one too many times. Matching canary yellow diamond rings, the same Range Rover, and two expensive brick homes purchased in the same neighborhood were all part of the doctor's double life.
Dr. Reynolds sold Katie and Courtney a dream that didn't belong to either of them—a dream he'll confiscate without warning in an ending, not even the wives could see coming…

The idea was interesting, but was poorly executed. The characters were not fleshed out, were one dimensional and not likeable. The wives, abused, devalued, and neglected, chose to stay for more of same. Some things just didn't fit. Why would the snobby blond wife, who was obsessed with appearance, marry a black man, even if he were beautiful and sexy? Why would he marry such a shallow woman? The sex scenes with her were dull and glossed over. There was a bit too much repetition of blond wife's nasty thoughts The other wife was just a sweet, loving naive person. Neither deserved the husband's treachery which was poorly explained. The story lacked depth.
Lots of drama, gaslighting, manipulation Some parts made me laugh because the concept was unbelievable that someone could be so naive as to believe everything being told to them 1 man 2 spouses Married Neither spouse know of the other But something isn't right they just don't know what it is They only know that they only see him a few days out the week He's busy He's working What else could it be
This book was beyond ridiculous! From the ridiculous storyline to definitely being spelled as DEFIANTLY all through the book, I can’t believe I read this through the end. Glad it was a free read because I would never spend money to read this.
The first page says going through a faze…not a phase, but a faze…the second page talks about good old fashion advice…not old fashioned, but old fashion. I’m finished with this book.
Didn’t like. It was very repetitive with multiple typos. Wrote defiantly instead of definitely multiple times. I felt like I was irritated the whole time I was reading it.
What a TWISTED, CRAZY story. Two wives, Katie and Courtney, who have been married to the same man, who lied about everything, his career, intentions and so on.
Katie is so unlikeable and mean, her attitude to her sisters is awful. She thinks she is the top of the world, but she has no education, only husband's money. Courtney seems to be cool, she is educated, has her own career, and she is gay, actually a man, which I didn't expect but later on I realized it.
So, Eri[c][k] or Erick is living a double life with them. Wives have almost the same houses, same cars, same vacations, the same husband. He is mental, and in some moments, there is seen a violence in Erick to both Katie and Courtney, but overall he is trying to be a loving husband and they both believe that he loves them, and that he's such a hardworking husband. But Katie is a bit smarter than Courtney, because her intuition tells her that something is wrong with him.
Later on Erick, wants to have a baby, so the craziest is, he adopts a white baby girl named Katie for him and Courtney, and a black baby boy named Courtney for him and Katie. Oh God, from this part, they both thought it was a little weird, and I was like: 'Why are y'all not concerned? Like... run tf!'. So far, Erick is lucky, and he isn't caught YET. But a little later, Courtney realizes she and Katie are neighbors, and she goes to Katie's house to discover this weirdness. And this time she finds the truth, they're both married to the same man.
The ending is the craziest. Erick got caught and he confiscates both of their Range Rovers, okay(?). I wanna know the point of him doing that, but there was no any info, so anyway, they both went to Courtney's house where Erick was at, and he was with a gun, so either he could kill one of them or kill himself. He explained the story of him, and why he was with both of them, because Katie reminded him of his mom, and Courtney reminded him of his dad, crazy, crazy...
In the end, Katie knew he was sick and she was done with him, but Courtney knew he was sick but didn't want him to end his life. His decision was to kill himself, and Courtney was upset and she blamed Katie (in her thoughts) for husband's death. I wish the ending was longer because it seemed like Katie wanted to speak to Courtney.

The only reason I finished this book was to figure out the craziness and it nearly drove me crazy. A lot of the story just didn't make sense and was never explained. The wives were too accepting of Eric/Erik's behavior; they loved him more than they loved themselves. It would have been so easy to discover Eric/Erik's bs but I don't believe they really wanted to know. How was he a 'traveling' dentist? And surely he wasn't a doctor which was repeatedly stated - dentists don't do emergency calls like doctors do. I think the wives saw what they wanted to see, especially Kate - she was more concerned about the 'come up' Eric afforded her. The ending was a disappointment. After all the hype, it just fizzled out leaving a lot of unanswered questions.
"My Husband’s Wife" (2019, 2021) by Nick Haskins is a novel with an interesting premise: A handsome man who’s a bigamist is living two lives, both mired in secrets and lies. Told from the viewpoints of the deceived spouses, the story stretched my suspend disbelief meter way too far. Also I never grew to care for any of the three main characters. Finally, perhaps narrator Dawn Hartwell should have colored her voice more for one of the spouses to distinguish the two. Not recommended.
The book doesn't flow well and the plot seems rushed. The descriptive language used for the internal monologues is vile and doesn't seem fit the characters. The ending seemed rushed after such a long and drawn out climax.
This was an interesting read because it took me places I never thought I’d venture down, but at the same time, I feel as though I’m on the fence with this.
Dr. Reynolds was the epitome of what a good-looking man was supposed to look like. He was very tall, dark chocolate, handsome and well hung. What was not to love about this man? Hmm, if I were a single woman, sign me right on up! Dr. Reynolds was a well-respected dentist in the community and lived in an affluent neighborhood of Potomac, Maryland. (Funny, I used to watch the Real Housewives from that area as well). When Katie met Dr. Reynolds, to say it was love at first sight, was a definite understatement. They instantly hit it off and before long, the two were engaged to be married. Life couldn’t get any sweeter than this, thought Katie.
But Katie had issues. She was a narcissistic mean-girl spirited woman who thought she was better than everyone else. She liked to throw up her white privilege and her good looks to her sisters named Kyle and Epiphany. (Ahem. . .please note, I was thrown off by the name choices for these two characters.) She couldn’t stop talking about the wonderful life she was going to have with her new husband and how degrading and belittling it would be for her sisters to never experience the type of life she had. Talk about being full of yourself and extra. Hmmph!
Katie’s sisters suspected something wasn’t quite right with the brother-in-law to be and tried to warn her about it, but of course, they were haters and trying to destroy her happiness. (I was once accused of that very thing. . .but that’s a story for another day). Anyhoo, Katie dismissed her sisters’ cries and kept right on with her life. That is, until she realized that her hubby, Dr. Reynolds, was an absent husband. He didn’t spend much time with her at all. She understood he was a doctor, but they were newly married and was supposed to be in the throws of passion every night and enjoying each other’s newfound love and happiness, but all he seemed to care about was handling his patients. So, the only time Katie got to see Dr. Reynolds were a few days a week and that was stretching it if that.
So, secretly while Katie cried her blue eyeballs out every night refusing to believe her sisters had a valid point, she kept putting on airs. Where was Dr. Reynolds, Katie wondered?
What Katie didn’t know was that her Dr. Reynolds was living a double life because about a few blocks over, Dr. Reynolds’ other wife, Courtney, resided. As the reader continues on the journey of Katie and Courtney, the picture soon becomes clear just as to who was really being hoodwinked.
Eh, ok, let’s get to what I liked about this story. I truly enjoyed the storyline and watching the two wives try to figure out what was going on with their husband, but this is also the part where things began to go south for me too. It truly grated on my last nerve how dumb Katie and Courtney were. These two had to be the dumbest people on the planet. Although I know that most doctors’ lives are hectic much like that of attorneys, there isn’t any person that darn busy. For your man to be gone the same days each week like some sort of schedule, that would have raised a huge flag for me. Neither of them ever thought to follow their husband or listen to their family and friends when they raised flags about things Dr. Reynolds was doing? The very sisters that Katie constantly put down were the ones she ended up going to for understanding. She was downright nasty to them. I was pissed with that because I would not have been that forgiving.
The other thing that grated my nerves were the back and forth between Katie’s and Courtney’s chapters. It was like watching a tennis match. I might have been able to stomach that more had they both not been so stupid. They were the type to believe donkeys can fly. That drove me nuts. I found myself screaming at my Kindle. “Wake up!” The ending didn’t help me any either. I found it to be a bit immature and reaching. It just didn’t make sense to me at all. I get what happened and why it happened, but the explanation was so weak. I had a few endings I thought would have paired well with this story, but it’s not my story to tell. At any rate, I found this story to be just ok.
This is the first book I have read by Nick Haskins. The title drew me in and I couldn’t wait to dive into this story full of drama and manipulation. So, let’s meet the characters: Katie, the blonde, self-absorbed wife of Dr. Eric Reynolds; Courtney, the ambitious and ever-loving wife to Dr. Erik Reynolds; and Dr. Eric/Erik/Erick Reynolds, the loving and at time cruel master manipulator who would eventually ruin everyone’s lives.
While I enjoyed the twists and surprising turns in the novel, I couldn’t believe how gullible the wives were. No one bothered to vet the validity of Dr. Reynolds by visiting him at his office, meeting any of his family or friends or even Googling him. They simply took him at face value that he was a doctor, and they were married to a doctor and that’s all that mattered.
Overall, it was a quick read. I loved Haskins’ storytelling voice and his descriptions of the characters and places. However, I didn’t find the characters likeable or endearing. Katie was mean and hateful to her sisters, looked down on folks when she herself didn’t have anything else going for her except she was married to Dr. Reynolds. Courtney was also mean to a very good friend when they tried to point out some red flags about Dr. Reynolds. Additionally, both wives even suffered physical abuse by his hands, yet they forgave him and pledged their love to him.
Nevertheless, they say love can be blind and these wives were totally blind until their lives collided, and they found out about all the similarities they both shared: wedding rings, cars, homes, and the same husband. When all the secrets were revealed, Dr. Reynolds left both his wives to face a life of confusion, disgrace, and emotional suffering. Quite a tale!
Some of my favorite lines:
I could tell Katie was trying to hold it together, but she was losing the battle quickly. “I don’t know who you are. I don’t know if you’re Eric Reynolds, Erik Reynolds, Erick Reynolds, Dr. Reynolds . . . I don’t know what you’ve done to me, nor do I understand why you did it, but I’m out of here! I can’t stand to look at you for another second!” I jumped out of the chair and shouted, “Katie, wait! I’m Erick Reynolds. I switched up the spelling of my first name so I could maneuver and manipulate any and everything I needed to without so many questions. Deeds, contracts, receipts.” I paused for a quick second. “Marriage licenses. I had to be one man with you, Katie, so I could be another man for Courtney.”
Eric/Erik/Eric Reynolds is a gorgeous and very successful dentist who has set in stone what he wants in life an his type of woman to settle down with. Katie Morgan is snobbish.bouvier d looks down on her two sisters Epiphany and Kyle but remember he who laughs lasts, laughs last! When Katie meets Dr Eric Reynolds’s she is over the moon! Fancy dining, lavish home and the most beautiful wedding allot the thanks of this wonderful man and when it is time to say “I do”Katie is front and centered. Courtney Byrd never dreamed he would meet the perfect husband but one day in the store turns out to be a jackpot when Dr Erik Reynolds sweeps him off his feet! Two lives intertwined more than they know and one person holds they key and it is a big one! It is unbelievably what the heart wants and what the mind will do to get it. Erick is beyond words as he orchestrates this wonderful life that may have a crash landing when the wives meet! Good luck!
I enjoyed the twists & turns of the plot and the way each character's perspective was written. I just had a very difficult time with spelling errors throughout the book. One that drove me crazy early on MAY have been intentional by the author but as a reader, it seemed careless. Others were simple and should have been caught by any editing. Many of the errors changed the meaning of a sentence such as using defiantly rather than definitely on multiple occasions. I'm glad I pushed beyond my spelling pet peeve to finish the book though as I never saw that conclusion coming and was upset that there wasn't just "one more chapter".
This book was all that and more. It was so ooo damn good omg I loved every detail. It was a page turner for sure. Written with pure genius. Being an author myself I was truly inspired by the storyline the twists and the structure that was incredible. It began perfectly and ended perfectly. This is going down as one of my favorite reads. The details were immaculate. Cheers to Nick Haskins for capturing a beautiful betrayal at the cost of a selfish but unselfish love.
Now this was a book that I wanted to strangle the characters. I couldn’t believe that Erik was able to control both spouses and leave them clueless. I felt sorry for Katie in the beginning until she threw her sisters out when they were trying to clue her in on what they found out. Courtney was stupid even in the end. Erik was a coward that’s why he took his own life. It was my first time reading something from this author and I wanted and expected more.
First of all—at the beginning—I hated the characters so much that I wanted to quit the book. However, I did not, and I did not regret that. It’s also true to say that if you hate the characters, the writer is doing their job. The storyline and the pathway all the way to the end of the book was threaded together so nicely. Every chapter made sense, and the ending was not what I expected. It just kept getting better and better with every turn of the page.
Wow, wow, wow!!! Is all I can say! This book had me gasping and giggling from the very first page. Such a well written, fast paced, witty, twisted and unexpected read!
I don't even know where to begin or what I loved more! The story is funny and tragic all at the same time. It has wit and charm and a boldness to it that I did not see coming!
I read this book in less than 24 hours. Erick, Katie, and Courtney were well developed characters whom I really wanted to learn more about. This is a gripping story that will take you on a rollercoaster ride from the beginning to the end! I would love to see a part two.
This was five stars from start to finish. This was definitely a good read twist and turns. All I can say is if it seems to good to be true look some more. I would have liked a different ending, but the one the author gave was very good. Thanks Nick, I could not put it down. Keep up the good writing.😃😃😃
I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the plot and the execution of the storyline. I felt satisfied by the ending as well. Some of the things the main character did seemed outlandish but that added comedy relief for me ....lol. It was a entertaining read from start to finish. Loved it!!!!!
Easy ready but the story is just ok. I was excited to read about the man with 2 wives but There are alot of flaws in the story. I also don't understand how two people would tolerate so much crap from their husband.I also found it hard to really like the main characters. One was really a b**** and the other was whiny. Finished it fast but nothing to rave about.
It was alright. It had a great storyline, but I didn't feel like it delivered. Hated the ending... Just seemed rushed to end the book. I hate having to read through awkward details of couples having sex. I believe it's a complete cop-out for the writer not to be more creative in composing more beautifully written intimate scenes. My opinion, of course.
Erik,Eric ,Erick whatever was working my nerves and him killing himself was a weak ass move but that Katie man I wish I could whoop her ass like you just assume your wack lying ass hubby could never be with a black man. Overall this is the first time reading this kind of story and I liked it.
First off, this book is definitely recommendable! It was so good! I couldn't put it down! Always follow your gut! I know this was only fiction but I truly believe this is really going on. Women or men is often turns a blind eye to their situation or stay in a toxic relationship because of financial gain.
Very entertaining. I was not expecting the truths that were revealed at the end. Surely thought one character (Courtney) was the stronger of the two. What a story. Can’t wait to see if Nick has anymore books for me to read. Hope they keep me glued to them like this one did. Good story.
Couldn’t get past the S/A scene with Katie and Eric. There should have been a warning at the front for possible triggers. I wouldn’t have even gotten this free book if I knew it had scenes like that. Plus, I don’t want to read about some ‘Karen’s’ horrible, rancid, and narcissistic thought process especially about her sisters. DNF
This was my first read by this author and not my last! I really enjoyed this story so much that I hated when it ended! Erick was really mental and needed to be hospitalized! I believe Katie didn’t really love him but Courtney did. Didn’t expect the ending to happen the way it did!
This book had me on the edge of my seat. Up at 1am knowing I start work at 5am. Eri(ck)(c)(k) is like WHOA. I don't ever want to be that blinded that I can't see the real deal. Katie and Courtney will need counseling after this.
I don’t know how i came across this book but i couldn’t sit it down. I had to find out how this was going to play out in the end. I wish i got a bit more dialogue between Katie & Courtney in the end, but I’ll leave that to my imagination.
This was well written and easy to follow. I have never read anything like this. It was bazaar but truly believeable. My hope is that a person wouldn't go as far as take their own life because they were betrayed.
