Her last romance with a coworker ended in heartbreak. But this doctor is her boss--and he promises to do no harm.
Trauma nurse Samantha Clark is ready to take back her life. Narrowly escaping death by her ex's lover, she moves back home to work at Norfolk Med. Her new job with Dr. Armstrong is supposed to help her face her past pain, not stir up feelings of longing for a second chance at love. Her rule against office romances has never been more tested--and she's never been more willing to go against her doctor's order to break it. Former Army surgeon Dr. Huxley “Huck” Armstrong is ready to shed his cocky reputation. With a promotion on the line, he’s not letting love--or hookups--distract him. He'll earn the respect of his colleagues outside the on-call rooms, starting with the cute new nurse he's forced to train. But when he touches the jagged scar curving her face, he wants to protect her, know everything about her, and help her heal from her present heartache.
But someone in Sam’s past still haunts her. When Sam lets her guard down, her vulnerability will invite more than just the passion Huck's offering. And Huck's willing to take the risk. He'll gladly put his life on the line for a woman who's beautiful inside and out.
Splint is the first standalone medical romance in the Norfolk saga, sizzling stories about the emergency responders of Norfolk, Virginia. If you enjoy electric chemistry, scorching kisses, and page-turning action, then you'll fall in love with these dramatic romances by Eliza Ellis.
A wonderfully well written steamy romance. The characters are interesting, likeable, have painful pasts with baggage, and have Irresistible steamy chemistry with a great cast of supporting characters. This engaging storyline is complicated with lots of twists, drama, suspense, and some mystery.

This was advertised as a IR book. But non of the characters have me that impression. Is this the new norm for writers now?? Misleading readers. I wasn't necessarily happy with the ending. I should have known when I'd never heard of this author in the IR gender
Well, this hero doctor was inflicted with a bad case of knucklehead, folks. All because his ego got bruised awhile back by a former love interest. Instead of manning up and taking it on the chin, he chose to become a manho. How did that work out for him? Not so great.
Despite trying to move up the medical ladder as head of the trauma unit, Huck was his own worst enemy. His meaningless hanky panky in janitorial closets, on-call rooms, and pretty much anywhere and with anyone earned him evil death stares and longingly looks at the same time. More importantly, it tarnished his hospital street cred and professional reputation in a very big way. All to prove to himself he was still manly after his precious, perfect Diana up and left him. At least those sexcapades were mostly implied so we didn’t have to witness each and every one of them up close and personal. He does come around with the painful realization he has left a trail of hurt feelings and broken hearts and now feels guilty about it. Rather too little, too late, buddy, if you ask me.
I especially was embarrassed for Jo, a fellow doctor, who still had the hots for him. “Let him go, honey. He was just into you for one thing, and it is now pretty obvious. Hold onto your self-respect and walk away,” is what I wanted to tell her. Turning catty and hateful doesn’t look good on anyone.
I absolutely loved how this book started out with such an unexpected, explosive, dramatic beginning, even though some of the scenes were graphically gruesome. It certainly showed how tough, resilient, and sassy this determined leading lady was, despite her OTT hard luck past. She sure rode into town with a bang and knocked this doc for a loop. Unfortunately, that was really the biggest highlight for me.
At almost halfway through it, Sam’s sisterhood card started to take some big hits from me. In all of two days or so this book mostly unfolds, and Sam’s feeling all kinds of hot and bothered for this guy and vice versa. Now she’s finding herself tugged into the mop closet with him. Well, to talk at first. Of course, he can’t resist a touch or two each time. Then some lip locking begins. Honestly, it felt inappropriate for how Huck, who barely knew her, would reach up cup her face, grab for her hand, touch her shoulder, etc. And, why, oh, why, does the guy keep jumping into closets knowing how everyone associates them with him misbehaving. Like it is perfectly normal to step into one and have a casual conversation.
The storyline itself became rather too much. Samantha’s life threatening past that reignited was one thing. It was bizarre enough. To throw in ex-drama of both this main couple and the other threat that seemed to be lurking around the corner was another.
The writing kept me riveted at first, then just didn’t seem to measure up to quite what I had hoped throughout. Likely cause I wasn’t overly fond of this egotistical hero. It's been ages since I've come across a medical romance. I'm just still on the fence if this series is worth pursuing.
Title: Splint, Series: A Norfolk Medical Romance, Author: Eliza Ellis, Pages: 208.
(These comments are based on a Kindle Unlimited edition. This is not a detailed ARC review.)
I would not call this a straight up romance. This felt like one of those evening television hospital soaps where it is all about drama and angst. I don't watch those shows because they don't really interest me so reading this book was a little hard. I can appreciate that there are many people that are going to love the style this book/series was done it but I can honestly say I will not be reading more of the series. So if you like (Insert Color) Anatomy or any of the other stories that are on tv in that realm you will probably love this book and the series.

I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I enjoyed this story about Samantha and Huck. She's coming back home to Norfolk to train as a trauma nurse. On her way to her first day training, she witnesses and is involved in a serious multiple vehicle crash. Beside being injured herself Samantha puts aside her pain to help several other victims. Huck is a trauma surgeon who is and known to be a player, after his failed proposal to Diana. When the trauma center goes crazy after the accident he runs face-first into Sam, knocking her to the ground. Once they realize that she's is the nurse he is to train, both fight the chemistry between them. Sammy is fighting hey past, where her ex husband's mistress tried to murder her. Follow as they take care of the victims and deal with the growing feelings for each other as well as the jealousy if follow team members. But when both of their ex's show up, are they really there for them or to cause more problems? Lots of mystery surrounding the accident and the gut guy.

From the first chapter when new trauma nurse Samantha Clark was involved in a multi-car pile up with multiple injuries and fatalities when a tractor trailer involved in human trafficking jackknifed and blew up on the highway this story had plenty of action. I thought at one point the criminals behind that would go after Sam because she saw one of them run away from the truck and he identified her at the hospital. But she really has to worry about her ex-husband’s girlfriend who tried to kill her and ran out on her bail. There was plenty of action in the ER as the doctors and nurses dealt with multiple serious surgery cases on a daily basis. From the moment Sam stumbles into Dr. Huxley Armstrong there’s an attraction between then. But he’s her boss, has been reprimanded for having relationships with coworkers before, and his exs just won’t let him go. I thought that their romance developed too quickly since they really didn’t know each other long before the I love yous.
Another really enjoyable book by Eliza Ellis. I've read several books by this author, and have enjoyed every one. That said, I have a weakness for hospital romances, probably because I worked in one for a long time. I really enjoyed Sam and Huck together. They have good chemistry, and that spark is always with you throughout the book. Also, I liked how the suspenseful/dangerous parts were written, not overblown or super campy like others I've read, but real, on the edge of your seat, tell me what will happen next, kind of suspense.
I really enjoy this author, and I think you will too!

WOW this book started with a bang in more ways than one and I mean that literally. Trauma nurse Samantha Clark is on her way to her new job when she is involved in a multi vehicle accident and one of those vehicle sharpens to be a truck carrying victims of human trafficking. She also gets her first encounter with the head of trauma at Norfolk Dr. Huxley Armstrong he is her future boss and the attraction between them is instant but nothing can happen between them he is her boss and he is already on a warning for affairs with his co workers. As danger closes in around Samantha is it the human traffickers or is the danger from much closer. This is a fast paced suspenseful read that kept me interested to the very last page
Sam was on her way back home to take a position as a nurse in training for the trauma center. What she hadn't expected was to be in a multi car crash on the expressway that involved mass casualties. The doctor, Hux that she was expected to meet was a very rude man after all he knocked her down and left her there on his way to OR. Dr. Hux was captivated by the nurse, but he knew he had to be on good behavior if he wanted the position a head of the trauma ward. This story has you from the first all the way to the end. It is well written with lots of supporting characters that does this story proud. Sam is a strong woman who has endured a lot and it just proves you can't keep a good woman down!

I have enjoyed Eliza’s books before and this was no exception. Sam and Huck fit well together. The story starts with a bang literally when Sam is involved in a serious RTA on her way to her first shift as a trauma nurse. Huck is in line for head of the trauma department and has no wish to train someone new after his last nurse hurriedly left when he proposed to her after they had been dating for a year. Sam is also trying to overcome the hurt, both mental and physical, caused by her unfaithful husband and his psychotic lover. Will they make it when both their pasts come back to haunt them.

I've read other books by this author and liked them, which is why i picked this one up. It started out at break neck speeds. I was immediately sucked in. Unfortunately, I only got to 8% and that was enough for me. The fact that the doctor was a conceited jerk and a sex maniac who objectified women turned me off immediately. Then the mc nearly called a woman a b***h. And from other reviews, it sounds like it doesn't improve as the story goes along. There's enough good writing out there that I'm not wasting my time with this! I'd give it zero rating if i could. So disappointing.
I thought this was a really good read. The story held my interest, featured likable characters and had a solid foundation built of strong emotions. Samantha and Huck both have baggage from their painful pasts that continues to weigh heavily on them. The chemistry between the lead characters felt steamy and genuine. The plot offers drama, suspense and many twists that will encourage you to keep right on reading regardless of what you have on your agenda for the day. I'm eager for the next book in this series. This is my honest, voluntary review.
Splint is the first Eliza Ellis book I've read and it will not be the last. The characters and the storyline was well written and enjoyable to read. Samantha and Huck are both strong characters and that made for a well balanced couple. The attraction between the couple simmered along nice as they engaged in a chemistry that was steamy and hot, an entertaining tale, one that will satisfy the reader. I'm looking forward to the next read by this author.

I enjoyed this book in its entirety; it grabbed my attention from page one and took me on one exciting ride. It is a well written story that is mixed with action, suspense, drama, twists and turns, and so much more; the plot is consistent and realistic. The characters are strong with lots of chemistry between them. I could not stop reading and at the same time, hated that it ended. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. Definitely recommended! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A story that is well written and has a nice storyline and plot. It was an enjoyable read that caught me from the first chapter. The characters are well defines and they develop nicely through the story. A story that flows well of the pages and keeps the reader wanting to know more. A story that has two characters who has a lot of pain and baggage from their past. There are things which they have to struggle to leave in the past. Maybe they can support each other and go for their attraction and have a HEA? A mix of suspence, drama, steam and twists that makes it worth the read.
This was yet another wonderful drama filled, angst feeling romance book from Eliza Ellis. The storyline was fantastically well written with unexpected twists. The chemistry between Huck and Samantha was off the charts. I really enjoyed reading this book about two broken hearted people trying to overcome the pain of the past in order to find happiness and love. I loved this new book from Eliza Ellis and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Sammy wants a fresh start but she didn’t picture her first day of work getting into a wreck and meeting her boss going into a ambulance but Sammy has a past will she overcome it to became a great nurse!
wow what a bang of a story that is steamy and hot read. this book will have youy hooked from the very first page tell the very ending. this is a nurse truma read that will have you amazed by this read.
I didn't like it. I don't like how the author wrote the female lead. I felt the male lead was too arrogant. Most of the supporting characters except nurse Pritchard we lacking and mean.
Over all its a good story, but the ending didnt work for me. It left too muçh unfinished with the trauma unit and the relationships between Sam, Huck, Jo and Diane.
Splint by Eliza Ellis reads like a spin-off of Grace Anatomy (not that I'm a fan of that series) with a side of suspense. The author has great talent, and she sucked me into the story pretty fast (I mean, I read it in a day). I liked how the book starts with a bang (truck accident/ explosion) and how it introduces us to the not so cute "meet-cute" of the main characters, Nurse Samantha (Sam) Clark and Dr. Huxley (Huck) Armstrong. It was great to have both POVs since each will get to present their backgrounds at their own pace. Also, the chemistry between those two was intense, keeping steady throughout the book, right along with the suspense (thanks to a psycho and a cartel) and the drama.
Now, as for my rating, even though I did like it, and this book started strong, I'm deducting a couple of stars for the following reasons:
OK, first, I think this one is more of a pet peeve (I mean, I've been accused of being too perceptive logical) but, I guess I can't help it. What this means for the book is that there were times when I was more focused on the suspense arc, and even though Sam picked up on some details about things that were off, she'd either dismiss them as her being tired, or couldn't remember them at the right time (namely, when speaking with the police) (sorry if this feels like a bit of a rant, but I somehow couldn't get past it, even when I reached the end). So, -1 star.
And the second has to do with the romance. I know that this is no CF (and the author never said it'd be), but what she did say was that this story was a clean read. Now, I know that for some that means that either there's no sex throughout the book at all, or that if there is, it's fade to black. So, according to this definition, yes, the book would classify as clean. However, and the reason for my -1 star, is that even though I was rooting for Sam and Huck to get together as a couple, I'll never support the being part of a premarital sex relationship. Yes, the reader is told throughout the book that's been Huck's modus operandi before, but I seriously hoped for him to turn a new leaf with Sam, or for her to handle things better. I know I'm in the minority here, but this is one of the few subjects I feel strongly about. However, if you're OK with this, then I think you'll enjoy it far more than I did (all the way to its bonus epilogue).
