Matt Bannister Western #4

The Wolves of Windsor Ridge

Rate this book
Welcome to Windsor Ridge, where Adam Bannister is led by a huge wolf – straight into the blurred battle lines. Nathan Peirce is hiding from an unjust bounty in Loveland, a small logging community in the treacherous Wallowa Mountains of Oregon. When the bank is robbed, Nathan is asked to join the local posse being led by their incompetent sheriff and a brooding stranger forced by the sheriff to help track the robbers.

Adam Bannister is elk hunting in the southern Wallowa’s when he sees the largest wolf he’s ever seen. Determined to hunt the wolf, he follows it over Windsor Ridge and into the direct path of the bank robbers and what’s left of the doomed posse.

One man is a serial killer, another is one of the most wanted men in the west. A gang of bank robbers and the brother of the U.S. Marshal Matt Bannister, who finds himself in the middle of a battle between some of the best and worst of mankind.

Sometimes, it’s safer to trust a pack of wolves than a man.

Ken Pratt

Ken Pratt worked to make a living, but his passion has always been writing. Having a busy family, the only "free" time he had to write was late at night getting no more than five hours of sleep a night. He has penned several novels that are being published along with several children stories as well. Ken Pratt says, "If you want something bad enough, you'll sacrifice something else to get it. I sacrifice sleep. I do not write to be a best seller or for wealth, I write to bring hope into the lives of the hopeless and encourage the disheartened through the lives of the characters and God's providence in my stories. There is always 'Hope' and that is the purpose of my books."

While Matt is traveling we find his uncle and cousin hunting in the Oregon wilderness when the younger man sets off to hunt the biggest wolf he has ever seen. In the meantime a gang of outlaws rob the small bank that includes a murderer who eventually kills most members of the posse pursuing him. Nathan is hiding in the small town with his wife who is escaping her controlling family. Nathan lives to escape the killer and finally meets the cousin hunting in the wilderness. They combine resources and return to the uncle where the find the murderer and kill him.

This is a page turner that is action filled with characters who are realistic whether good or evil. There was a lot of gun play as good overcomes evil. I would recommend this book to readers interested in the western genre.

Another outstanding western folklore story that certainly touches the heartstrings of any reader, and the suspenseful episodes definitely kept me on my toes from beginning to end. If you are seeking ongoing gunfights tension aboard and enjoy the experience of a lifetime. Never a dull moment!

Without a doubt another outstanding five star extravaganza that will appease anyone's desired expectations, and the storylines are successfully descriptive of the ongoing adventures that immediately reaches out and grabs your undivided attention! Too, the author's selection of characters most definitely fulfill their assigned roles so effectively.
Octavius is definitely someone to be reckoned with, but Adam, Luther, and Nathan handled the situation perfectly in the final showdown. Matt Bannister handled Nathan's and Sarah's situation effectively, and I certainly recommend an immediate follow up sequence to see how well.everything really turns out!
This is a family-friendly accounting of how far some parents will go to maintain control of their child, or children's, life. Sometimes it works out for the children, sometimes it just isn't meant to be. Definitely recommend this compassionate story to all reader, regardless of your reading pleasure, especially if you love descriptive storylines and ongoing excursions of realistic old western adventures, that leads you along some pretty hair raising adventures. Certainly your loss if you don't follow this compassionate masterpiece of suspenseful episodes from beginning to end!😮

My first reading of Ken Pratt was more enjoyable than this one. The palavering and proselytizing was more evident in this novel and destroyed the pacing that I’m sure the author was aiming for. I found the list of characters too lengthy, which added to the complexity of the story, and the difficulty in reading it. I was disappointed in the book and wish I wouldn’t be so picky, but just doing my job.

I know that Pratt is a Christian writer with a desire to bring his philosophies to his readers, but there is such a thing as trying too hard and I think that’s what happened here. There is much to be shared about the beautiful Wallawas in Oregon and it might have been better for him to concentrate his efforts, and his skills, into portraying that scenario more vividly. I know I would have enjoyed his book more.

I offer this rather harsh criticism with respect of Pratt’s effort, knowing his dedication to Christian principles and teachings. I also recognize the talent the author has in his mind and fingers. I will remain hopeful that his future books will lean more towards the practical aspects we all recognize and experience instead of drifting so heavily toward the pious and pontifical.

Great read!

I stumbled on Mr. Prayers first book by accident and really enjoyed his writing style. I related to his subjects and the communities he wrote about. Guess it was no surprise when I read he grew up in Dayton Oregon and I grew up about seven miles away in McMinnville Oregon. My family has been in this area since the Buel wagon train on one side and the Fur trappers on the other side. Among the fiction, there is a glimpse of truth of what this area was like in the late 1800's. Beautiful! Also, the tie back to one's faith. Our ancestors often only had their faith to keep putting one foot in front of the other and keep going. Please keep writing Mr. Pratt! Will start your 5th book in this series today and will be looking for more of your stories for future reading enjoyment.

RELIGION OVERDONE,

The book was very brutal and portrayed a man who had no reason to take his brutality on unsuspecting people. The preaching did nothing for him but make him more radical and bitter. Nothing could have turned him around. In that day AND age, religion was carried on by bigots and people of higher color. Aunt Jane was probably the only one that had true religion, but she kept to herself.

Good Suspenseful Western
Ken Pratt does a good job of creating authentically believable characters, some who will tug at your heart strings and others that will make you glad when they meet their violent end! Pratt also calls on his experience and pastoral training to help explain away some of the concerns we might have trying to live a Christian life in an in-Christian environment.

Adam and his uncle head to the mountains for their annual hunt to kill and smoke meat for the families. The Sperry-Helms gang is still on the loose and a few of the members want out. They hatch a plan to rob the bank in Loveland and blame it on the gang. Loveland has it's own problems with a serial killer. Miners are disappearing and being killed when they hit a load. Octavius is in the bank exchanging gold for cash, when it is robbed and he is knocked unconscious. He is forced to accept a posse to help him track the robbers. One of those is Nathan Pierce. His wife's father put a bounty on his head. The trail leads into the mountains right where Adam is.

A KP. Western Adventure (MBWB. - 4)/A Hunting Trip/A Wolf/ An Outlaw Gang/A Possee/The Fight

KP. has. penned the fourth novel of the Matt Bannister series, which begins with a hunt for a bear but ends up with a hint for a very large wolf. As the Bannister hunts for the wolf he crossed paths with a bank robbing gang followed by a possee. The hunter tries to stay clear but the gang opens fire at him and he become involved in the chase to recover the bank money. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS

His worst book. Could not have been proof read. The book wanders and includes long passages with little contribution to the first three Matt Bannister booksand has essentially no Bannister mention until the last few pages. Even then it worked in a previously unmentioned brother. It appears Ken Pratt grabbed a convoluted inprocess story and worked in Matt’s name to meet a schedule. From my perspective this book might be worth reading at 50 cents not $3.00. I may give him another chance or may not.

This book was very strange at the beginning. It seemed that everyone was killing everyone. I wondered if there was going to be a true protagonist? Just when I thought I knew, he'd wind up dead. I was disappointed that Matt Bannister wasn't physically involved throughout the story. Overall I didn't enjoy this book as well as others. I did enjoy Nathan and Sarah's story. 😐n I

I know I got this backwards. I rated two stars. I was disappointed in this story. I didn't like it as well as his others.

I finished reading book 4 of the series this afternoon and immediately went and downloaded the next 2 in the series. Ken Pratt has a way of incorporating Christianity in his stories that gets the message across without browbeating the reader. He lets the reader know that salvation is for everyone, even those who we sometimes are too willing to judge and condemn. He shows the reader how frequently we blame God for the sins of man. Bravo to this author! I have read long into the wee hours of the morning (5:30 am) not wanting to put the story down. I highly recommend this Christian author.

Matt Bannister Series

I've read the entire Matt Bannister series. Really enjoyed each and every story. Captivating characters. The thing I didn't like was the errors: ie: missing words, wrong word, words inserted where they didn't belong. Just too many mistakes. Hire a proof reader for Pete's sakes. If you can truge through the mistakes, you will enjoy a good read.

Excellent four star!

Ken Pratt is an excellent author. I have read several of his books and enjoyed reading them all. This is the longest one I have read and the most detailed. It should have been a five star with additional proof ing . Which I understand has been completed and the book is being reissued.

An exciting and uplifting adventure.

It's always wonderful to read a book filled with gripping adventure. It's even more wonderful to read such a book without explicit sex anf/or violence that has no other function than titillation. Thank you Mr Pratt for giving me a book that raises God up in no uncertain manner.

Good storyline and a wonderful way to work in Jesus

However, it seemed more like Physiology, 101. You could leave off all the explaining and get to the action. I don't know if I'll read another one. All the explaining is quite boring. I skipped more of the book than I read. Otherwise you re a good writer.

This is a wonderful Christian western with a whole lot of action from bank robbery and killing and hunting and more. The descriptions of scenery and action made me feel like I was there. I couldn't put it down. I received an arc for an honest review.

Western about people who knew Matt Bannister.

This was a good book but didn't have anything to do with Matt Bannister, the subject matter was harsh. However, it was a good story, just not to my taste.

So disappointed

I had read the three books before this one and enjoyed all three I was looking forward to the next one but there were too many characters and woods and mountains. I kept waiting for Matt to show up never once. I will not order the next one.

Not a bad book but could use one more pass by editor to correct spelling, run-on words, and disjoint sentences where words are missing.

All in all, this is a quality story in the Ken Pratt tradition and well worth the time to sit down and ready.

A great story teller who also became a gteat writer. When a reader finds it hard to put the book

down and looks up at the time and finds out it 3:AM in the morning and he has to get up for work at 6 AM, what does that tell you. THANK YOU

No profanity great read

Enjoyed this book almost as good as the first three. I would however offer one criticism. Get a better proof reader. I found the many many typos distracting and repeatedly backtracking to assure my understanding of text.

Not page-turner

For me, though it was a good book, I found myself unable to get engrossed in this Matt Bannister tale. It seemed to move slowly and did not hold my interest. Had to make an effort to finish.

Another great book

Elk, wolves, bank robbery and another chance at
Salvation. The books get better with each new story. As we meet Matt's family you see the problems of yesterday or the same we face today. Only at a much slower pace.

Editing

You need a better editor. Many words that didn't fit in the sentence and some missing words. I otherwise a good series.
