The biggest prank could be falling in love...In this San Francisco neighborhood, a kiss at sunset means you might find your true love. Two best friends are about to find out if the legend is real.Lt. firefighter Dylan Reyes believes the sunset kiss legend is nothing more than a tourist attraction. He's a big fan of exit plans, science and health insurance. But since the last time his best friend Charley was in the city, he hasn't stopped thinking about her naked. One night, and a realistic dream, changed everything. When Charley Young spreads the word that Dylan has kissed a woman at sunset and is now engaged, her prank sets off a sequence of events. Her intent was to keep single women away from the hunky firefighter, but it has other, far reaching consequences.Readers looking for a tender romance that leans more toward the emotional than the physical will find this very satisfying. Publishers Weekly on Country Gold.
Charley Young let the foster care system convince her that caring always led to loss. Nothing was permanent. Believing that she would lose Dylan’s friendship, she didn’t tell him how she felt about him. And she traveled so she was the one who left rather than someone she cared about leaving her. Dylan figured she would never be happy to stay in one place, as she is a traveling chef, so he kept pushing her away, putting her career first, so she would not give up her plans for him. So neither communicated how they felt about each other and accepted the loneliness.
But in this town, the legend says that a kiss at sunset means you might find your true love. And a year ago, Charley had sort of accidentally kissed Dylan. Is the legend actually true? Could something come of this? Or would Dylan have to show her another way to discover what they can have together?
This story line brings to mind my belief that a couple should never “assume” that the other person has magically read their mind and automatically knows how they feel. Direct communication in any relationship is what keeps it healthy. Silence is deadly – it can kill a relationship quickly or prevent one from ever starting, which easily could have occurred with Charley and Dylan. Will one of them speak up and get a relationship moving forward? Or will both let their misconceptions keep them apart?
I had trouble getting into this book because the heroine annoyed me from page one. Her friend Milly is pregnant and doesn't want the father to know, and Charley doesn't know who the father is and what the problem is. But she decides to go through Milly's contacts and tell a bunch of random men that they are going to be a father or steal their DNA because she thinks she knows what Milly needs better than Milly does. What an officious busybody. The hero Dylan tries to reason with her but she doesn't listen to reason. She is a foster child and traumatized about not having her parents around, but this goes way beyond daddy and momma issues to creepy obsession territory. And how for all she knows, the father could be an axe murderer and put Milly in danger. Meanwhile, Dylan is judgmental because his brother Joey is just a surfer and doesn't want to become a firefighter like Dylan, as if it's somehow a natural career path for absolutely everyone, and Dylan thinks this is evidence that Joey doesn't want to grow up.
It gets less annoying once the relationship between Charley and Dylan kicks off. Dylan and Charley have been friends for a long time. The book title refers to a local legend that if you kiss someone at sunset they will turn into your forever. Charley has kissed Dylan once, and it was intentional on her part although Dylan's opinion was not sought for as he was asleep at the time. So why she keeps thinking of it as an accidental kiss is beyond me. Perhaps just because she didn't think that it was sunset time. Dylan is attracted to her too but he has decided that love and relationships are not for him since his profession is risky and because he's expecting Charley to run across the world to chase her career dreams anyway.
Steam level: some sexual content. Point of view: Third person.
Charley is back home to helping her foster sister, Milly while she’s on bed rest. She’s been traveling the world as a sous chef & isn’t planning on sticking around any longer than she has to. She’s had to take over running the bakery for Molly & baking isn’t what she wants to do. It’s nice to catch up with Dylan in person instead of by text & phone.
Dylan has been Charley’s best friend since high school. He knows she won’t be satisfied to stay in town. She’s destined for bigger places. That’s why he won’t let his feelings for her to deepen. He won’t hold her back.
I really enjoyed reading this story. It’s witty, funny & emotional. Ms. Bell does an excellent job of developing characters that her readers can relate to & engage with. Charley was always afraid to trust in other people because of being put into foster care. She thought people always left. She recognized the love her foster mother felt for her too late & was always trying to make up for it. She didn’t tell Dylan how she felt because she was afraid to lose his friendship. Dylan kept putting her feelings ahead of his own. He didn’t think she’d be happy there so he kept pushing her to leave. I enjoyed the experience of watching Charley come to her conclusions & grow into her emotions.
Honestly, the story itself was… ok. It wasn’t the worst but it wasn’t particularly amazing. The romance kinda happened suddenly, not as organic as I’d like. And he was dead set on pranking her, even went on about his plans and then… nothing. Never did anything.
All this aside wouldn’t have made for a bad book, but the narrator for the audiobook was AWFUL. Like truly terrible. It sounded like she was whispering the whole time and she talked so slowly and even sped up the whispering narration made it hard to differentiate among characters.
Charley the wandering chef to be has her dreams. She wants to go to New Orleans and Paris just like Julia Childs. She has given up New Orleans to stay with her sister during her pregnancy. Her best friend since forever is Dylan. They are in constant contact whether she is near or far. Heatherly Bell is a great author. If you have not been following her and reading her books you should start now. Grab this one or any of her other books and read now!!!
entertaining, a small town who has Miracle Sunset Kiss...nice love angle. You have Dylan who doesn't believe in any of it...thinks it is just gimmick for tourists, then Charley who believes wholeheartedly on the Miracle Sunset Kiss and has based things she has done on it...then we have Millie...pregnant...no husband and sister to Charley..funny, good read....nice ending...quite believable story...you need to read it to find out the ending
This was a wonderful best friend’s falling in love story. Dylan and Charley had been best friend’s since high school but it never went any further because they didn’t want to ruin the friendship that they had and Charley always seemed to to want to leave when things felt too comfortable. I loved Milly, Charley’s pregnant sister, and Marco and Joe, Dylan’s brothers. They were great side characters that helped Dylan and Charley finally realize that what they were looking for was each other. I really liked Dylan and Charley as a couple. Charley wasn’t my favorite person at the beginning but she definitely grew on me as I read the book. I liked that Milly got her happy ending too.
The Accidental Kiss By: Heatherly Bell Narrated by: Kimberly Austin
This is a wonderful friends to lovers romance and I enjoyed every minute of the book. It is hard to believe this is my first book written by Heatherly Bell, she is a gifted author and I will definitely be checking out more of her books. She has a great writing style, the story grabbed my attention right from the start and captivated it straight to the end. The storylines and characters she created are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with. They also contain a whole lot of heart. I adored the two lead characters, Charley Young and Dylan Reyes, there were some great secondary characters as well including Charley’s sister, Milly. Dylan and Charley have been best friends, each secretly wanted it to be more but were afraid to take it to the next level. Dylan is a Lieutenant with the Fire Department and Charley an inspiring chef, it is her dream to learn from the best Chefs around, including Paris. When her sister was placed on bedrest for a high risk pregnancy she returns home to run the family bakery. She also takes it upon herself it upon herself to find her sister’s baby daddy, which Dylan objects to. I love how everything plays out in this book, the story is beautifully plotted with plenty of drama, a touch of angst, some great humor, lots of heartfelt and emotional moments and a slow burn friends to lovers romance. I highly recommend this book, there is a great balance of light-heartedness and some heavier real life situations, like what some foster children go through, the author does a great job covering the topic while keeping it real. Heatherly Bell thank you for the wonderful story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
I listened to the Audible edition, Kimberly Austin is a terrific narrator and voice artist. She does a great job portraying the characters, humanizing them, giving them their voices and personality. She sets the perfect tone for the story, captures the characters emotions and projects them into her performance. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the great listen🎧
Charlie and Dylan are best friends. But Charlie has been in love with him for years. Turns out Dylan loves her too but leaves her because he didn't want to hold her back. A brilliantly written best friends to lovers story with excellent characters and a happy ending guaranteed.
Whether you are a new reader or a faithful follower of this author’s works, and are looking for a sweet, and touching romance, this is the one for you. The story takes place In a small San Francisco neighborhood where the legend of the sunset kiss exists. If you are kissed on sunset on Miracle Day, you will have found love forever. The main characters Dylan Reyes and Charley Young have been best friends since their teen years. Now, thirteen years later, Dylan has followed his father’s steps, and is a lieutenant firefighter. Charley is a traveling sous chef that dreams of going to Paris and is always on the go. When her foster sister, Milly, needs her, she doesn’t hesitate to go back home. A home that Carol, Milly’s mother provided to a then rebellious fifteen year old. Could an accidental kiss be the trigger of a romance between Dylan and Charley or will the fears each one has, keep them apart? The plot is engaging and both the main and secondary characters are well developed. You will laugh, shed some tears and at times , what to shake them, but you will end up loving each and everyone of those you “ meet”. Well , maybe not Sean! I hope we’ll return to this neighborhood in the near future. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
The title of Heatherly Bell’s new romance includes a very appropriate subtitle, “A friends to lovers firefighter romance.” This subtitle perfectly describes the theme of this book.
This story takes place in a small San Francisco town. The town has a legend that is an integral part of this story. The townspeople believe that anyone who kisses someone at sunset on Miracle Bay will have found “true love.” In fact, every year, in the middle of July, the town holds a three day celebration which they call “kiss hello to summer.”
Lieutenant firefighter Dylan Reyes and Charley Young have been best friends since they were kids. Their friendship has never crossed the boundary into attraction - until recently. Of course, this change of events happens to be during the three day “kiss hello to summer” celebration.
Charley is a wannabe chef who was raised by her single, alcoholic mother. When Charley was very young, she was removed from her mother and placed in foster care where was constantly moved from home to home.
Even though Charley was finally placed in a loving home, the damage had already been done. Because of this, she has chosen to spend her adult life travelling all over the world in search of “something” to make her life worthwhile.
Dylan’s was raised by his widowed mother who was forced to take in boarders to make a living. Even though it was a loving home, Dylan learned that “everything and everyone other than family was transient.”
I loved reading about the growing romance between these two damaged people as they attempt to move from friends to lovers. I especially like that their friendship remains strong as they work to discover their feelings for each other. Ms. Bell makes certain that their trust for each other remains intact throughout the book.
Charley is back in Miracle Bay to take care of her very pregnant foster sister Milly. She is a traveling chef and finally she is back in town taking care of her sister and the bakery. She never thought she would be back baking in the bakery where everything started for her. Not only Charley is back in town, she was working at the bakery again. Dylan heard Charley was back in town, until he came into the store. They have been friends since high school and they really rely on each other but Dylan knew she didn't want to stay in Miracle bay forever and he couldn't convince her to stay. Now Charley is back and it was awkward at first but they were back to how they were. While they are back to being friends, both were hiding their feelings until they decided to give it a try and see where it goes. But Charley has been keeping a secret from Dylan. There is a legend in Miracle bay, when you kiss at sunset, you will have found your forever love. She accidentally kissed him but he didn't know or did he know?... It was really cute friends to lover. I did really liked all the characters from this book. Dylan and Charley was really cute together and it really was fun until the end. I hope there is another story about Dylan's brothers.
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
I received a copy from Hidden Gems; this is my honest review. -First time reading a book from this author. Probably not the last one either. -The romance between Dyland and Charley is okay. The scenes are open doors but with not much details, which is also okay. The end was hurried and sudden. -There's isn't much descriptions as Charley mostly lives in her apartment and the bakery. But you do get particulars about the patrons, friends and family and that's interesting. -I thought Millie could have been a little more understanding with Charley's need to tell the father. Yes, it wasn't her story to tell but Millie should have considered how it would affect her own baby, since the need was so strong with Charley to know her own father and she didn't get to. -I also thought the relationship between Charlie and Millie wasn't healthy. "She needs me" is not healthy when you have to put your own life (and dreams) on hold and the other one is too scatterbrained to take care of herself. -I liked the relationship between the three brothers and their mother/grandmother. The mother was funny with her matchmaking but I'm glad I'm not around her.
Love a sweet romance with a side kick of reality than this is for you. Charley once a foster care kid has grown up to become a sous chef. With wings on her feet trying to better herself and leave the past behind. When her foster sister Milly calls because she needs help after being placed on bed rest Charley returns home. Hooking back up with her BFF whose she been in love with forever but always remaining in the friend's zone takes turn when one stolen kiss a year ago becomes real. The myth that a kiss at sunset you'll find your true love has been put on a back burner. When Charley takes it upon herself to find the father t o Milly's baby (bean) all hell breaks loose. Old feelings of not being enough, always wanting to be somewhere else, the truth, all arise as the showdown of what's more important as Charley takes that leap of faith into the unknown. Get caught up in this page turner that will have you laughing one moment and emotional the next.
This read ha it all; feels, humor, sexy hotties, sisterly love and spats and steaminess! I would but this in a coming of age type of story- Charley has been the adventurous one, out seeing the world in her job of sous chef but when her sister needs her help she comes home. Wanderlust is still pulling at her but when her feelings for her bestie, Dylan come into focus her thoughts are warring within her. Between trying to arrange her sister's life (both are control freaks), running her family's bakery and juggling Dylan and their heat it makes this an interesting story.
Another late night of reading to finish this story, which I found cute and entertaining. Friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes and it did not disappoint. The characters were quirky and decently developed, and had a natural and realistic evolution towards the end. The only thing that could have been developed a little better is some more details about their past and friendship. Overall, an enjoyable story that I look forward to more in the series. *I received an ARC of this book from Hidden Gems and this is my voluntary and honest review.
According to legend, if you kiss at sunset, you will have found your forever love. What if the kiss was not mutual and unrealized by one of the parties? In this case, it takes a year to find out. Good friends for years, afraid to move past the friend zone for fear of losing each other. What will it take to make them realize just what kind of relationship they can have if they listen to their hearts? Loved the quotes at the start of each chapter. Thoroughly enjoyed this book. I received an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
I enjoyed these characters very much. Dylan and Charley have a long history of friendship, but they both know that something is changing between them. Charley thinks that it is because she accidentally kissed Dylan at sunset the year before, and that is supposed to guarantee your true love in their area. The situation is much more complicated than that, of course. I enjoyed their banter and emotion. I also liked the secondary characters and hope we get to see more of them in the future. I have also listened to the audiobook of this and thought that the narrator did a good job.
Best friends to lovers romances are my favorites, not counting all the heartache they always seem to put themselves through thinking it’s gotta be a bad idea. These two are no different, but with all the towns superstitions about the sunset kiss, things are made even more difficult. I loved this story and hope to see more from this author. I’m voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book from Hidden Gems.
Charley and Dylan had been best friends since they were fifteen. But now that Charley is back in Miracle Bay to help her foster sister, the attraction between them is very strong. But Charley is always leaving to pursue her dream of becoming a great chef and Dylan has a solid work as firefighter. Can they have a chance at love thanks to Charlie’s stolen kiss to Dylan at sunset some time ago? I received a free copy of this book and I voluntarily review it.
The Accidental Kiss: I loved that it's friends to Lovers story. I liked how Dylan and Charley stepped around the sparks between each other. I liked that Charley came home to help Milly and was able to spend more time with Dylan inbetween his shifts at the fire house and her shifts at the bakery. It was a wonderful story and a hot romance. I loved all the characters.
This was exactly the kind of book I was in the mood for. I had read too many books in a row that the characters were to cliche and unrealistic. But this had just enough charm to be a enjoyable read without sacrificing the story. It moved at a good pace and didn't have too many secondary characters that you couldn't keep up.
Another great book by Heatherly Bell! Charley is in love with Dylan. She kisses him at sunset, but he was asleep. She never tells him. The tale is that when you kiss at sunset, in Miracle Bay you will find true love. Does an accidental kiss at sunset mean true love?
Haha..At the beginning of this book I was like man this chick is crazy. I get looking out for your sister/best friend but wow. I’m extremely glad I continued the story though. I ended up really liking Charley. Charley and Dylan’s story is a fun and sweet friends to lovers romance.
Thank you for such an amazing story, getting to know the people enjoying their life you become one with the book. I loved it. I can't wait for your next thank you. 👍🏆📚🌟❤️🤗🌷
Sweet. Fun. Well written. Great characters. Paced well. The whole sunset kiss thing was a bit cheesy, but a good plot device. I really enjoyed it. Will have to check out more books by this author.
I adored the H and the h. Both had strong family ties and a 13 year friendship as a foundation for their love story. I would have given 5 stars but there were just so many typos.
