World War II is arguably, one of the darkest times in human history. The holocaust saw an attempt to eradicate an entire ethnic race of people. Human experimentation by the Third Reich saw monsters and horrors unspeakable.
To combat those atrocities, a wonderous group of heroes... both super powered and otherwise... rose up to battle against those forces of evil. But the most insidious and horrible of the experimentation was done under the auspices of the secret INVICTUS program. Experimentation upon the orphans who remained behind the devastating loss of their parents. A long term plan to create the Nazi's goal of creating their long sought after "UBERMENSCH". It was the birth of the children of those original orphans that bore the fruits of the insidious program. That new generation began to present incredible powers. They were soon to become know as the INVICTA.
It's now almost 40 years later and those Invicta have reach their adulthood. Some turning their powers to good, others to evil. To combat those who have chosen the dark, the organization known as the KNIGHTWATCH is established. Heroes, both natural and enhanced, some Invicta themselves, fight together to battle those who chose not so wisely. Incredibly, the core of this new organization is Peter Ward - known as the Scarab - who has fought the good fight from the 40s until this day. Along with a collection of heroes, some the descendants of those he originally fought beside decades ago, some new to the fight, face the task of saving the world...or the end of it.
Mark Ellis has been writing for over 30 years and includes both comics and novels as his play ground. His love of comics has driven him to create this homage to those long forgotten heroes from the golden age of comics including the Scarab, Magno, Kismet, the Lynx, and Samson. Updating and refreshing the past, he turns his amazing talents to a new story and, hopefully, a potential series of books. Using both his history and experience writing and scripting comics, and his prodigious crafting of novels, Mark has produced an exciting and wonderful new world that, I'm sure, long time comic book fans, as well as his fans from the post apocalyptic OUTLANDERS and DEATHLANDS series of novels (writing as James Axler) as well as his stand alone CRYPTOZOICA among others, will love and treasure.
To add to the fun, Mark has included several EASTER eggs directly related to comic history. See if you can find them all.
I particularly loved the fact that this book, as it is an homage, to those heroes of long ago, is published in a size and format that closely matches the look and feel of those comics in size and cover illustration.

Superb story by a master scribe
Mark Ellis has written for decades now and homes his craft to perfection before publishing Knightwatch. A superb new entry into super powered fiction as a genre.
