This book is jam packed full of useful information. I found the chapter on new trends in real estate investing to be very insightful. I would highly recommend this book to a person interested in building a real estate investment portfolio.
This book offers a lot more than what its title suggests. It goes over all kinds of real estate investments, from the traditional buy-n-hold and fix-n-flip to advanced investment channels that might only be accessible to sophisticated and deep-pocket investors, in a comprehensive way.
You won't become an investor just by reading this book, but you will definitely have a great ideas of what options are available and where to learn more about them.
I was excited to read real estate investing 101. Real estate is one of m interests. I suppose that is obvious otherwise I would have never read the book.
I liked that it was not over loaded with technical language so it was not hard to read. I thought it was informative.
Even thought I watched some flipping shows on television. I don't think I ever want to flip houses. I do like the idea of fixing up a house that is in disrepair and selling it for a person to live in.
I have read some other real estate books. And if I remember right they focused on buying foreclosures, buying rental properties. You know buying physical property. So I was unaware that there were such tings as real estate investment trusts or index funds, or mutual funds that invested in real estate.
My favorite chapter was the one about investing in foreign real estate. I don't remember any of the other real estate books I have read talking about investing in foreign real estate. So I like that real estate 101 talked about that.
I think this book was well worth the time it took me to read it. I only wish I could remember all the information in the book. I enjoyed it.
Interested in investing in real estate? Or are you an autodidact who simply yearns for a new subject to expand their breadth and depth of knowledge? Either way this book is wonderful. Much like the “Idiot’s Guides” or “For Dummies” books Real Estate Investing 101 does a fantastic job of breaking down what could be daunting and complex subjects into simple and easy to understand concepts. For subjects that start to become a little too complex (yay, I love diving into the intricacies of taxes! Said nobody ever) the author provides basic real world type scenarios to illustrate the point. As someone who has a silly ambition to own both an apartment complex and an upscale hotel one day I found reading this book imbued me with a renewed sense of confidence. Would achieving such a lofty real estate goal be easy? Not at all. However nothing worth having or doing has ever been easy. I don’t, however, feel it’s insurmountable the same way I might have prior to picking this book up. So whether you’re seriously considering real estate investing or are simply curious about the subject, this is a great place to start learning.
This book was helpful to me as a beginner to the subject, as it covers a lot of ground and provides readers with the resources to delve deeper into any topic. Going through it gave me a good sense of which investment types I should avoid and which ones might be suitable for my situation. I also really appreciated that the author didn't pad out the book with gimmicks, jokes, and obvious filler; it's packed full of relevant information from beginning to end.
The structure was a bit confusing to me, and I think there were some issues with shaping the book: for example, there was a decent amount of repetition that didn't seem intentional. But overall it's still a great starting point for would-be real estate investors, and a book that doesn't waste the reader's time.
A lot of parts are very informative and helpful, but I found that it contains a lot of jargon terms and phrases, making it a bit more difficult than it has to be. Some of the info is redundant, and the author keeps mentioning that the reader should trust a financial professional. I agree with that but I feel like a one-page disclaimer explaining why that’s important, placed before the contents page, would be enough for that. I don’t think the book is simplified enough and I wouldn’t recommend it as a beginner’s book. It still had a lot of useful info though.
Really good preview into the REI world. It’s a good start to figure out where to go next, essentially giving and overview on lots without getting into crazy details. I would recommend to those who know nothing about real estate investing and need a place to start. It’ll definitely be a reference book as I move forward.
Sometimes books like these are hard to read and are setup like school textbooks, but not this book, it was very enjoyable to read as a matter of fact, and I learned a whole hell of a lot in a very short period of time.
If you're interested in possibly getting started in the real estate game, I highly recommend that you pick up a copy.
There were parts of the book which didn’t interest me much on a full read through, but it was great to answer some specific questions I had. Useful as a reference guide for those new to real estate investing.
Not going to rate this as I didn't *technically* read it all, really just the portions pertaining to what I need. It's a nice, informative book though that makes a great jumping off point to more research.
As the title suggests, it a 101 beginner book. The book provides an excellent base of content for people riding the fence on whether to get involved in real estate.
I am excited to read this book. It is a great fit for ABC Book Club, and it engages well with Real Estate Geek Squad. Check back for updates, or better yet read along with Alpha Book Club.
Great foundational knowledge for Real Estate Investment. Real Estate investing is now 100% in my scope after I get a few years of business industry experience and savings under my belt.
This book grew on me as I got further in. It's exactly what it claims to be--a primer on a wide variety of REI topics. Though I've been researching REI for a while now, this book taught me a few things and introduced some topics that need more of my attention. I'm a slow reader, and it still took me only about 48 hours to get through this.
Mostly USA real Estate cantered book. Some concepts are generally applicable, Tax laws and benefits need a bit more specifics. Some context is repetitive. Doesn’t goes into specifics about what and where to check during house inspection. Nothing on farmland. Somewhat focused on indirect investing like RITES, MF’s, etc.
I was surprised to learn a few things from this real estate investing book and I have been doing this for 20+ years? "Crowdfunding" real estate? Who knew? Great for beginners to bring you up to speed immediately.
