Josie Jackson is whisked further into the past, to the era of Vikings and the (almost) eternal winters of Norway. Carter, the mastermind behind her foray through time, reveals that she’ll be remaining there for six years – assuming she survives the first winter. To complicate matters, Josie has an unexpected health condition, one that threatens her life more than the frigid cold, Viking raids and wild animals.
After un-creating Taylor and leaving Batu in the Mongol era, Josie wants nothing to do with any other man, especially not the Viking warrior she’s engaged to shortly after dropped into a fjord in front of his village. Not everyone is as he seems in this era, from her reluctant new husband, to the mystic – scorned by the rest of the village – whose futuristic visions are too accurate to be divine, to Carter, the evil genius who’s tormented her through three eras of history.
When she finally learns the truth behind why he chose her, she understands too well what the stakes of this game really are.
I breathe stories. I dream them. If it were possible, I'd eat them, too. (I'm pretty sure they'd taste like cotton candy.) I can't escape them - they're everywhere! Which is why I write! I was born to bring the crazy worlds and people in my mind to life, and I love sharing them with as many people as I can.
I'm also the bestselling, award winning, internationally acclaimed author of over sixty titles and counting. I write speculative fiction in multiple subgenres of romance and fantasy, contemporary fiction, books for both teens and adults, and just about anything else I feel like writing. I’ve been eagerly awaiting this book for what seems like forever. I get that life happens, but it doesn’t mean I don’t obsess less. This is easily one of my favorites of her other series as time travel is one of my fav genres to read. I knew that Carter had a connection … but I didn’t fully expect what connection there was. If I had thought the Mongols were an interesting setting the Viking village was even more so. One of the things I most liked was how she explained the day to day life of the people of the time and what limitations that she was stuck with because she was used to a totally different life. I was so waiting for her to be reunited with her love, but I also dreaded it since it had to be the sign that she would be moving along again. The end of this book has me practically on tenterhooks in waiting for the next one … that I guess won’t come out until next year. At least I can do my compulsive re-reading of the other books in the series some more in the meantime.
Lizzy Ford's done it again! ♥ I sat down to read this book last night and couldn't put it down until I'd finished it.
The pace, tension, and nonstop action kept me glued to the page and huddled under my covers (I was worried my cat might come attack my foot at the worst possible moment, and was terrified with no tall tree to hide in. lol).
The biggest difference between this book and the others is Josie's character change. She's changing to adapt to her surroundings to protect those who are precious to her, instead of relying on a man/husband to protect her.
Carter, the evil genius who's been throwing her around in time, is as infuriating as ever. However, this is the first time I made a prediction about his character, and I'm excited to say, "I KNEW IT!" Love the kink Lizzy threw in at the end, adding to the tension. Readers are going to flip out over this, especially since she leaves you you hanging.
Even with the mini cliff-hanger at the end, the conflict of this particular story in the series is met by the ending. The book is well written and characters are well developed. Lizzy Ford's writing style is one of my all-time favorites, and the book covers for all three of the History Interrupted series are beautiful.
This has become a series I impatiently anticipate release dates of. Grab a copy of these three books immediately and get on the Lizzy Ford crazy fan train with me! I'm obsessed with all her books. She's fantastic.

I think this is the best in the series so far, even if it ends on a cliffhanger.... again. But what an end, I literally jump up and yelled WHAT??? when she comes face to face with her tormentor, who I got to hate as much as she did and it is revealed who it is really. What an epic story this is, the few years spent among the Vikings, her unexpected discovery when she arrives there. Loved how she becomes stronger and more sure of herself, she survives some harrowing events, all because she has no choice really. Being a Mother too, I understand her resolve to do anything to protect. I was so happy when Batu found her again, but it is not to be ... again as she is whisked out of that time and placed in another. I hope SOUTH is coming out soon in audio because I have to know what happens next! I need to know WHY! - 5 stars Ms. Yves comes a long way from the first book, her voice is perfect for Josie. No 'male' voices, yet all the characters are distinguishable with distinctive voice. Well done. I really enjoyed how she was able to tell the story and having it played in my mind so vividly. - 5 stars
I was up late reading this one because I couldn't bear to put it down - Josie is one of my all time favourite characters and I had to check in on her after the heartbreak of the last book.
She's learnt some major lessons after her past two trips through time, she's a little older and wiser now, and prepared to do whatever it takes to survive in her new home. The past two books in this series have been brilliant standalones but the cliffhanger to this book is even more shocking than the previous ones and makes me anxious to get my paws on the next book! Some of the loose ends from the previous book are tied up while we're served up some more mysteries and surprises.
This story is mostly about the harsh realities of a 21st century woman trying to survive a Norwegian winter during the Viking age rather than a journey, but the suspense that Ford creates is still incredibly strong.
When I started this book I was emotionally drained. I am not a big fan of series because usually after the first or second book, it goes downhill fast. These books were an amazing surprise. When this one started I was angry and sad. I didn't want Josie to be where she was. It was just wrong and I probably hated Carter as much as Josie did. But I kept reading and just....wow. What a story! The characters are wonderful and toward the end (I will try no to give it all away), I knew what was coming and I may or may not have been throwing a small fit and crying again. And then the ending!!! I was shocked and happy and sad all at once. Now I am stuck waiting until the last one comes out this year. Maybe it won't be long. :)
Outstanding! What a story! What an amazingly unexpected climax! Lizzy Ford, you astound me! Lillian Yves, your voice-acting in the audio version is amazing! I loved this story from beginning to end and cannot imagine what the fourth one will be about. Each of the first three stories has held me enthralled and kept me there - as if I were in the tale experiencing it for myself. If you have taken the time to read my review/s, then do yourself a favor and read or listen to these stories. Believe me, it is worth the effort! I listened to an audiobook version supplied by the narrator and this is my voluntary and unbiased review of it.
This series continues to surprise me. I'm reminded again and again why I live this author so much.
With each journey Josie takes she learns more and more about herself and the world's she's dropped into. It's been amazing watching her learn and grow, to accept and change. Each new era with whole new sets of dangers that she must overcome.
Being that it IS a connected series, this one will leave you on one hellofa spine tingling cliffhanger!
As always, this narrator is PERFECT for this series and brings the book to life in vivid detail
I listened to the audible version of the story and the narrator did a great job. I wanted to hate Carter so much, but with a cliffhanger ending like this one I can't. I'm not sure how to feel about him anymore. Not only did the ending of this one take me by surprise but it left me speechless. I can't wait for the next book only to see how everything comes full circle because there has to be another book. Just when I thought Josie would get her HEA with Batu, we were thrown another curveball. I'm looking forward to the next book.
It's hard to pick which of Ford's books is my favorite, but this book was definitely worth the wait. While I wish we had more time with a certain character toward the end (no spoilers! And yes, I feel robbed), I hope the next and final installment in this series will be just as amazing as the rest of the books. I did not see the end coming, but it was beautiful! Please release the next book soon!
I didn't like it. Something was missing from the story. Too many details about Josie's life in the Viking Era. Missing links. Strange ending. Unconvincing. I mean, she meets B again and they don't even kiss, or hug at least?? They don't have a decent conversation?? I was disappointed. It left me cold, I wanted to quit..... Hmmm, book 4 had better be the best of all! I wish I could give it more stars......Book 2 was by far my favourite!

North by Lizzy Ford Poor Josie! A lesser character would have given up two books ago. Anyway, North is a terrific book. I always want more from Ford and I really love this time traveling. In this one, most of what is going on with Josie is internal, so there are a lot of narrative struggles. The descriptions are very detailed so it was easy to create a visual picture and get sucked right in.
AGAIN LIZZY FORD HAS DONE IT AGAIN!! Another GREAT HIT ON HER HANDS. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE BOOK "SOUTH" COMES OUT. I can't say enough good about this book, heck about this whole series. It's the BOMB!! Once you start reading this series you can't put it down until your finished with the whole series. It has you laughing one minute and then crying the next. It puts you on pins and needles. Hot and Sexy. You will ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!
I admit this was not the way Josie explored the Viking culture in my mind. Like Diedre's Death, I wax ready to lead the Lizzy Ford lynch mob. You totally hit the series out of the ball park with the unexpected Darkyn's Mate. As with other series, I am counting down the moths until South is released.
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK WAS THAT END AND WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS SERIESSSSSSSSS....?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
ULF IS CRAZY, HE COULD HAVE JUST KEPT JOSIE IN THE VIKING ERA. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT HAPPENED. OR THE MONGOL ERA, WHERE HE WOULD HAVE BEEN BORN ANYWAYS.
THAT'S WHY CARTER WAS SOCIALLY AWKWARD BUT A GENUIS...OMG I NEED TO READ THE NEXT BOOK NOW
North went south for me but still liked the series.
After reading all 3 books and realizing that many things are left hanging and no future book! I am disappointed in this series. Good reads, no doubt, but really no closure? Just more questions and loss. Oh well live & learn. Recommend writer tho! Has great stories in her head.😀
I waited for years for North. Lizzy Ford has written a series that takes so many turns that the ending surprised me. It's a very fast read but worth the time. Please don't take as long as it did to finish South. Love love love.
Oh my God!!! Climax was a real twister. Can't say I did not see it coming though. Would've given it a 5 star were it not a bit dragging at some points. I was a little disappointed when it ended and getting a bit restless for its fourth installment. Please hurry!!!
Rollercoaster of emotions and events. Never see the twists in the plot coming, the depth of the characters sharing their story through tragedy, triumph, pain and joy. Lizzy's skills at story telling do not disappoint.
I didn't like this one as much as the first two, but it still was pretty good. There wasn't quite enough action for my taste. That being said, this is a good series and I am looking forward to the next book . 3.5
4.5 stars ✨ Not so impressing as the first two books, and a bit depressing, but still fully enjoyable 🙂 After I finished reading it, I walked around feeling lost, just can’t believe the story is over... I need more of Josie! 😭
I loved the viking theme of this novel. I had a feeling that once she was pregnant, I knew who Carter truly was and why he was doing this. I loved the ending!! It still got me!
First of all I hope you have read the first 2 books. I loved this book just as much as the first 2. The people she meets and the fact at the end is the twist. A must read
Read this book in one day, so ,so good. Where is book four? Should be out by now, totally shocked at the ending, did not expect That. Need South please.
