There were so many things that were wrong for me with this book. I really should have written the review before I went to sleep, while it was all clear in my head, but I didn't,so this is probably going to be a bit rambling, hitting only the bullet points of what annoyed me.
Parker is a typical poor little rich boy. He talks about how money doesn't buy happiness, and how much responsibility it is to be born rich, old money rich. All while driving a BMW, and living in a freaking six bedroom, three and a half bath penthouse in Manhattan. Excuse me while I hunt my sympathy for this guy. He seems to have walked away from being a lawyer in the family business, and is now an Academy Award winning actor.
Chance is his total opposite- born to a prostitute mother who gave him to his john dad to raise. (don't ask how a prostitute knew WHICH john was her baby daddy, that was never explained). Daddy john is a drunk, so Chance ends up in foster care, where he is sexually abused (raped) by a foster brother until he runs away at 17. He later joins the Army, before becoming an Academy Award winning actor.
Next to nothing is told about how all this came about. What finally drove Parker to leave the family business, and getting work as an actor. Or how Chance came to be an actor. They just are. I also have no idea how old these guys are, or really anything other than what I've written here.
The stories are told in alternating POVs, and thank goodness the author put the character's names in bold when the POV switched, because their voices were identical. I caught myself having to switch back several times, because I was confused about whose head I was in. The only difference, really, was Chance and his many nicknames for Parker, and Parker's inner angst over kissing a guy.
You see, these guys come together for the roles of a lifetime- two characters in a movie who are gay and fall for each other. Chance is all for it, in spite of only being with one man- the guy who raped him as a teen (seriously, he says it like that- I've been with one man. It was years ago. It wasn't voluntary). Parker is very scared and wary of kissing another guy, so much so that I don't even get why he took the part. And then he is very upset about liking kissing Chance.
The sex was.....I dunno. Parts of it were hot, but it was totally unbelievable. Two guys, with no real experience being with another man (sorry, Chance, being raped as a child doesn't count), and yet they both suck dick and swallow like experienced porn stars, and when it happens, they both bottom like champs.
Then at the very end, Parker makes this grand gesture, that involves a red carpet reception (for an agent's assistant?), where Parker manages to get Bruno Mars, Channing Tatum, freaking MERYL STREEP involved in dancing around like morons. Silly, oh so silly.
I know there was more about this book that bugged me, but I think I've caught the most major things, so I'll just say that I really can't recommend it. I love a double gay for you story, but this one just didn't ring true, at all.
