This handwritten story portrays an incredible true story of strength and courage as a young woman struggles to re-define herself after the death of her mother and remarriage of her father. Alone and isolated in the mountains of southern France with two young children, no phone, television, or transportation . . . “I was sure my sanity was finally coming to an end. I was a person in exile.” Yet, it is under these circumstances that she must face the most difficult decision of her life. The author details her life from her earliest memories growing up on a farm in central France until her courageous start of a new life in the States. This story whisks you back to 1940’s France. It’s rare that I get so engrossed in a story that I feel as if I’m actually there. The author does an incredible job of portraying local sentiments experienced during the German occupancy of France during World War II and the re-constructive years that followed.
