Scarlett Hunter grew up knowing her mission in life: to kill monsters, protect the innocent, and one day follow in her grandmother’s footsteps as the leader of her family’s coven. So when her prettier, smarter, tougher cousin is given the leadership of the Crimson Daggers, Scarlett no longer knows how she fits into her world.
Until, that is, a pack of werewolves kidnaps her grandmother. Now Scarlett has the chance to save her family and kick some Big Bad Wolf ass. But blood ties can’t always be trusted, and monsters aren’t always what they seem.
Dagger is the first book in a new urban fantasy trilogy set in Emma Savant’s larger Glimmers universe. If you’re looking for magic, werewolves, and a kickass heroine who knows how to get things done, scroll up and grab your copy today!
I was intrigued by the idea of a little red riding retelling, and this book more than satisfied my curiosity. Although Scarlett is dealing with her own disappointment at being passed over for her cousin as the next stiletto, she does her best to be a dutiful dagger- until a handsome stranger or two shake things up in her world. A good read from start to finish, I can’t wait to read more from this author!
I enjoyed this book. It had great balance throughout the book. I have not read any of the Glimmer World books but this novel had enough backstory and world building that it did not matter. The plot was interesting and a good spin on the paranormal world. I loved the main character Scarlett. She was a real person who acted like a young adult. She wasn't perfect, she had flaws and she showed the necessary growth for the novel. Her grandma, Nelly, was interesting and I felt we got a good read on her. The two male side characters were fun and well rounded. The rest of the character could have used more description and personality but most of them were background characters. I do wish her cousin Sienna was given more book time. She was a little too stereotypical, especially by the end. If the author's other books are as much fun, I want to check them out. I definitely recommend and I can't wait to read the next in the series.
This Red Riding Hood (Scarlett) can fight, use magic and drive a motorcycle. Although Grandma Nelly gets kidnapped by a pack of werewolves she's neither weak, nor helpless. I really like Grandma Nelly! To begin with I had a harder time with Scarlett, who's impulsive and not always thinking ahead, but she grows on me. It's an interesting retelling of Little Red Riding Hood!
The book contains quite a lot of fashion, since Grandma is the leader of a fashion house. I'm not that interested in fashion, I find it a bit shallow, but that's my own, personal opinion. If you like it, I'm sure you'll enjoy those parts more than I did.
At the end I almost couldn't turn the pages quick enough. Some unexpected things happened and now I want to read more about Scarlett and the Crimson Daggers!
I received this book from the author, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to read it.
This first book in the Crimson Daggers series was a great story, and a really interesting twist on the Little Red Riding Hood tale. Not having read any previous stories by this author, I initially found myself a little bit confused by some references (eg Glimmering and Humdrum - the names she uses for supernatural and human respectively) but quickly caught on and found myself thoroughly engrossed in the book; if it wasn't for previous engagements, I'd have read it all in one sitting, I enjoyed it so much! I was also VERY impressed by the sheer magnitude of different words she found for the colour red!! I'd definitely recommend this book to other lovers of supernatural stories and fairytale retellings with kicka*$ women, and I'm really looking forward to reading more by this author in future. NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions
Dagger (A Crimson Daggers Novel #1: Little Red Riding Hood) by Emma Savant is a wonderful story that I read. This is a wonderful story writen by a brand new author that I read and it is a wonderful start to a brand new series that I fell in love with by reading this story. I highly recommend this story to everyone that loves reading about magic and werewolves as much as I do . I can not wait to read the next book in this series.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I didn't exptect this book to be this good, so I was delightfully surprised.
The protagonist, Scarlett, is resilient and hard-working, even if her struggle doesn't always make her succeed. She works as a Dagger, a monster hunter descended from the woman known as Red Riding Hood, and at the same time as assistant to her grandmother in her fashion business called Carnelian.
The plot was linear and didn't have any unnecessary fillers, with some low twists and an antagonist that isn't revealed right away.
Dagger was a good read. I loved Scarlet and thought her insecurities only made her stronger in the end. Grandma Nelly was a good character and I liked her spunk. Brendan and Alec were interesting and I'm looking forward to see where the story goes in book 2. I'm not that sure about Sienna, her actions stunned me and I believe she will be causing more trouble down the road.
I give Dagger 4 stars for its interesting read. I would recommend this book to Fantasy Fans.
I came across this book while looking for inspiration for a cosplay look for an event. I thoroughly enjoyed this new to me world and Scarlett gave me great ideas about being a kickass Dagger. I can't wait to read the next two books. If you're in the mood for a strong female lead that sometimes makes mistakes but does the best she can, I recommend this book.
I am a big supernatural fan, but I have never come across a book that mixes supernatural and fashion. What a great story, and Scarlett’s a great character. She is loyal, determined and a little awkward. All of that made me care so much for her and her story. This was a great read and a true page turner.
The book cover looked awesome and the story summary sounded my kind of book but this was a hard read for me. Two words to sum up this book: boring with no romance. The writing style was written in narrative and telling style. I couldn't connect with the characters and didn't care for the weak/insecure mc. I passed on this series.
This was a very interesting new take in Red Riding Hood, combined with witches and werewolves! I really enjoyed reading it and could not put it down until I was finished!! I can not wait for the next book in this series! I highly recommend this book, so good!!
I received the book in exchange for my honest review. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and did not want to put it down. Scarlett is easy to get behind and cheer for, as is Brendan. I eagerly await the next book to see how Scarlett can keep her firey temper and impulsiveness in check.
What a great look at a new world. I enjoyed getting to know Scarlett. The action in this book will keep your interest and the humor will keep you entertained, can’t wait to see where this series goes. I received a free ARC for an honest review of this book.
I really enjoyed this story!! This was my first book by this author and I was excited to read it when I saw the blurb. Scarlett is trying to fit into the Daggers, while dealing with not living up to her families expectations. Little does she know, things she has no idea about are coming to a head, and she’s the one who will figure things out. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
This was a fun read. Scarlett is a great character who is perfectly flawed and appropriately behaved for a young adult. I enjoyed this and look forward to the next one already.
This was my first read from this author and I enjoyed it very much. I really liked Scarlett. I would definitely be reading the other books in the series.
Ms. Savant writes a very exciting story. Don't start reading before bedtime, you won't get any sleep.
This is a very creative tale and a unique take on the red riding hood story.
There are a few elements which I personally didn't care for, though it may not effect others enjoyment of the story. There is a character introduced early on who, though may not be a bully in the classic sense, is a bully in my eyes. And I HATE bullies. I really have a problem reading stories with bullies in them unless the protagonist can nullify the bully at every turn.
Also, I'm afraid I'm a bit of a grammar nazi. And Ms. Savant is in desperate need of better proofreaders. The errors aren't overwhelming. You can definitely fill in the dropped or incorrect word(s) & get what she means. They were jut a few more than I care to deal with.
That said. If you don't have my hangups about bullies or grammar, I think you may really enjoy this book.

As an advanced reader of this new and upcoming book I am giving my honest review.
I found this story to be a refreshing view of something old. The characters were given a whole new interesting twist and the story moved along at a great pace, keeping me from losing interest.
I think most of us feel like the main character in this book and to grow with her through the book was the best part for me. All supporting characters had good depth and great placement. Story space wasn’t wasted with needless filler.
Will be looking forward to more from this series and from this author.
This engaging YA novel is part fairy-tale, part paranormal adventure, and part sorority drama. Scarlett lives with the other Crimson Daggers - women who are raised and trained to enforce law and order in the Glimmering world. This being a variation of Little Red Riding Hood, there is naturally a wolf, but is he a sheep in wolf's clothing? Supporting characters include Scarlet's fiesty Grandma, a fashion designer for the Faerie world, and loner Alec. Scarlett struggles to find her role within the Daggers while simultaneously navigating the standard teen issues of peer pressure and dating. Savant has started her new series with a fresh take on old themes that works well for modern teens looking for a heroine who doesn't shrink from challenges. I reviewed this book from an ARC which did not affect my opinion.
