Healthy Sleep Study

For those who suffer or know of someone who suffers from loud snoring, abnormal sleepiness during the day, morning headaches, teeth grinding, dry mouth, etc., this primer on TMJ and sleep disorders may provide a much needed solution or point the sufferer in the right direction.

Through the identification of such symptoms as pain when chewing, popping sounds in the jaw, the grinding of teeth, having difficulty opening one's mouth, frequent migraines, pain in the facial area or even pain in the upper body, Dr. Krish begins to identify symptoms that may be related to abnormalities at the TMJ or temporomandibular joint.

Through the use of actual case studies, testimonials, definition of various sleep disorder terms, illustrations, analyzing one's diet and sound qualified medical advice, she presents a strong case that if these sleep disorders are left untreated, they may lead to more serious conditions. Some of those more serious conditions could include Alzheimer's, heart attack or stroke.

Restore Your Rest: Solution for TMJ and Sleep Disorders by Shab R. Krish, DDS, a certified professional in the area of craniofacial pain and craniofacial dental sleep medicine, demonstrates her vast expertise and experience on this topic.

The book is very informative, direct, well written utilizing layman terms that identifies and relates with the reader about sleep disorders, possible causes, solutions and presents sound medical advice and treatment steps.

Healthy advice about sleep disorders

Texas author Dr. Shab Krish offers a brief but important book about a disorder that affects most all of us, either occasionally or consistently: insomnia and other permutations of sleep dysfunction. Her areas of special interest in her practice are temporomandibular disorder, craniofacial pain and sleep disorders. Her practice is at her TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centre of North Texas.

Often some of the most valuable advice for health disorders comes from doctors who have suffered from such disorders and have overcome the problem and offer not only their insights but also their realistic means to tackle such problems for their patients. Dr. Krish is a dentist who has suffered from TMJ and obstructive sleep apnea and shares her experience and her research and successful treatment of these problems.

The discussion about nonsurgical solutions to breathing-related sleep disorders to temporomandibular disorder is clearly stated and easy to follow and hopefully will lead many readers to embrace the use of an intraoral device to correct sleep apnea. She includes patient studies she has performed and makes the process very clear and accessible. And in addition to the in depth discussion of TMJ and sleep disorders she includes a fine overview of how to manage diet to aid in overcoming TMJ and achieving good sleep.

For everyone who desires satisfying, restful and health improving sleep, this is a manual to read.

Restore Your Rest: Solutions for TMJ and Sleep Disorders
by Shab R. Krish DDS MS DABCP DABCDSM

I am a person who had never dealt with sleep issues or slept with anyone who had to deal with them. Then I met my husband and everyone within 100 feet of our house of us was suddenly dealing with it. Finally, after months of what seemed like next to zero rest, his doctor ordered him to have sleep study done and eventually they settled on a series of treatments. It was in preparation for and delving into the results that we found out how detrimental the effects of not sleeping well can be on a human body. Even simple 'benign' snoring is not so benign. In Dr. Krish's brief but highly informative book on the subject, the reader gets a crash course in TMJ, sleep disorders, symptoms and methods of treatment.

I, like many other readers, have to comment on the editing, or lack thereof. Being an editor myself and knowing how high the competition for editing work is, I see no reason for a book to go to publication in this condition. We are out there, USE US!

Help with sleep problems

I personally don’t struggle with sleep problems but it is a big struggle for many family members and I worry about it long term for my children. It was interesting that this book was written by a dentist as I would never have assumed that mouth issues would cause sleep issues. The book was interesting but I don’t think it’s necessarily what is affecting my family. I’m sure it’ll be very informative to other readers. I do agree with other reviewers that the book could use a bit of editing but it wasn’t overly distracting. I appreciate when something causes another person to really investigate and they share their knowledge with others.
