A forbidden friends-to-lovers rock star romance...
Malka Fischer has a bad reputation.
Jasper Antonio is the nice guy of rock.
They've known each other for years, but neither has looked beyond the surface. To Jasper, Malka is his best friend's on-again, off-again girlfriend. To Malka, Jasper is the squeaky clean bassist in her ex's band.
One night fueled by grief and alcohol changes it all. They finally see each other for who they really are and a connection is uncovered between them that can't be denied.
Even though it should be, since not denying it could destroy everything.
(Although this is a standalone story, some of the timelines of this book overlaps with Times Like These. You'll enjoy it a lot more if you read that one first! Also, there is NO cheating and NO love triangle in this book!)
Julia Wolf is a poet. Each word scribed I fell more in love with the story of Jasper and Malka. Jasper is the sweetest soul on the planet. There's no way to describe how perfect and beautiful he truly is. For that, you need to read this amazing book. This slow burn romance will have you swooning page after page. Not only is this friends-to-lovers emotionally driven it is hot as hell. I can't recommend this book enough. #ColorIsBlueGroupie for LIFE!
I have to apologize to Julia Wolf right now. You see, I’ve been her dedicated stalker since the start of this series. I’ve proposed in reviews like a creep. I’m not apologizing for that by the way. I regret nothing. I’m apologizing because I now have to dump her for Jasper. Sorry. Not even Julia of the magic words tops him. Even if she did create him. Seriously though, Jasper has replaced all Book boyfriends ever. I have never, not once in my years of devouring books loved a character in the way I love him. There are not enough words in any language to properly describe this man. They all seem so small in comparison to how beautiful a soul he truly is. Saying he’s the sweetest of men doesn’t begin to scratch the surface of how deeply he loves. Calling him swoony doesn’t even explain how heart meltingly romantic he is. The just are no words for this man. Even perfection doesn’t fit because he’s far from perfect, just like Malka, but his imperfections are what make him flawlessly beautiful. When I say Malka is the other half of his soul I genuinely mean it. Long before they’re a couple the connection they have is on a soul deep level. I’ve never seen two people who understand each other on the level they do. Julia Wolf delivers an epic emotional work of pure beauty with their story.
I went into Jasper and Malka’s story with some worry that I wouldn’t connect with them or like them much. And then their build from acquaintances to friends to best friends to a temporary nothing to EVERYTHING blew me away. They prove that all is not as it seems, and that this author is clearly capable of creating stories that tie together beautifully, yet aren’t cookie-cutter repeats of the same two personalities over and over.
Jasper and Malka truly connect as friends at a time when Jasper desperately needs someone or something to remind him that there is still life to be lived after the death of his mother. While they both struggle with their feelings for each other, they remain friends for quite some time before Jasper realizes that he’s dangerously close to crossing a line with his friend’s sometimes-ex. Because Jasper is so conflicted and unwilling to hurt anyone, he walks away, thinking that it’s for the best.
Malka is used to being told that she’s too much or not enough or too whatever-I-don’t-want by people, so even though her heart breaks upon losing her almost-was with Jasper, she understands. She finds a way to make peace with what she always thought was her shortcomings and faults before encountering Jasper again in Baltimore. This time, though, Jasper isn’t about to walk away from the woman who could easily become his world. They face some bumps in their journey, but their story is made all the more realistic and believable because of the difficult times, and they prove that they so richly deserve their HEA.
This one is a slower burn, but don’t let that dissuade you from reading Jasper and Malka’s story. I didn’t feel like their slow start was boring and actually found myself halfway through the book before realizing that they weren’t even truly TOGETHER yet! And yes, there is a little bit of drama with Ian, but we also see that the truth of Ian and Malka’s past isn’t what Ian has always been willing to let others see (or what Malka allowed him to dictate).
Overall, I was unwilling to put my iPad down while reading, even though I definitely wanted to throw it at a few points during my read. Malka’s pain just bled into my veins, while Jasper’s anger at misunderstandings kept my heart pounding and looking for more. This story proved that Julia Wolf definitely still has so much more talent to share with her readers and that we likely haven’t even gotten past the tip of the iceberg of what she has in store for future books.
So many emotions!!! I went into this book thinking I couldn’t possibly love it the way that I loved book 2 in the series but I was totally wrong. Julie Wolf just gets better and better. This book is so well written that I felt like I was right there living and watching the characters. I felt so many emotions through this book. I don’t often tear up but there were a few parts that got to me in a good way. This book was a bit of a slow burn and the intimate scenes are emotional, raw and fantastically done! I’m excited to get glimpses of Malka and Jasper in future books in the series. Keep up the amazing work Julia!

In Such Great Heights, book three in the Blue is the Color series, Julia Wolf continues to bring compelling characters to her work that not only have her unique stamp on them but are absolutely riveting!
Jasper is the kind of hero that by all means should be screwed up but instead sees life as something to partake in not forsake despite having experienced some of its harder lessons. This author does a nice twist on circumstances that would normally evolve a hero into someone with a hardened and angry outlook but instead credibly develops him into a man with an expansive and caring heart. This hero was such an understated portrayal, happy to be behind the scenes yet his presence permeated every aspect of his band and friendships making him indispensable and the heart of his band and inner circle. Ms. Wolf causes pause and makes one wonder if the ever-popular bad boys in romance are overrated when you come across a hero like Jasper.
Malka was a beautifully devised heroine, strong and confident on the outside yet a tragic past left her crumbling on the inside. Her tremendous talent and larger than life persona blinded people to who she really was, creating superficial interactions that when she tried to reach past them by letting her guard down resulted in rejection and insecurity except for a very small number of people. Like this author's other heroine's Malka was an exceptionally dimensional character with lots of layers.
What stood out in this relationship was Jasper and Malka's inescapable draw and intuitive kindness paired with their freedom to be vulnerable with each other taking precedence over their underlying physical attraction. Seeing this couple bring out their best selves with mutual nurturing was touching and their sacrificing their personal happiness for others was heartbreaking. Malka's emotions were intense and sincere hampering her desire to love by causing it to be constantly questioned and pushed away until she found someone capable of accepting it in Jasper. Raw moments counter by sweet ones were a nice touch in defining this couple. Their romance built on friendship and respect was well done even as flaws came into play making them approachable and human.
Julia Wolf delves deep into her portrayals giving thorough depictions that more than scratch the surface. Such Great Heights had a wonderful story line providing a strong foundation for this author to develop her characters on. This author writes with great skill foreshadowing the future events of her series books supporting cast seamlessly without detracting from the work at hand. Her dialog is robust and meaningful with each character maintaining their unique traits without any faltering. A great balance between her heroes and heroines’ dynamics contribute to her moving her stories forward steadily. Julia Wolf creates a story that readers will love in Such Great Heights!
*I was given an advanced copy. All opinions expressed are my own.*
*While this book can be read as a standalone readers overall reading experience would be enhanced by reading the other books in the Blue is the Color series *
Such Great Heights is a beautifully written book that falls within the lines of a slow burn romance with Jasper and Malka’s relationship evolving from acquaintances to friends and to eventually more. This book was full of sweetness, romance, humor, and lots of emotions.
Jasper is the bass player of his band Blue is the Color and he recently lost his mother. The pain and grief that he experiences is palpable. During this time, he develops a deep connection with Malka, another musician who is also a former on-again-off-again flame of his fellow bandmate Ian. The two form a strong bond of friendship and eventually, their feelings start to evolve into mutual attraction and love.
I loved Jasper in that he is a good, sexy man with a kind soul and beautiful heart. He writes gorgeous poetry and is so sweet with Malka. At times, I almost thought he was too perfect. Jasper is in a difficult position as once he recognizes how deep his feelings for Malka go, he struggles with his emotions and worries about how if he starts a relationship with the woman he loves would it possibly destroy his friend Ian and even the band?
“Life is a beautiful kind of chaos and so are you.”
Malka seemed like more of a complex character than Jasper to me. She is a bit of a transient who originates from Germany and is with a band that doesn’t hold par to her talent. She has been told that she is either “too much” or “isn’t enough" and this affects her relationships. She has this ability to bring light to those around her - people gravitate towards her, and yet most people do not pick up on her sadness. My heart hurt for her as the author revealed more and more pieces of her. I really liked her as a heroine. Malka was kind, loved deeply, and was the kind of girl that I would love to be friends with.
The author did a great job on developing the bond between Jasper and Malka and I enjoyed reading their journey. They had that gravitational pull that could not be denied. There were some rather humorous parts in this book that had me chuckling and then parts where my heartstrings were pulled. I did not find this book to very heavy on angst and the drama was not over the top. In case you are wondering here, there is absolutely NO cheating in this book!
In theory, Such Great Heights can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend reading Times Likes These (bk 1) first as you will get some of their backstory in book 1 and also because the first 2/3s of Such Great Heights has the same overlapping timeline. I received Such Great Heights for free and I am definitely looking forward to Ian’s book.
The first half of this book is a slow burn and you can feel the heat between Malka and Jasper raising just like the mercury in Sedona on a summer day. Then the explosion comes and you melt along with them.
Malka is a women who is a lost soul and also a very talented indie singer songerwriter with her band called Sadie who was born and raised in German. She moved to the States at 20 touring with okay bands and couchsurfed her way through the last decade. She has been on a rollercoaster of highs and lows for the last two decades, never knowing who to trust, you to love, how to be at peace with herslef.
Jasper is a loveable all around good guy who is a bass player for the band Blue is the Color, and he writes poetry in a notebook he carries everywhere. His parents separated when he was young and he and his mom left Phoenix to start over in Balitmore. That moved changed his life forever. This is where he meet his bandmates and they became as close as brothers from another mother. His mom was diagnosed with brain cancer and waited until the end to tell him and his band, she was dying. He stayed with here for last two months scared to miss a moment with her until she passed.
The story begins with Malka showing up at Jasper's mom funeral. She doesn't speak to anyone she stands in the back and cries because she understands his pain. To anyone looking Malka and Jasper are complete opposites but through the course of the book, you will see how much they truely are alike. They share similiar passions for life and love with everything they are. Together they fly high and reach the stars, but alone they are sad and incomplete. They are each others soul mate and other half, even it others don't see it that way at first. They make prefect sense to each other, knowing exactly what the other needs and how to make them happy.
"Feelings weren't science, if I felt it, it was real." Boy did they feel it. You will too when you read this amazing love story. You will fall in love with them both.
I loved this book!!! The ending made me smile and laugh more than any of Julia's other books ever have! I loved how, more than with any of her other books, Malka and Jasper had so much of their own emotional work to do in addition to the work they have to do together. For me, this book was more emotional and less steamy than the other books in the series, but there was still *plenty* of heat! And now I am missing the ocean even more than I had been before. Definitely read Times Like These first if you haven't, because there is background there that you will want, but then READ THIS BOOK!!!
I am trying to come up with something sufficient enough to explain this book but I can't seem to come up with the right words to explain how truly amazing Such Great Heights is! I was captivated before I got halfway through the first chapter. I fell in love with Jasper way before this book and Julia did not disappoint when it was his turn to shine. I feel like I could be Malka's best friend and her and Jaspers relationship was everything!! If you haven't read her series, Blue is the Color you are missing out on something great!
The best book of this series so far. This story gripped me from the first page and left me wanting more. Jasper and Malka’s story ripped me apart and gave me one heck of a major hangover. I’ve been intrigued by these characters since the first book and was so excited to read their story. It’s a doozy and does not disappoint. These two were meant for one another and suffer through a lot to finally get to where they need to be. Tissues are a must and be prepared for all the emotions. A must read and one story I would give five plus stars if I could.
I loved Jasper and Malka's story. They began as acquaintances, then moved to best friends, and finally to true love. It was definitely a slow burn, but Jasper is getting over his mom's death, and Malka is getting over, well, everything. I loved reading about what makes these two who they are. There's some serious character development here! They are more than just people in a book. Highly recommend this book, and series, and can't wait for the next one!
Where to begin. This is a slow burn but so worth it. I was so drawn to these characters and invested down to my bones. I can’t say enough about how well written this book is. I don’t want to give any details away but you will not regret it. Malka and Jaspers relationship is so deep and real life like. I was hooked from the get go. A MUST read for sure!!
Sorry. I loved both characters but their story was so boring. Funny, I didn't like David at all but that's my favorite of the series for the story.
It's a matter of taste because the author does really peel into these characters but it just plodded a long with bouts of grief or depression or bad timing. Ugh. By the time they were having wild sexy times I didn't even care. They had dithered with self discovery until I just didn't care.
Jasper stole a piece of my heart when I read Times Like These. It was clear he was going through a lot after losing his mother and I really needed him to get his happily ever after. Such Great Heights was a very special book. Watch Me Unravel started off right before the band started their hiatus, but this one started off at the same time as Times Like These.
For Jasper it was always him and his mother growing up. His father was abusive and his mother took him out of that situation. He loved her so much, so when she became sick things got hard. Losing her wasn't easy and in the aftermath he kind of lost himself. Jasper has a heart of gold and his band is everything to him. He's not the selfish type, so when he did finally start falling, it just wasn't the right time.
Malka is also a character we met during Times Like These. She was on again/off again with Ian, which was hurting them both. Malka has kind of lost her way and has her ups and downs. Being okay just isn't always enough. I think Malka carried a lot of guilt for things in the past and the author focused on important parts of the #metoo movement and working with abusive producers. Malka is another character who deserves all the love in the world and a character I really grew to love.
Such Great Heights is a slowburn romance. We slowly get to see Jasper and Malka grow close and start to need each other. For some reason they connect and just understand the other person. Except neither of them are in a place for a relationship or know how to give themselves to the other that way. Their connection is so special though, you could feel it in the way they were together.
I loved that the author took different parts of time and put together their story. We got to see the band members and what both of them were up to at different periods of times. Their paths kept crossing and maybe it really was just meant to be. Once they get together though, it's fireworks. Once they're together I had many moments with a smile on my face and believe me, things get steamy!!
And don't get me started on the lyrics and poems we get to read during this book! Julia Wolf really outdid herself with this aspect of the story. I could feel every emotion she was trying to bring with these words. I've said it every book so far, but I really think Jasper's and Malka's story is my favorite so far! Even though all of them have a special place in my heart!
This book takes place in the same time period as the first in this series and it is kind of fun to read from this perspective. Now you suddenly get all the small hints from the previous books. It can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend to read them in the right order.
Sometimes love is a real struggle and sometimes it’s the easiest thing in the world. Timing is everything. The characters experience loss, grief and messed up relationships. They are broken in many ways and even if they find comfort, companionship and eventually love it’s not a walk in the park getting there. I'm so in love with Malka, she is the badass queen I wish I had in my life. And Jasper, oh my god, why can't we all have a Jasper in our lives? The world needs more guys like him. The love story slowly progress and there is a perfectly good reason for it. These two were not the obvious choice for each other. They seem so different, at least on the surface. But one can’t choose whom to love and connect with. The heart wants what the heart wants and if time and distance doesn’t kill the feelings the relationship will happen. The way we carry our emotional scars, and the way we react because of those scars is perfectly revealed. The unintentional hurt and sometimes even the intentional hurt is killing me. But it’s also a journey towards healing and growth. It’s possible to get rid of old habits and stop the endless repetition of destructive patterns. It gives me all the feels and to to take them to greater heights - listen to the playlist as you read. You can find the link in the back of the book. I devoured this book, and must possibly go back and read it again before the next drops. You are in for an emotional roller coaster, but it's all worth it. I must admit I had to cry a little. In my opinion that's the best kind of book.
I received an ARC from the author and I am happy to give my honest review.
It is no lie that I love Julia Wolf's works. I've been reading her books for over a year and her writing has grown with each book. Such Great Heights was full of such emotion and complexity that it honestly left me speechless.
This is the third book in the Blue is the Color series and stars Jasper (bassist from the band Blue is the Color) and Malka (a German pop singer we met in the first book). The book starts at Jasper's mom's funeral which was a defining moment for many of the guys in the band. Malka comes to support Jasper and they spend an afternoon together while he is reeling from grief. Those moments were so beautifully done that my heart just ached for the two.
We then move into the Swerve tour. This timeline matches up with the first book and I was a little nervous that it was going to be same story with a different point of view. It wasn't. The author takes some of the moments we had already seen and gives greater depth to what was going on for Jasper and Malka. It's apparent that both are struggling under some really heavy stuff, grief and depression and mental health issues affecting their physical health. These two were so beautifully matched and I hurt for them knowing their timing wasn't right and there were going to really hurt each other if they weren't careful.
The book then moves into the separation period. Usually I hate this. I want my characters together, falling in love and working through stuff. But guys - this was perfect. Jasper and Malka NEEDED to be away from each other to work on their own personal struggles. There was no stigma with Jasper's grief or Malka's depression. It was beautiful and I love Julia Wolf even more for the way these characters were handled. They do make their way back to each other and it was everything I dreamed for them.
This book has ups and downs but they are so pivotal to the story and the character's growth. I even reached out to the author while reading and she gave me a gentle pat and encouraged that "it'll all be okay!" It was. It was more than okay. I loved everything about this book and I honestly can't wait to reread it.
I loved their story. I loved their slow burn. I loved Jasper's character. He was so very patient with Malka and it was fun watching her grow within herself and take charge of her own thoughts and feelings. I loved watching Malka grow as a person. Theres so much bad stigma surrounding mental health, that it was refreshing reading her journey. Her and Jasper's relationship is like a fine wine...it grows better as it ages and it was fun to watch it play out on the pages of their story. I can't wait to crack open Ian's story and find out what makes him so mysterious. As always, well done Julia <3

Malka and Jasper what can I say?! Well those who have read it will know what I mean by the hum "hmmm". Lol all is right. Wonderful love story, not too sentimental, just enough really. Blue is the color series had been a fantastic series of books and this was a fantastic addition. Loved every minute of reading their story. Julia is a true artist of romance stories. Enjoy!!! This was an ARC copy and i really enjoyed reading and reviewing this great book!
Julia wolf definitely knows how to build characters and make us love them like our own... Jasper and Malka pull you in within the first chapter... Malka has a depth to her like none other and the hurt and love that radiates off her has you rooting for her, Jasper is kind and patient and has deep feelings of his own he needs to work through. Will they be able to fight all their demons and find a way to build what they started.... read this book and find out just how strong they are apart and or together, you won’t be disappointed! Friends to nothing, to lovers... they were EVERYTHING! If a little bit of angst is what you like, well it’s got that too with some OM drama as well!!
OMG! What an amazing story! Julia has written another fantastic book in the Blue is the Color series! I loved Jasper and Malka! Although I never thought of them being together, turns out she was perfect for him! The story took them from being friends to lovers and the journey was fantastic! I was drawn into the story and didn’t stop until the end! I love the characters in this series! I can’t wait until I get Ian’s story!
OMG!!!! This is the 3rd book in the Blue is the Color series and what a 3rd book it is. This book was Amazing. I’ve been desperately waiting for Jasper’s story and I got it, but what I didn’t expect was his love interest. That was shocking!! I loved the story line. These 2 souls are so lost and sad I just wanted them to be together so badly. Timing is everything. This story pulled at my heart strings. I felt for them. I cried for them. Great, great story. Looking forward to book 4!!!
This book was amazing!! I loved Jasper from the very beginning of this series. I never would have thought it would be Malka. I thought she would be too much for his sweet soul. Turns out, she was absolutely perfect for him. I only saw her as destruction and mayhem. I was so very wrong.
With each new book of Julia's I think, "Ok, this is my favorite, there is no way she can top this"... then she does! Malka and Jasper's book was no exception. It was so raw and real! She pulled every emotion possible from me! I am in love with these characters, with this band, the world she has created, and most of all with Julia's writing!
Julia Wolf's books just keep getting better and better. I could not help but become engrossed in the turbulent relationship between Jasper and Malka. The ups and downs as they struggle with their feelings for each other had me gripping my kindle at times and falling in love with both of them and their story. Can't wait till her next book.
This book held my heart hostage from page one. These characters are so beautifully broken and complex. The emotions flow hard. The sex is HOT. I HIGHLY recommend it.

No.
«Avevi bisogno di me?»
I’ve been waiting for Jasper’s story since we first met Blue is the Colour and my romance spidy sense knew just who his girl should be & thankfully the amazing Julia agreed with me.
Jasper and Malka are fated, but fate is a cruel mistress, even though they’ve both suffered horrendous grief. Still, love that lasts until stardust only comes around once (if you are lucky) and neither of these guys are quitters, even if it does mean risking his place and Blue family.
One punch and a lot of shots the Blue family adapts, moves on and grows.
Julia Wolf is a genius, her writing adapting to the characters in a way I’ve seen very few authors manage. Gritty, real but always warm. You will feel so invested in these characters. You need these people in your life!
