MatildaJayne: Our Great Canal Boat Journey

Rate this book
Follow one family's journey from the purchase of a dilapidated canal narrowboat through its transformation by them into a beautiful floating home. The boat was transformed primarily by Billy when he was a teenager who was home educated and then trained as a carpenter, who has succesfully competed and won a Skillbuild contest for the construction trade in the UK when he was only 16. The refurbishment was followed by George Clarkes Amazing Spaces as seen on Channel 4 on UK TV, which also showcases his truely outstanding feat of transforming a rusty Volkswagon LT into a spectacular Camper Van for the family to use.Their voyage is even more amazing when you consider that the family unit consists of mum Jayne, a single parent, Billy, a talented young man and the youngest family member is Matilda a cheeky, energetic autistic girl. The family is a strong unit, with lots of time for fun together whilst showing that its not necessary to follow tradition. The strong family bond shines through the book and will leave you laughing at some of the antics they all get up to. George Clarke also mentions that Billy was the youngest Project Manager ever to appear on the programme.

Great read

I really enjoyed this book, feel good read and proves you don’t have to stick to the school system to be a success. Funny also in places, a light hearted read just what so needed in these negative times!

Superb

Rarely do we get such an insight and such depth - every emotion every nuance on show. I saw the program and loved it, to read the ‘back story’ a true pleasure. Billy deserves a brilliant career in design and build. You all deserve every moment of joy in what you created. Wonderful!

This was so lovely to read. Written by a fellow home educator,so I could almost feel her pride at how talented her son is.
We also watched the episode of George Clarke's tv show so it was nice to be able to read what went into the renovation of Matilda Jayne.
Well done,Billy!

I only purchased the book yesterday, and have read it from cover to cover in just over 24 hours. I just couldn't put this book down, it's very interesting, and a down to earth read (often witty too).I found this book to be engaging from beginning to end, and I highly recommend it.

There’s a lot wrong with this book. It’s over priced and an obvious cash in on a TV appearance. Wish I hadn’t spent £2.49 on a 70 something page book. That’s a rip off by any definition. Avoid. (Note to author; I dont know you and continue to discuss with Amazon the blatant unfairness of you getting one star reviews removed. I do follow your Twitter and the facts don’t lie... you don’t have a “publisher” unless you’ve been daft enough to pay for something that you could have published yourself... independently published tells the reader all they need to know). This “book” does NOT represent value for money.
