Wendy’s dogwalking business is finally catching fire on Sweetwater Island. Unfortunately, someone else’s is, too. When John Fitzgerald’s doggy daycare goes up in flames, Wendy worries that will be the end of her friend’s lifelong dream. But when Alan Kaufman, the island’s building inspector is found amidst the rubble, too, it’s no longer just John’s business that has gone up in smoke. His whole life now hangs in the balance, especially when the police target John as the person who both set the fire and committed the murder. Anxious to help, Wendy jumps into the investigation to try and clear her friend’s name and solve the crimes. She soon learns that Alan had acquired plenty of enemies, both in the community and at city hall, and any number of them might have wanted him dead. With the investigation heating up and the police circling closer to John, Wendy knows she has to act fast. Because the real killer is bound to add more fuel to the fire and Wendy just might be the next victim.
A good read but not as good as the previous books. The ending really was a bit of a let down. Everything was great until then but ......... The characters however are as good as ever and hopefully her BFF will stay around for sometime but I just wish she could be clearer on which was her romantic feelings run. John has suffered a major setback. Not only has his new venture gone up in flames but it was arson and worse there was a body found in the building. The body of the building inspector and as he has had several run ins with him he is now suspect number one. So when he asks her to look into it she readily agrees even though her BFF has come for an unscheduled visit after losing her job. Then Tate hires a new helper and she starts getting jealous whilst Asher still wants to date her. Will she choose between the two men? How long will her friend stay? Will she be able to find anything that will lead to clearing John and thus getting the insurance payment to start rebuilding?
