A fine addition to the saga. Not a high quality book by itself but definitely enjoyable for fans. Adds lots of lore and nice details about both Fortuna city and Nero, whose character and motivations are not that clear nor detailed during dmc4.

A nice little read if you like Devil May Cry. I prefer this one to the second but mostly thats because it felt like this volume got more original content while still remaining a retelling where the second felt more like a straight up retelling.

When I played dmc4 the very first time, I honestly didn’t like it that much, because it felt very hollow outside of combat, but this book fills those gaps for me. I love how Nero’s sections are the only ones written in the first person, and how the book begins with the actual incident that affected his arm, and adds more context to the town, religion, and how he is feeling about everything happening. It’s also more obvious in the book who his father is, with Dante thinking about it several times during his sections, and even Sanctus having his own part discussing the time he met Vergil. I still need to read Volume 2, but I loved what Volume 1 had to offer.
