This book, Someone Exactly Like You, has been with me for a while. I even met the author Esha Pandey in a cool writer-reviewer meetup and was so impressed. I was reading this book in July and then got sidetracked.
She has quite a few books published under her name and this was her first book. I look forward to reading her latest new release thriller, The Mohanbari Murders next. Here’s my review of the book.
Natasha and Veer are as different as can be yet they come together for a pretty love story in Someone Exactly Like You. This romance is a fast read, the story moves fast and always has a twist coming up. Esha has woven a layered romance with each character facing emotional upheaval.
Natasha is very excited to get an opportunity to work on a coveted Bollywood project but things go awry and she ends up stranded. Veer comes to her rescue and even offers her a job. Sparks fly and both fall for each other and then comes in the estranged wife!

.

What Works in Someone Exactly Like You:

Great chemistry between the main lead.
Fast-flowing story.
Very scenic location. Picturesque and reminded me why we love snow even though I hate cold.
A brooding, handsome, kind hero.
Did I tell you he is drool-worthy!
His sweet grandmother.
The surprise twist in the last chapter.
The wisdom and maturity showed by Natasha when I least expected it.
A well-balanced ending.
.

Some Slips in Someone Exactly Like You:

The clichéd and conniving, predictable wife.
The best friend who was a bit annoying at times.
The fact that the heroine thinks it’s okay for a guy to assault a woman in an extreme situation. Meh!
The ‘too sweet’ demeanour of Natasha, sometimes she was too naive but then she is just out of college.
Amyra was just a bit too much.

Overall, Someone Exactly Like You is a good read, well-written romance and a perfect weekend read. The characters are well-developed and there is a growth arc in the story that is quite realistic.

The ending was what I liked the most, it not only gave closure to all the characters, it also was true to real-life where ‘level-headed girls’ don’t throw their career away for a guy.

Read, Someone Exactly Like You for a young romance and a good sensible storyline.

I love reading sweet, memorable love stories and Natasha and Veer's love story is one such. Natasha is an aspiring director and Veer a popular director in Bollywood dealing with a messy divorce. Sparks fly but do they fall in love?
If you are a fan of old Hindi movies, this book has references to many old classics. And this is a story of two star-crossed lovers.
Highly recommended!

Can a level headed aspiring director at the threshold of her career and a superstar director dealing with a messy divorce work together without sparks flying? Apparently not. If you think it is just another bollywood studded love story, you are mistaken. In Natasha, we see a typical (not stereotyped) Indian girl. Aspirational, independent and professional. Veer is a handsome hunk with a hard exterior but with a heart to admit the truth and stand by it. The communication that the protagonists share with each other lends an air of honesty to this story and makes it enjoyable.

Apart from these, the ending stole my heart. Five stars just because the heroine, instead of cowing in, realized her ambition with maturity.

Someone Exactly Like You is a nice love story, with two interesting individuals. Veer, a successful filmmaker and Natasha, a struggling one. They meet accidentally {in an interesting situation} on a rainy evening of mesmerizing Mussoorie. Natasha, finally, gets a chance to work with him. Expectedly, they get attracted to each other. But there's a problem. Guess what? Veer is married!

The storyline {and the backdrop} is interesting. Characters are strong, especially Natasha. Veer, of course, is charming.

However, certain things didn't work for me, like the chemistry, the spark in Veer--Natasha relationship ---I found it missing. Maybe it's just me. They are strong characters, but I didn't feel for them. It was particularly disappointing because for me, as a reader, characters and their chemistry are very important. I need to feel connected to them.

Also, dialogues ---they are too long sometimes, characters saying things that we already know. Too much telling than showing, I'd say. But I liked some conversation, especially the confession conversation.

The ending was satisfying. And the book cover is lovely.

Esha Pandey weaves an entertaining story about a young girl with ambitions who falls for the bad boy brilliant film director. The inserts of Urdu poetry were well placed and added style to the story telling as the romance between the two goes through its fair share of ups and downs.

It's been a long time since a read a love story with such a strong ending and very believable too. Kudos to the author for this.

A complicated love story between Natasha a young aspiring director and Veer a well reputed Director meet in unusual circumstances and destiny seems to want them to be together and due to a chain of events the two of them bond over their love fur movies. Veer is amidst a divorce and Natasha although in love with Veer is very focused on her future and career....So what will they choose?

A very well written story, with a seemingly known plot but with a treatment very different from other love stories that I have read. Very well fleshed out characters make the story more interesting. Despite this being a love story the author has given expression to so many other facets and emotions involved in love and in various kinds of relationship

I advocate this book to all those who love well written romance.

Someone Exactly Like You is a good one by this prolific new author. It delves into the world of film direction and is well-researched. There are liberal doses of poetry and allusions to great films of yore, a fact sure to appeal to lovers of vintage Bollywood and Hollywood.

Though a clean romance, there is plenty of suppressed passion between the delightful Natasha and the gorgeous Veer, so go for it!

A lovely breezy read dealing with love .....an emotion which sometimes comes so easily without any hiccups but sometimes requires great deal of churning to make it all the more sweeter in the end. Very articulately written story on the attraction between Natasha and Veer and I had actually thought the ending would be different but pleasantly surprised to see the maturity in the way the relationship was handled. The writer has expressed herself so eloquently not just in the English Language but in Urdu as well which was the only party I struggled with as I am sure the lines were all very beautiful but was unable to grasp all of it. Have been reading the short stories of the author as well. Waiting for the next read soon.

Esha Pandey weaves an unputdownable romantic tale. Natasha, a modern, ambitious girl, accidentally barges into Veer's life and leaves a lasting impression on him. A successful man, Veer is dealing with lots of personal problems and has no intention of getting involved with a rookie. But fate has something else planned for him. Set in picturesque town Mussoorie, and interspersed with tasteful Urdu shayari, the story really entertains through and through. A great read for a lazy weekend.

Someone Exatly Like You is the stuff of a romantic's dream. Both characters Natasha and Veer have been brought out beautifully. The nuances of love blossoming in a complicated situation of the hero being married makes it even more interesting. The book will appeal to both young and mature readers, men and women alike. Loved this book...very well researched and strong characters. I liked that not only Natasha but also her Nani's character is shown independent and focused, and how she directs Natasha to take her decisions.

Though the plot is not new, the author has put it in a different light, what with Urdu poetry and lots of beautiful scenes. The story has all types of love, from crush to infatuation to love between friends to maternal/ grandparental love and most important of all, the story also talks about commitment. The characters have been developed well and the dialogues between the characters have been well written. The feelings of both the characters has been described in detail.
The research on various aspects of movie making and also some books referred to in the story is visible with the details provided by the author.

Love is an unplanned emotion. It can embrace anyone at any point in time. Since contemporary fiction has become trite now, the hackneyed storylines seldom draw any attention. Likewise ‘Someone Exactly Like You’ is an example of old wine being presented in a new and decorated bottle. However, the strong narrative and the command on the characters is something to look forward to.
