AKA Barbara A. Masci & Barbara Masci-Goss

From Kindle Author Page:

Barbara Masci Goss is now just Barbara Goss. I live in Western New York State and have three grown sons, two step daughters and 10 grandchildren. I wrote my books in the early '90's and now that I'm retired I have obtained the book rights and am converting them to Kindle. That's exciting for me because I don't read paper books at all anymore. I have designed new covers with a new author name: Barbara Goss. My first two books "Captured Heart" and "Forbidden Legacy" went to a second printing in the mid '90's and the publisher added my name as Barbara Masci-Goss, but I now prefer to keep it short and sweet.

From Author Website:

I'm from Western New York, and I live with my husband and two cats, Mandy and Molly.

I wrote these books in the early 1990's in paperback. My publishers were Fleming Revell and Baker Book House.

Now, I have the rights and have put them out on E-Books so people can still enjoy them.

My goal in writing these books is to provide clean but still romantic and adventurous novels for all ages. I've always felt that we needed more clean, wholesome books. When I wrote these books there were but a handful of Christian romance writers. Now, thankfully there are more. My biggest influence in writing was Grace Livingston Hill. Enjoy.

Barbara definitely writes the most inspiring and sweet novels! This is truly a tale of hope for love. An amazing read or listen. The narrator also did a good job with portraying the characters.

Hope's Story

Once again Barbara Goss has written another great story! Every time I read one of her books I think, "this is the best one", then she writes another book! I love Barbara's writing style. Her books tell a great story without the curse words, no graphic sex scenes and Christian family values. I loved Hope's story! I hope you will read the book, you won't be disappointed!

Hope Carlson has decided that she needs to become a Mail Order Bride. She chooses one man based on the fact he offers an adventure and a trip on the Oregon Trail by wagon train. Hope doesn't know all this trip will entail until she arrives to meet her intended husband. She is rushed into marriage and they agree not to consummate the marriage until they know one another better. She does NOT like this man!!!
As the trip begins her distaste for him grows immensely day by day. She is not aware he is an outlaw at first. He refuses to let her make friends, share things with others and keeps her to himself. He also drinks to excess! Things come to a head when the Wagon Train is delayed due to
a fever. The rest of his outlaw friends (or are they enemies?) find and kill him, leaving Hope alone and close to expulsion from the train.
Daniels wife Nancy passes away from the fever at the same time. The Wagon master comes up with a solution, and Hope and Daniel must marry to be allowed to stay with the Wagon Train until it reaches Oregon. How will two people that just experienced the worst moments of their lives come to a solution and agreement that will keep them with the Wagon Train? This book has it all. A little intrigue, danger, life and love.
Barbara Goss writes extraordinary stories of life and love. Her books move and flow so that you cannot put them down until you have read the last page. Her characters will grab you and pull you into the story before you are finished with the first chapter.
I received an ARC of this book and am choosing to leave an honest review.

Hope agrees to become a mail order bride and travel to Oregon with her husband. But he's terrible. She's determined to get an annulment but her husband's past catches up with him. Single women aren't allowed in the wagon train so she must remarry if she wants to continue her journey. But after growing up in an orphanage, Hope doesn't want yet another loveless situation in life.
Daniel is heartbroken when his wife succumbs to illness on the Oregon Trail. He doesn't want to remarry but he must get to Oregon before his Father dies.
What will Hope and David decide to do? Will Hope ever find love?
This is a clean, sweet romance. The story was interesting and had a lot of plot twists. It did feel a bit long but it was still good.
However, historical accuracy didn't seem to be high on the author's list. It's 1862 yet the author mentions the notorious train and bank robber Jesse James. One quick stop at Wikipedia tells us "Jesse James did not become well known until December 7, 1869". That's a HUGE time difference. I may seem a picky point, but if the author wants to include an event or person that is so well-known, they should have their facts right. I prefer to read books where the author is more accurate to the times.

I enjoyed this addition to the Prairie Rose collection.

Hope becomes a mail order bride, hoping going to Oregon will give her a chance at a better life. Unfortunately her new husband is nothing like she had hoped he would be. When he is shot to death she is left alone on the train, and that isn't something that the train's leader can allow - fortunately (or unfortunately) a fever has taken the lives of several of the people on the train and one of them is a husband who just lost his wife and he cannot continue on the train without a wife to help him. The only two options is to stay at Ft. Laramie or to go on to Oregon by getting married. Neither wants the marriage, but he wants to get to his dying father in Oregon and he offers her a deal that makes going on to Oregon worth it to her, so they marry. She finds that there are good men in the world, but can she trust him fully?

The author often mentions consummating the marriage. The first marriage it was the wish of the husband, but not hers; in the second marriage it wasn't a possibility so we get a reprieve until the end where it is brought up several times again. There is no TMI time in the story and I am grateful for that. I can say it was a clean read.

Barbara Goss does it again! Hope is a story of exactly that! Hope! Hope becomes a mail order bride. She and her new outlaw groom become part of wagon train, but before consummating the marriage, he is killed. Newly widowed Daniel and Hope each need a spouse to stay on the train. Will their marriage continue once they reach Oregon? I love these stories. Goss keeps them fresh with a completely new story line each time. This one was emotional. While Hope had no love for her first husband, Daniel felt his soulmate's death right down to his soul. I could feel his conflict and grief. At the same time, I loved how things moved and their paths changed. It's a story of faith and hope, and growing love. I absolutely adored the epilogue! Another beautiful story to add to my collection.

Jessica Caruso is a new narrator to me, and I thoroughly enjoyed her narration. She has a good pacing and her voices are wonderful. She brings emotional tugs and light to the story and made it a very enjoyable listen.

Hope is an orphan from Illinois, who has lost her fiancé. With no job prospects, and out of options, Hope responds to a mail-order bride ad. Her new husband is traveling with a wagon train on the Oregon Trail. Hope finds out too late that her husband is not a kind man. In fact, she learns, after his death, that he was an outlaw. Now she’s faced with a predicament...how to stay with the wagon train as a single woman. The answer comes in the form of the newly widowed Daniel. Although neither is excited of the idea...the wagon master insists that the pair be married on the Trail or get off at the nearest town. They agree, with the understanding that the marriage will be annulled upon arrival in Portland. As the wagon train continues, Daniel and Hope get to know each other and become friends. Will their friendship become more or will Hope’s desire to be #1 in Daniel’s heart be too much to ask?
Another sweet, clean romance...with a touch of angst

Hope
Prairie Roses Collection One, Book 3
By: Barbara Goss

This is the third book in the "Prairie Roses Collection One." It is a sweet clean western historical fiction romance.

Hope becomes a mail order bride to an outlaw Daniel is husband to Nancy. When he is killed and Nancy dies of cholera the wagon master tells them they must marry to continue the trip to Oregon. Neither of them are much interested but they must think about it. They decide to enter into a marriage of convenience until they reach Oregon and will have it annulled.

As they travel they get to know each other. Will it be enough to continue the marriage? Many things happen and the listener will be treated to suspense, mystery, and a bit of romance.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Jessica Caruso made this listen enjoyable.

This is an audiobook. The narrator did a great job with this story. She brought the story to life for me. Being a mail-order bride Hope thought most of her troubles were over. Did she get a good husband that would be kind and provide for her?
Hope was an interesting character with a personality I enjoyed. I also enjoyed the other characters that made the story stand out in my mind. I love wagon trains and the different things they faced along the way. This book had it all danger, sickness, grief and romance.
If you want a historical book that holds your attention read this one or listen to the audio like I did.
I received this audio from the author but was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

I really enjoyed this easy to read, interesting story in the form of an audiobook and was able to listen to it in a few hours.
It is well written, flows nicely from scene to scene, has a pair of really nice main characters who bravely face the hardships that life dishes up and do something with their lives that impact on their relationship and improve it.
This is the type of story that could rekindle hope and trust in one's life and that could possibly help a lot of people.
I enjoyed the narration by Jessica Caruso which was easy to listen to and I found it a pleasure to listen to.
My voluntary review above is unbiased and written after listening to an ARC copy of the audiobook.

4 1/2 stars

This starts out kind of slow but quickly turns into a great adventure/ finding their place/ redemption story. Involves a wagon train and the trials of that endearment. Along with two spouses death and the living overcoming that. An orphan from infancy wanting to find love she’s never had before. This leaves you with a warm feeling at the end.

There is no sexual references or language so I can recommend this to anyone of any age . ( it does refer several times to “consummating the marriage” but that’s as close to sexual references as this book says.

Hope

I loved this book! It's a well written book about love on the Oregon trail. From the death of family, the hardships they faced and coming to count on their faith in God to help them deal with their problems. The characters in the book were believable and likeable. I also liked how the book went beyond their trip west and gave Hope and Daniel time for their relationship to continue. This is a clean, heartwarming book that I recommend, especially if you like historical western romance.

When Hope reacts on a mail order advertisement she’s just happy to leave the orphanage. But her new husband is an outlaw who just needs a wife to go with him on the wagon train. When her husband dies she needs to team up with a new widower Daniel. Can she marry again without love loving him and being loved?
I really loved this sweet story, these characters are so lovable while they try to make best of the situation, and it has a great HEA. A recommended read.

The story was interesting enough, just different. What started out to be a mail order bride situation quickly turned into something else.

If the words "consummate this marriage" weren’t used so often it would have been sooo much better. Something less clinical and impersonal, and to he honest, less creepy could have replaced that phrase. Do people really say that? Yeesh!

But I could tell the author worked hard to make this a good story with a faith element throughout.

very good read

This is a very good read by Barbara Goss. Hope was a mail order bride for an outlaw on a wagon train. Hope did not know he was an outlaw until after the wagon trained moved out. Daniel was travelling on the wagon train to get to his father before he pasted. Yet when Hope’s outlaw husbands dies and Daniel’s wife dies they are told to marry or they will be thrown off the wagon train. What happens is in this well written book. Very enjoyable read.

I loved this!! Hope was so sweet and I felt so much for her!! Daniel was pretty impressive too! I loved how he loved Hope, but without the misunderstandings this story wouldn't put upon the heart quite as much!! I loved the plot and the pacing! Her words just entertain and the messages of hope and love really do feed the soul!

Wagon trains from Independence, MO., to Oregon

Ms.Gross paints a vivid, albeit truthful picture of the westward movement of our young country. The men and women who moved west were a stronger breed than us.
Keeping their faith and love of God through the difficult months is well worth the read.

Renewed Hope

I enjoyed reading this story of heartache, tragedy, love, and adventure! This story has all the brave travels of the wagon train and the hardships they endured. Hope and Daniels story is so well written it feels as if I’m on the trail with them. Great story and series!

Hope’s life is certainly not what she thought it would be growing up. She has more strength than she knows. Her “courtship” by Daniel is not what either wanted but what they both need. The quick read made sure I didn’t stop and do something else. We know there is going to be a HEA but the question is how do we get there? Barbara Goss always makes that interesting.

Such a beautiful love story. This story was set during a time of very hard travels for people. Sickness and loss of life was very common and people heading West had to make tough decisions. This sweet, clean story also had some suspense to it. I very much enjoyed the story.
