Miller/Sheppard #3

In Your Eyes

Rate this book
A gifted artist, Genevieve Monaghan expresses the wonder and beauty of life on canvas. When millionaire philanthropist Alex Miller asks her to create a painting for the new children’s wing of a major Boston hospital, she finds his high-handed ways exasperating and his stunning good looks distracting—but she cannot resist his proposal. She embraces the project, willing to suffer Alex’s presence for the sake of her art. Yet soon Gen finds herself falling for Alex and his virile charm.

At the pinnacle of wealth and power, Alex Miller stands alone. Women flock to him, drawn by his standing and immense sex appeal. Nothing touches his heart—until he meets Gen. A natural beauty, she is a breath of fresh air in his life and has no interest in his riches or glamour. Although they couldn’t be more different, the growing attraction between them is palpable, sizzling with intensity. Even as they fight to deny their feelings, Alex and Gen are losing themselves to the one thing more awe-inspiring than beauty: love.

I was born in New York City and grew up there and in Western Massachusetts. I began writing while pursuing my master's degree. My first novel, Ride a Dark Horse, filled most of a spiral bound notebook. I soon realized I far preferred writing love stories to term papers!

I now live in Rhode Island with my husband, two children, and our black lab. Our cat Zevon keeps us all in line.

5 STAR read!

Absolutely wonderful book which made me cry and choked me up many times! I couldn't put it down, I was actually reading it at traffic lights I loved it that much. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough, but I didn't want to miss a word.

First book I have read from this author and since this is the third book in this series (which I didn't know at the time) I just ordered the first two. They can be read out of order even though the characters from the first books were in this book as well. The style was very similar to Judith McNaught- very richly, developed characters that I fell in love with; a strong, confident, gorgeous hero; a quick witted, challenging heroine; and a beautiful, breathtaking love story.

Alex, the hero, is a successful business man from a loving family with a heartbreaking tragedy in his past. He has closed himself off to women emotionally until he meets Gen. Gen connects with him on so many levels even though they are opposites. She is a starving artist and doesn't worship the ground he walks on like everyone else does and she makes him laugh. They are instantly attracted to each other, but Gen fights it because she thinks Alex is a womanizing cheat and from a different world then her. He isn't though, he is a wonderful caring man that takes care of his aunt and nieces and nephews, as well as, sees Gen's true spirit. Gen has amazing artistic talent and Alex recognizes it immediately and commissions her to paint a picture for the hospital wing he is donating. The plot is mainly about how their love grows and the struggles they go through. All men need to be this sensitive and convincing.

There are few love triangles, which is a favorite theme of mine, and plenty of misunderstandings and miscommunications. I was worried it was going to be too clean, but once they got together there was lots of sizzle. My only complaint is I wish it had a different conflict to resolve at the end. I could see it coming, but I didn't want it. It still all worked in the end and I loved the rest of the 380 pages so I couldn't give it any less than 5 stars. This was just one of those books that hit all my right buttons.

The hero was extremely rich, handsome, and smart. The heroine was very poor, came from a huge family, and was a talented artist. I just didn't feel the chemistry between the 2 characters. There was a LOT of focus on family members like the hero's great aunt and the hero's nephew and niece. Then there was a lot of unpleasantness with the ex-girlfriend of the hero.

The author was a good writer, I just did not like the story she was telling.

this ebook was ok. I did not like that the author had the ex-girlfriend sydney point of view in the book. I hated the ex-girlfriend. I did not like the way it ended and that were no epilogue. no cheating.

I wasn't too impressed with In Your Eyes at all. I found it lacking depth, plot and I put it down easily to do the laundry (which is saying a lot).

Gen, our heroine is an artist who is hired by Alex to create a painting for the new children's wing our super rich hero is donating to a hospital. Sparks fly and Alex, who is normally stand offish with his women falls head over heals for Gen. Gen falls right along with Alex and there you have it.

I normally soak up books that are all centered on the characters and the romance they create. With this type of story though, the hero and heroine have to be strong moving characters. I felt Alex pretty much fit this bill, but Gen's character fell short of likable to me. Though I thought the author did a great job of developing her, we knew who she was and what she felt, she was over the top corny and way too sweet. I know she was in love and all doey eyed but this was one of those scenarios when you want to stick your finger down you throat because you're going to hurl at her sweetness. I couldn't picture her with any backbone and I just can't respond in a positive way to heroines who are potential doormats.

What really clinched my opinion of In Your Eyes was how Gen handled the climax in the book ("climax" is loosely put). She went the road of "if you love someone set them free". Maybe I'm too much of a cynic but if that main conflict would have come earlier in the book I would not have continued reading it. Her actions were so unbelievably stupid I couldn't help but roll my eyes and groan to myself.

I looked so forward to reading this book - Alex became a favourite of mine in the first two books so I was especially excited about reading his story. I felt this way right up to the last 15-20 pages. To my disappointment I felt let down by the rushed ending. Why do authors rush the ending....this book was heading for 5 star rating from me. I liked what happened just not the execution of it. Although it was a HEA finish it didn't bring a smile to my face and create warm feelings in me. Regardless, I still think this book is worth reading.

I've read every book by this author and loved each and every one. "In Your Eyes" is my favorite. Loved the story of the young artist and the older tall, dark and handsome financial mogul. Suddenly this author disappeared and has had nothing new in several years. I miss her books! Wish I knew what happened.

Update: Laura Moore is writing once again! The first book in her new "Rosewood" trilogy will be on bookshelves January 26, 2010. I'm thrilled!!!!

This was a great book about a painter, Genevieve Monaghan, who had been commissioned to paint a large picture in the foyer of the new Children's Wing of the hospital. Alex Miller's aunt had sent her nephew to an art exhibit knowing that he would love Gen's work and he did. Due to temporarily losing her live-in help, Alex's aunt hired Gen to help her in the Hamptons and offered her a beautiful studio that her husband used to use before his death. This was the perfect set up for Gen to be able to paint and to pay for her room and board. Alex Miller was one of those guys that women gathered around because of his good looks and his money but Gen was not impressed solely by his money but she did think he was very good looking. Their relationship was smooth for a while but then hit the rocks when she felt that she did not fit into this society. Great read.

One Of My Favorites

This is the second time I have read this book and I may read it again. It has the elements of a perfect romance novel, a lovable couple and a misunderstanding that threatens to doom the relationship. The story reminds me of Linda Howard and Judith McNaught., two of a short list of favorite authors in this genre. This book even has a dab of "An Affair to Remember".

Reads like a Jessica Bird (JR Ward) “Harlequin/Blaze”bk, those that JB/JRW re-released recently. Typical of those Cinderella type stories…young (33), wealthy, absolutely gorgeous perfect guy falls for the struggling artist. The girl he dumps at the beginning of the bk is a hanger on. The H trying to keep the peace as his ex/her company is currently working on a project for the H puts up with her drama rather than just scraping her off. Misunderstanding and minor angst ensues about 90% in, however all’s well that ends well…I guess I should say ends rather unusually abrupt with a proposal that leaves out the h’s response to said proposal which the reader is lead to believe will be a “Yes”/HEA. Single read that I think it would be better as a borrowed bk rather than a keeper.

My favorite Laura Moore book! I've read a lot of her stuff and this one just got me. I loved both Alex and Gen and was totally rooting for them. Sydney was a excellent villian who ends up redeeming herself and it was just overall a great book.

I expected to like it better than I did. I had trouble staying in the story and found myself skimming but I think that it was just me having too much going on. I think I am going to have to read this book again at a later date.
