Absolutely wonderful book which made me cry and choked me up many times! I couldn't put it down, I was actually reading it at traffic lights I loved it that much. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough, but I didn't want to miss a word.
First book I have read from this author and since this is the third book in this series (which I didn't know at the time) I just ordered the first two. They can be read out of order even though the characters from the first books were in this book as well. The style was very similar to Judith McNaught- very richly, developed characters that I fell in love with; a strong, confident, gorgeous hero; a quick witted, challenging heroine; and a beautiful, breathtaking love story.
Alex, the hero, is a successful business man from a loving family with a heartbreaking tragedy in his past. He has closed himself off to women emotionally until he meets Gen. Gen connects with him on so many levels even though they are opposites. She is a starving artist and doesn't worship the ground he walks on like everyone else does and she makes him laugh. They are instantly attracted to each other, but Gen fights it because she thinks Alex is a womanizing cheat and from a different world then her. He isn't though, he is a wonderful caring man that takes care of his aunt and nieces and nephews, as well as, sees Gen's true spirit. Gen has amazing artistic talent and Alex recognizes it immediately and commissions her to paint a picture for the hospital wing he is donating. The plot is mainly about how their love grows and the struggles they go through. All men need to be this sensitive and convincing.
There are few love triangles, which is a favorite theme of mine, and plenty of misunderstandings and miscommunications. I was worried it was going to be too clean, but once they got together there was lots of sizzle. My only complaint is I wish it had a different conflict to resolve at the end. I could see it coming, but I didn't want it. It still all worked in the end and I loved the rest of the 380 pages so I couldn't give it any less than 5 stars. This was just one of those books that hit all my right buttons.
