Wonderful Surprises

This book! Wow! It might be my favorite Alisa book yet. It has all the feels and takes you on a journey of love and loss and more love. I read this in a day because I couldn’t put it down. The main characters are well written and very believable. I have been reading Alisa’s books since the first one and I have not been disappointed yet! I never want them to end. Now I have a serious book hangover! Thank you Alisa for my Highland escapes! ❤️

This is my first book by this author but it won’t be my last. It’s also my first Highlander romance.
What I really liked about this book is that it’s much more than a love story or should I say love stories taking place in the pages of this book. It has a true ring of feminism to it. Allana is a free spirit with an independent mind and wants to do so much more with her life than just meet the minimum expectations of what women were during those times. She’s feisty and won’t be satisfied to just know her place. Her place is whatever or wherever she deems it to be and she won’t be contained. I would imagine this was true of a lot of women throughout history but standing up and doing something about it was quite a challenge. I’m sure they were looked upon as inferior and different. The ultimate goal for a woman was to be betrothed, marry and have children. To deviate was paramount to becoming a spinster.
Yes, there is a lot of story to be told and you can read the blurb to get the gist, better yet read the book to get the full story. I don’t do spoilers. That’s what the book is for and the blurb.
What I will say is that Allana learns that sometimes life doesn’t always turn out like you planned.
Yes, there are wonderful characters in this story and beautiful landscapes, intrigue, deviousness, romance and heat. It also gives you a good look into how hard things were during those times. What I found amazing is that to the characters it didn't seem hard. As a reader I couldn't imagine living like that. I guess we all adapt to our times. I did love reading the Scottish accent. I would’ve liked more of that.
So yes, I was captivated by this beautiful story. I could picture the landscape in my mind. As I said it was my first book by the author and of this genre, but it won;t be last of either.

I have to be honest here. I wasn't all that keen on this book. It's a Scottish Historical Romance yet none of the characters spoke with a Scottish dialect except for the servants and some locals. I know it's tough to write that and maybe the author wrote it like this to make it easier for readers to understand what's being said. I don't know. But I like the challenge of figuring out what's being said and since I've read enough of them, it's not a challenge at all. Rather, it takes me back to the time and allows me to get lost in the story. With the modern language being used, I didn't get that pleasure.

The story was actually quite good. It jumped from character to character and it made me wonder who the real main characters were, but it was okay. Allana is supposed to be getting betrothed to Niven after his father dies, but her sister, Bettina, is in love with him and wants him for herself.

Meanwhile, Niven's mother has decided that she and Niven need to mourn for his father for six months, which meant no immediate betrothal for him. That gave Allana a chance to spread her wings a bit and she falls for Kendrick Muir. He was a scoundrel, to say the least.

Who she ended up with was a bit of a surprise. It's like he came out of nowhere, but he packed a punch and made in impact. I didn't feel any chemistry between them at all. It was a letdown for me.

As I said, the story was pretty good overall. It had a few minor errors that didn't distract me from the reading experience. My biggest problem with it is the modern language used in a historical context. It didn't work for me, but may work for others.

Two Sisters, One 💘Love

Allana💃 and Bettina💃 are the daughters of a Laird, just becoming of marriagable age. Both are different as night and day. Yet the younger girl, Bettina💃, is in love💕 with Nevin🐺, a nearby young Laird all but betrothed to Allana💃.
Allana💃💋 is a wild, carefree girl, who wants to make a difference and help the crofters under her father's Lairdship. Allana💃💋 introduces a new woolen craft, knitting, that can be done in spare time and the crafts can be sold in villages and towns for profit.
With two burly guards, Allana💃💋 goes on a horseback tour of the area to visit all the knitters. In her travels, she is forced by weather to visit and stay with Laird Gavin Ingram🐺🍆🌋💪🔪, a tall handsome, but gruff widower.

This is a fairly long book with several story lines, but it is very absorbing, interesting, and connected! I read it all in one day! I imagine in those days, the world of the British Isles was a small one, especially after the plague killed so many. People knew of each other all over the countryside, especially the ruling class.

ARC Received from Author📚
I also got the book with KU.
These opinions are my own.

Allana Dundas has a devil may care temperament, independent, and beautiful. She and Nevin knew they were going to marry. He was her childhood friend and his dad was dying with Consumption. He told his son not to marry Allana, she could never make him happy. He really didn't believe his dad, but his mom said to watch and see if she truly is in love with him. Kendrick Muir was a traveling wool salesman and he was well off . He met Allana and Bettina, her sister. They were very pretty. But Allana's dark looks attracted him more. He sort of started courting her and she did feel an infatuation for him. The ladies maid of a Spanish noblewoman was teaching her how to knit. It was not well known at the time. she decided to teach the poor and help them. She could pay them for what they made and she in turn, could sell the finished goods. She was so excited to start. Gavin Ingram was a laird and did not live far from Allana. The characters were warm and kind. They were also very engaging. I know it sounds a little confusing but in the end, all questions are answered. This is not a story for children. The tale was well written, moved very smoothly and had many surprises thru out the novel. It is like three novels in one but Allana is the main female character. I found it very enjoyable and love the interaction between all the characters. I highly recommend this book.

I received this ARC from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

I love a good, researched highlander book. This was not one of them. I doubt highly that a Laird would allow his headstrong daughter to enter a business venture with an unknown man. No one but the servants and villagers spoke Scottish. The characters fell flat too. Instead of this just being Allana's story you have her sister, her possible future betrothed, the traveling salesman, his wife, other lairds, etc all yapping away. It's very clumsy.

The book jumps all over the place and it's like Allana is just willing to settle for an ok match instead of a right fit. SMH.

Sex in this book is very minimal and non-descriptive.

The novel was well written with some twists and turns. There was adventure, love, sorrow, and the characters were well explained in their differences. Two sisters just the opposite and find love in their own time and way. I loved the part of the knitting needle project and how it helped the tenants who worked for the Lairds and the love that was shown by Allana. I am an ARC reader but I did buy the novel before it was offered to me so my opinion didn't reflect that of an ARC reader. I do love her novels and read them for pleasure.

This is a great book about a young lady that has grown up with an expected betrothal to a life long friend. Upon his fathers death bed he ask him not to marry her. She begins making money and starts a business of her own knitting. She meets a merchant and as he says he wants to marry ,she finds out he is already married. Can she become a wife and mother as she wants to be or are her chances gone for good

Love abounds

I love the way some stories (and this is one) where all family members play an important role in the story. The joys as well as heartaches, deceptions and revenge bring all members to the forefront in their own part in the story. Alisa has a unique way of doing this. For a relatively new author when are her mark in the way Scottish historical romanve.

Great Book

This book was good from begging to end. If I put the book down I couldn’t wait to pick it up again. The heroine of the book was strong and weak when needed. Everyone on the book was an important part of the story.

Another great storyline from Alisa Adams. Allana and Nevin believed they were meant to be betrothed but with a turn of events doubts emerge. I recommend this book to anyone interested in a good read. I received this ARC in exchange for a voluntary honest review which I have freely given.

There are so many twists and turns in this book! It’s like a romance roller coaster! There are some amazing characters, a gorgeous plot, some fantastic romances. It almost read like a whole boxset flowing all together, brilliantly interwoven (or knitted, one might say).

There are many, many characters in this story. Three couples and many others. I did enjoy the read. The men, while highlander lairds, were strong, loving gentle and kind. I can recommend this read.
