He wasn’t what she had in mind. But he’s definitely on her mind now.
Caleb Matthews is military-grade, that’s for sure. Can someone so gruff and straightforward possibly deliver a dying man’s message of healing and love?
Skye O’Malley thought she knew what she wanted: A knight to help her get over her twin’s death. Will she be able use what Caleb has to offer and find out what she really needs?
With his shy smile and evening jogs through town—that has every woman watching—it will be easy to catch her eye. But his no-nonsense nature, and another man as his competition, may make it tricky to catch Skye’s heart.
If you love a military man with a soft heart, a heroine with high expectations, and some spicy but clean kisses, you’ll get along great with Sweet Compromises.
This USA sweet, clean romance that quickly grabbed my attention and kept me turning the pages. The characters are complex, believable, and interesting. I enjoyed following along on their journey.
Him being raised in an orphanage knew nothing about love. Caleb has never been in love, never had a family and he met one good friend while in the military after that friend passes away. He made a promise to him to deliver a letter to his twin sister and to make sure that she was not alone on their birthday.
Skye Is sort of naive, her best friend and brother is gone and her parents are also gone. When she meets Caleb he is a man she thought she would never fall for she is looking for that fairytale, that knight in shining armor. And Caleb tries to be the man that she wants but is that really the sort of man she needs.
This is a sweet clean romance. Caleb may not have had love but he definitely showed it to Skye and he sort of opened her eyes also. If you like a clean sweet romance with a military man falling for his best friends sister this would be a good read for you. I voluntarily received an arc copy through Booksprout for my honest review.
I'd give this a 10 star review if possible. This is A sweet , beautiful love story between 2 people that need each other even though they don't know it at the time. Skye lost her twin during the war, Caleb lost part of himself growing up in foster care and hurt during the same war that Skye lost her twin. A year later Caleb arrives with a letter from Stepen ( Skye's Brother) charging Caleb to help his sister to move on in life but asking Skye to do the same with Caleb. Two completly different people come together by grief but in time , love , trust and compromise show each other how differences can bring those two people together. I was thrilled to find out that there is a first book to this series and am looking forward to reading more of this series
I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I enjoyed this story about Caleb and Skye. She's from a small town, runs a store and knows everyone in town. Both of her parents have passed away and her brother was killed in the line of duty. It's their birthday and she wants to be alone when an unexpected visitor shows up with a letter. Before Stephen died he gave Caleb a letter and a task. He was too help his sister heal. As an outsider to the town Caleb faces many hurdles. Skye wants a knight in shining armor. Watch as their friendship and relationship grow over time. Great HEA with some cranky neighbors. Find it what true friendship means

Skye O'Malley knows loss, her parents passed away within hours of each other and her twin brother, Stephen, died in active duty. When she receives a letter from him, delivered by his best friend Caleb Matthews, on their birthday it's almost more than she can bear. Her brother writes in his letter that he wants her and Caleb to spend a couple weeks together and remember him. Caleb doesn't know love and doesn't trust people easily. Will they each respect Stephen's wishes? Will Caleb realize what love is? Is there a happily ever after in store for these two? A wonderful story, great characters and I definitely recommend.

This book was a bit rough for me to follow along with. While reading this I kept thinking I was missing something, but after going back through I don't think I am, the author just kind of forgot to mention things that led to events in the book. For instance the clean-up that happened for one of Skye's friend that the entire town attended...what was the clean-up for? This seemed to just spring up! And I hate to say this, but Skye's insecurities and constant back and forth with Caleb got on my nerves real quick. I get tired of rereading the guy constantly having to reassure the female that he wants her and nobody else.
I am a binge reader. I like to start with Book 1 of a series and be able to read straight through to the last book. That isn’t always possible but for some reason I hadn’t read this series by Susan Warner until now so I am able to do so. I have enjoyed visiting in Sweet Blooms and especially enjoyed Skye and Caleb’s story. A year or two too old to be a baby boomer, my lifetime has had one war after another. We are too well acquainted with the losses in war. I felt another tie as twins run in my family so I know that special tie that twins have with each other. Stephen continued to look after Skye even after he was gone. Thank you, Susan, for this book.
This is the 3rd book I've read by this author and I've liked all of them. Caleb and Skye meet under really terrible circumstances, but form a connection and bond. The story has pain, but also love and true concern and caring. Plus, I love that there are authors specifically writing clean and sweet romance. That is why I will always come back to this author and look for any of her books in the future.

Beautiful Skye from the general store meets and comes to terms with pieces of her deceased twins past. The groundwork for their future is laid.
The cool thing about this story is the connection between all the people and how nicely interwoven- like the best parts of small town life.
The prejudices are addressed as well, and many family and romance possibilities become clear.
Awesome sweet KU read!
I received an advance copy of this book from Booksprout. I read it as part of a trilogy I bought from Kindle after I read another of the books in the collection on KU.
This book gave me the feels. Though the characters are wonderfully flawed and going through troubles, this book remains uplifting throughout. I highly recommend Sweet Compromises. It’s a story about small town girl who gets a visit from a military man. He arrives on her birthday to bring a message from her twin brother, who was killed in action. This is a sweet love story about seeing the best in each other. I highly recommend it.
There were some really good parts to this book and some parts that I felt needed developing as they didn't quite work for me. I enjoyed watching Skye and Caleb grow and develop, they had a sweet relationship and I enjoyed their interactions - especially to do with how Caleb looked at things and how he went about to win over the women he wanted.

Caleb grew up in foster care and never saw how love can be, while Skye grew up in a loving home and was taught to wait for her knight. When her twin was killed in action, he requested that Caleb brings a letter to his twin sister. From there they got to know one another and love blooms. I enjoyed reading how their characters developed, the revisit of characters from the first book and the setting for perhaps book three.
Dean Hidel writes love stories that are truly about love and Sweet Compromise is pure and simple love exemplified. Two broken people although broken in different ways find their way into a steady loving relationship. Caleb and Skye are beautuful together and work towards their HEA. Hodel writes sweet innocent love stories that make you believe in love again. Sweet Blooms is the town we all wished we grew up in.
Book two in the Love Happens series and I hope there are going to be more books in it. Caleb Mathews grew up in an orphanage and went into the military. He made a promise to his best friend Stephan that he would go and see his twin sister Skye O’Malley, and deliver the note Stephan had written to her. As these two get to know each other they find a love that is meant to be. A beautiful well-written story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A man died and dying sent his best friend to his sister, so that they might heal each other in their grief. A beautiful plan, well executed, bringing a former sniper and a small town shop owner together. A sweet story, dealing with typical small-town gossip and prejudice as well as the spirit of belonging together and supporting each other. Well-written and really enjoyable, as it is kind of believable. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was such a nice romance between a lost man who has never known love and a scared, sad women who needs a knight in shining armor. It was a very sweet, quick easy read. Sometimes Caleb is hard to understand, in the sense that he thinks differently, but he loves wholeheartedly. And Skye is griefing and making her think alot. Definitely a great quick read that's enjoyable.
Dean Hodel never disappoints! Skye needed Caleb just as much as he needed her but she had no idea till he showed up on her door step. She wants a knight and shining armor but can Caleb be that for her or will she fall in love with a broken man who puts in the work for her. Check out where their friendship leads I promise you won’t regret it. I thoroughly enjoyed this story.
Sweet Compromises is a beautiful love story. It was an easy read that was hard to put down. I found it to be a sweet romance. I loved the storyline and main characters, Skye and Caleb. Caleb swept me off my feet and all I did was read the book. This novella is perfect if your wanting a fairy tale kinda romance.
She had a lovely life until her twin brother was killed in the line of duty. His best friend came to give them the news. He never knew the power of love. She think is gruff but she also sees something else underneath. Will he finally find love? See if he will

Skye is heartbroken over her twin brother who'd died in action a year ago. She's heartbroken with the fact this would be her first birthday without him. There's knock at the door and a giant handsome military specimen tells her he is there on behalf of her brother.
Can Skye and Caleb find their way to each other? Let the romance begin!
this was a touching story of love. she is trying to get over the lost of her brother. he was sent to help her. they end up spending time together and growing close. there are people that dont want them together. read this short story.
Small towns have several traits that seem universal. Familiarity and gossip almost always take a role. As do community and kindness. Nice when the balance common sense works also.
This was a very cute story. Caleb wasn't raised by a family that was close. Skye was raised in a very close happy she's looking for her fairytale her Knight. A last wish brings them together can they heal each other and find love.
A sweet small town romance that was heart melting. I really enjoyed the characters that were drawn together through unfortunately circumstances. The story was heart felt and enjoyable.
The loss of a loved one is all it takes to bring these two lonely people together. The characters are amazing and so sweet. I loved this book, it sucks you in and holds you tight to the very end. I didnt want to ever stop reading this book.
A remarkable story about a family from a small town. Everyone knew each other. They also helped everyone that had a need. Stephen had to help his twin sister, but he couldn’t go. So he sent who he thought could help her the most
I loved how Caleb approached his friendship>relationship with Skye. Stephan knew these two people needed each other and managed to get them together to discover this for themselves.
