Holly Webb is one of Britain's best-loved children's writers. She has written over a hundred books for children, and her work has been translated into over thirty languages. Holly lives in Tilehurst, just outside of Reading, Berkshire, with her husband, three children and several cats.
Interesting and educational read. I have enjoyed all the series but this one fascinated me more because it had interesting facts about the snow leopards which got me thinking about what I could do to help.
This is a lovely story about a British girl who, after learning about snow leopards and conservation efforts, wakes up in a tent in Mongolia the next day. She is invisible to everyone but the little girl in the family, who needs help to protect a snow leopard mother and cubs from hunters.
Great way to help kids learn, and the environment is well described, with the challenges of living here quite clear. I think the book would suit anyone from six to ten, girls especially, and older readers who are interested. Gorgeous drawings help to make everything clear. At the end is a note from the author with details on how to support a snow leopard conservation project.
What an exciting read for young readers. The Storm Leopards by Holly Webb snowy mystical setting that happens during the Christmas Season but is actually not a Christmas story. So it is a story that could be read anytime of the year with only a nudge in the direction of enjoying children to think more than of themselves with their Christmas wish list.
This story begins with a family outing to a zoo but turns into a magical visit to Mongolia where she meets a new friend and works to protect the gravely endangered snow leopards. Easy to read with many black and white drawings, this chapter book would hold a third grader’s attention who would eagerly be able to independently read The Storm Leopards.
The added information after the story is most interesting too. I would recommend this book to any animal loving child. I am sure that they would be dreaming of such an adventure.
The publisher through Net Galley provided a digital ARC. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, giving my personal opinions and thoughts.
After seeing a snow leopard in the zoo, Isabelle is intrigued by these endangered animals. She begins researching on her own to learn more. Then she is transported by some unexplained phenomenon to Mongolia. There she interacts with a girl her own age. They work together to save a mother snow leopard and 2 cubs from the well-intentioned efforts of the Mongolian girl's brothers. The brothers are trying to save the family's live stock from the leopard. This adventure story is engaging for readers who have transitioned to lower reading level chapter books. The black and white illustrations enhance the story well. Information about Mongolian culture, snow leopards, and the complexities of protecting endangered species are included in an accessible way. Suspend belief to read about Isabelle's time in Mongolia as an invisible friend to a child with a different culture and language.
I love Holly Webb's Wintry Tales books but this one holds a special place. I love cats of any type. This one had some really interesting facts about snow leopards that I never knew. Outstanding book and series. Highly recommend it! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read a digital copy of this book
On a side note....I thought this was a new book because I read this a few years ago but as I started the book it was like hmmm I have read this before. And I was right but still good the second time around.
This book was amazing. It was very heartfelt and the second that I finished the book I picked up another Winter Journeys book by Holly Webb. I enjoyed this book because it really explained the danger that Snow Leopards are in and how we can protect them. I also like how all of the Winter Journeys books are based on real events. I think that the book had good energy and is perfect for 3rd to 5th grade readers.
Jakby I LOVE IT!

Holly Webb strikes again with another adorable tale mixing animals, a dream-like adventure and a less-well-known culture. This time it’s Mongolia and the local people who are working with conservationists to protect the beautiful snow leopards.
When Isabelle visits the zoo and sees a snow leopard for the first time, she can’t believe she didn’t know about these wonderful cats before. After buying a Christmas ornament made in Mongolia, she begins to research more about them online. But then an unexpected adventure leads her far closer to the leopards than she ever expected to be.
I really enjoyed this tale. Isabelle is an ordinary young girl with an interest in animals, like so many other children out there, and snow leopards are always worth reading about. I loved how the Mongolian local life was woven into the story, along with conservation efforts and reasons why this can both help and hinder the people who have to live with these wild animals. It’s a fascinating tale that is also interesting and illustrated throughout with gorgeous pictures.
If you’re looking for something wintry or perhaps even Christmassy for the animal-loving girl in your life, then definitely take a look at this – especially if cats are a favourite. It’s not just a fun adventure tale either, and has plenty of things for readers to learn about as well as enjoy, from ages 7+. Any adults reading along might just pick up a few new facts of their own too.
(I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.)
This is another delightful book from Holly Webb. Beautifully illustrated, it tells the story of Isabelle and how, during a visit to a zoo, she sees a beautiful snow leopard. This shy creature inspires Isabelle to buy a christmas decoration made by families living in the natural habitats of these elusive animals. This leads to an adventure she’ll never forget - but you need to read the book yourself to learn more about it!
The story has characters that other children will easily relate to. As the story progresses the reader learns more about the snow leopards and the people who live in their regions, the way conservationists are encouraging people not to hunt these animals and so much more. The story flows well and the educational aspects are integral to it, a delightful way to help children learn more about conservation, endangered species and different cultures. A really enjoyable story in its own right and one that could easily be used by parents and teachers to help inspire children to learn more about these and other creatures, including how everyone can help protect them. The letter from the author at the end of the book shares how a visit to a zoo inspired her to write this book and gives details of websites where further information can be found. Highly recommend!
Thanks to the authors, publisher and NetGalley, too for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The legendary Holly has written another superb winter themed story that made me laugh and cry. I love how Holly's winter themed books introduce me to life in a society I know little about. I spend minutes not seconds looking at the cute detailed illustrations which combined with Holly's epic storytelling (I'm a fangirl and proud!) make me feel like I'm there.
It was a bit hard emotionally to read because I know there are lots of animals who are endangered thanks to people doing what their ancestors did, not realising that we do have a duty of care to animals too. Snow leopards are my favourite big cat because of their colouring, making the touching scenes Isabelle has with the cubs that bit more memorable for me. Another to add to my growing collection of Holly books!
This was an absolutely charming children's book. The beautiful cover illustration initially drew me to this book and I would love to buy copies of this for Christmas presents.
Isabelle is entranced by the storm leopard at the zoo and when her mum buys her a christmas decoration made by families living in their natural habitat she becomes totally obsessed with them. I loved the conservation message running through the book and the love of animals evident throughout.
I would have loved these books as a child and will definately want to own a copy with the beautifully illustrated book for my 'favourites' bookshelf.
This was an absolute treasure- ideal for any children who love animals and promote a vivid imagination.
With many thanks to the publisher and Net Galley for a copy of this book.
I really enjoyed this book. The main characters are great and I really liked how the story developed and the ending was very sweet. This is the third book that I have read by Holly Webb and all have been a delight. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Charming story by Holly Webb, of snow leopards and a young girl's efforts to save a leopard and her cubs, from hunters in Mongolia. A great story for Christmas.
