Rate this book
Jack Turner, Mel Doyle and the SF02 team put together an undercover mission to find justice for migrants who are the victims of illegal trafficking and smuggling. It is a billion-dollar business run by powerful people. What they don’t know is they themselves have become part of the problem. By solving problems within their extended family, they discover a web of deceit and intrigue that draws them into the illegal trade. From Sudan to the Sahara Desert and the coast of Libya migrants suffer at the hands of traffickers and people smugglers while trying to get to a better life in Europe. Rape, murder, beatings, extortion, slavery and prostitution await many who attempt the journey. But to the migrant it is better than remaining in their own country. They cross the Mediterranean Sea in unsafe boats to get to Sicily and travel through Italy and France to the migrant camp near Calais. A journey that costs many their lives. Yet every year a million people continue to try. Kasim Latif and Pamela Harper witness the horrors suffered by migrants, but their mission is to expose those who profit from their misery. Out of greed, treachery, torture, slavery and kidnapping, comes justice, freedom, romance and marriage. This is a story demonstrating the strength of human spirit and of good to defeat evil. But reminding us that these acts of atrocity continue unabated to this day and governments must act to put an end to this suffering.

The Book ' Immigrants -Taken for a Ride ' takes us along the tumultous journey of Kasim, his wife Sabine and their two young children -little Lia who suffers from Tuberculosis and needs to be on regular medicines to survive and the resilient Manal ,when they try to escape the civil war and mass killings in Sudan in the hope of getting a better life in England.

It is a well written book that reveals the pain and anguish that illegal immigrants suffer.Since they are illegal migrants they do not have a voice and at every stop in the journey they are gradually stripped off their money and humanity ultimately even bereft of any dignity and hope of survival.

Thankfully the hard hitting story ends in a happy ending with Sir Jack turner pitching in to the rescue in a dramatic twist.Unfortunately real life is not so rosy.

Maybe such books will highlight the plight of these unfortunate people tricked by fate and preyed upon by mafia and help in getting them a better future

Although part of a series, each of Sam Boyd’s books stand alone. This is the second of his books I’ve read and I’ve enjoyed both of them.

Immigrants is a harrowing story of a family trying to escape their home land and seek refuge in the UK. The reader witnesses the atrocities placed on migrants as they try to escape. Boys and girls traveling alone are raped or forced into prostitution. The money needed to pay the handlers is never enough so many are sold as slaves until they can afford the fees, if they can be released from the bonds of slavery.

In the Uk the family has friends in high places who are working to extradite them from the dangerous situation they’re in. Of course as in any good read, things don’t go smoothly.

This story has strong believable characters making the reader connect with them while anxiously waiting for the final outcome.
