When Danamara Higgins is attacked one night after work by a vampire and mistakenly left for dead, her life turned upside down. A Vampire Bootcamp class seems to be the answer to her prayers. In her wildest dreams, she doesn’t consider the possibilities of meeting not just one, but two hunky vampires who take her—in the car, in the shower, in the living room, in the hot tub, in hand—as they teach her everything she’ll need to know about her new vampire life.
For centuries, Pierre has pursued Julian with no success. After a hostile takeover of Julian’s financial assets, Pierre is positive Julian will have nowhere else to turn. To his surprise, Julian chooses to teach the Vampire Bootcamp class rather than surrender to Pierre. When one of Julian’s students approaches him for help identifying her sire, Julian is stunned that she is his alpheli—an extremely rare mate whose blood will allow him to subsist on real food.
There are just one or two problems. Danamara is descended from Pierre’s bloodline. And she’s on someone’s hit list. Julian and Pierre find unexpected erotic rewards and eternal love when they join together to protect their alpheli’s life.
This book has been previously published. It has been expanded and edited.
I have found, when reading an Anny Cook story, I will always be guaranteed a great plot—intricate, well thought out, gripping—some funny lines, and a style that I’ve really come to enjoy. Alpheli Solution is no exception. That it’s about vampires only made me more interested because I’m quite digging this genre at the moment. I love the mystery about them, the way they appear so…well, mysterious! Dangerous, beguiling and, if I’m really honest, just that little bit sexy. Okay, more than a little bit sexy.
Julian is a strong character who fairly jumps off the page at you. I was drawn to him immediately. He’s a good guy, not into anything untoward, and finds himself as a teacher in a vampire class, giving newly turned vampires valuable information on how they can survive.
One of his pupils, Danamara, was recently turned and wants answers. She’s looked after herself in the bewildering time between being turned and now. She knows what she is—the story is set where humans know vampires exist—and made sure she took precautions and measures to hide her new status from her brother. He’s a vampire hater, and you’d think he wouldn’t hate them if his sister was one. But no. Alas, he’s a nasty little pig who is hell bent on taking vampires out—even if that means doing the same to his sister.
Julian helps Danamara trace who turned her, and in doing so opens a whole new can of worms for the young woman. Together, they are forced into searching out just who wants to cause her and other vampires harm. Pierre helps—he’s a very old friend of Julian’s—and Danamara recognises the fact that Pierre is in love with Julian. Although she’s well into Julian herself, she doesn’t want to stand in the way of the men’s relationship, so when it’s discovered she’s an alpheli and she has to sign a contract, she refuses to do so unless there is a change or two made. I loved that bit!
BEST BITS: Mr. Taglio appeared to be endowed.
Even vampires had to pay rent.
…delishmess. (LOL)
In his seven hundred years as a vampire… (Wow. Just imagining that amount of time on earth is staggering.)
“You’re a lovely woman, Danamra Higgins…” (Aww.)
“You’ll never escape Danamara. I’ll make sure of that…” (Ugh. This guy is such an arse.)
…led her on a bewildering journey through a baffling array of shadowy tunnels punctuated by steel fire doors and short pauses at security panels… (Love Ms. Cook’s style.)
“…Your cock will fall off before you admit the truth staring you in the face,” (LOL)
Reginald’s eyebrows shot up, the tattoos on his face stretched in odd patterns. (Cool image.)
If that fucker Rick was still alive… (Fucker…the use of this word made the whole sentence so real. Excellent.)
“You touched my dick?” “Yeah, and I liked it. So whatcha gonna go about it, Gabe?” (LOL)
A scatter of smiles spread through the vampires. (The use of scatter…it brought a very vivid image.)
Fight in their altogethers? (LOL)
…moving from one patch of shadow to the next… (Cool!)
VERDICT: Alpheli Solution is a hot ménage, but it isn’t just about the sex. There’s a wonderful tale just waiting for you to read it, with twists and turns and a baddie or two. Once again, Ms. Cook has shown off her lovely writing style, her humour, and her vivid imagination, showcased in a book that has all the mystery and shivers of delight you get when reading about vampires. Well, I do anyway. And shivers of delight are good, right? Yeah, damn right they are!
I love Anny's books, but this was just not going to be one of my faves. I'll let it sit for a while, and when I'm in the mood for a vampire book again, I'll try to reread it. Sorry Anny....I love all of your others!!!
There was a lot going on w/ this, but I liked it a lot. It doesn't look like there are other books in the series, but I would definitely revisit the world if given a chance.
