Orphan Lilith Grace is putting her life back together after escaping her abusive foster father. Waitressing to make ends meet, her world takes a sudden turn when she’s attacked by one of the patrons and ends up in the arms of a handsome brooding artist.
But at what cost?
When a road trip leads her to the cursed town of Crimson Falls, she discovers it holds the key to the thing she’s been searching for her entire life. But she isn’t prepared for how dark her past is, or what it will cost her to find out the truth.
Julie Strier writes in the wee hours of the morning when the rest of the world is asleep. She’s also hopelessly addicted to knitting, music, and the internet.
Lilith has been in a number of foster homes and has had a hard life. She runs away and gets a job as a waitress. An artist named Ash comes into the diner and get coffee daily. Lilith tries to stop a man from abusing a woman for the second and gets fired from her job. Ash offers her a ride and then asks her if she wants to go with him. They end up in Crimson Falls, where it turns out she is from. She goes to the house she grew up in and her father is there, as he was just released from prison for killing his wife. There is a surprise ending to this novella. This is another page turner by Julie Strier.
This isn't the first book I have read in the Crimson Falls Series but it's clear these author's can do the darn thang in the best of ways. The overall theme in a nutshell is October isn't the month to visit, and if you live there it's not the time to be outdoors. It's used as a chance to open up to your dark side and each book does so in spades. She was orphaned and just surviving at a dead beat job in a town she hated until the stranger gave her an option. This twist you wont see coming is a wonderful read from a new to me author who took me for a real ride and kept it coming through to the last word. Awesome read with plenty of action and intrigue.
This was my first read by the author and it did not disappoint! The author's writing style grabs the reader's attention right from the start and does not let a moment for the reader to be bored. The story is action-packed and definitely keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. The twists and turns were excellent and the ending was great. I did not expect how everything turned out.
Thank you to the author for the eARC as part of the Crimson Falls Blog Tour. I look forward to reading more from Julie Strier.
Julie Strier has written the fifth story in the Crimson Falls series, Returned Home. This is my first story by Ms. Strier and she pulled me right in with her writing style and character creation. A page turner that kept you on edge page after page.
Bounced around the foster system, Lilith has always wondered about her past.
Constantly fleeing from a past that could catch up anytime, Lilith works away in a rundown diner. When she loses her job she leaves town with an engaging stranger. She always did plan on moving on afterall.
They stopping at a road side motel for some much needed sleep, she may just find out about her past. But will she like what she finds in Crimson Falls?
Another surprise ending, gotta love 'em. Five stars for this great suspense/thriller.
I did receive an advance readers copy from the author and along with this honest review is a desire to read more from Julie Strier.
A great suspense/thriller. A page turner that kept you on edge. Lilith Grace, whom escaped her foster father's abuse. Lilith always wondered about her past. When she loses her job and comes across a man Ash who defends her to her boss but still she is let go. Lilith goes on a road trip with Ash back to the cursed town of Crimson Falls. I totally loved the twists and turns in this story. I was on the edge of what will happen next. The ending was great. I didn't expect what happened to happen and I love when I'm surprised with twists. Thank you Julie. 5 star+++
The story of Lilith is one that will keep you enthralled and wanting more. Leaves your mind to wonder what happens next !!!! Loved the one twist that I never imagined!!!! 5+ stars for this one. Highly recommend this as well as the other books in the Crimson Falls Series!!!
Strier has packed this novella with beautifully developed characters and stunning description matched with a foreboding mood and fast-paced action. It’s hard not to love Lilith, a rebellious, hardened young woman bent on running from her past. But when her past catches up to her, the shocking twists and turns are a thrilling ride. I can’t wait to read more from Julie Strier!
As part of the Crimson Falls series, this novel is set in 2015.
Lilith is a teenage orphan. She’s a waitress at Harry’s Diner. Though she’s worked her way up to assistant manager, she continues to run from her mysterious, dark past.
Bounced around foster homes…she’s scared Foster Father Steve will come for her…though we never learn anything about him, other than the sexual assaults…
Ash Miller is the handsome, brooding artist who Lilith has noticed in the diner. He likes to sketch and observe.
When Lilith has an altercation with a customer, Ash steps in to save the day.
As the two grow closer, Ash invites Lilith on his road trip.
Happenstance (or something else?) brings the pair to Crimson Falls. Reveals about Lilith’s mysterious lineage…
Flat writing style. We’re told what Lilith thinks and feels, but she’s not someone the reader can root for. Or truly care about. She’s a bizarrely misogynistic character.
It’s great that Lilith escaped the abusive clutches of Steve (wtf is Steve anyway?!?), but there’s no there there.
Lilith Grace really didn't know where she came from, and she wanted to. She's been waitressing to survive, but when she has a bad night, her life takes a sharp turn, and she finds herself on a road trip with sexy artist. They end up in cursed town of Crimson Falls, which would end up being the place that tells the story of her past. Boy, I sure didn't see this story coming at all! I mean, some of it I did, but I'm not going to lie, there came a point that I was thrown for a huge loop. The twists, it's like once people hit the city limits of Crimson Falls, the twists start flying out from every direction! So all I can do is just drop f-bombs at that point! Bravo Julie Strier for such a big mind screw! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I absolutely loved this story. Lilith and Ash meet at the diner she was working at. When she loses her job, Ash talks her into leaving town with him. During the drive, she tells him about the legendary town of Crimson Falls. They stop there to get some sleep. At the hotel, the lady recognizes her and tells her she is from there and she should not trust Ash. Deep down, Lilith always wondered about her real parents? Is she truly from here? Is she able to trust Ash? Absolutely loved the suspense of this book. Recommend this one to all.
Quick read and a page turner for me. The twist surprised me as I had other expectations. Lillith was a strong individual, dealing with her unknown past and personal issues. I liked her spirit and even liked her favorite pastime. I look forward to reading more about this town in the other novellas and recommend this one.
I received a copy of this story through Enticing Journey Book Promotions, and this is my unsolicited review.
This was an interesting story. It focused less on Crimson Falls and more on Lilith and her journey, but I enjoyed that perspective. The twist was well placed and executed, and I didn’t see it working out the way it did. This is the first thing I’ve ever read by this author, and I will definitely give her a chance at a full novel. #returnedhome #juliestrier #crimsonfalls8 #crimsonfallsnovella #crimsonfalls #shortstory #read #book #bookstagram #booklover #bookstagrammer #bookreview
Another great Crimson Falls novella. It has a mostly likable (sometimes not!) main character whose story is engaging. It has an intriguing mystery and a good pace. Once the plot really got going it was hard to put down. In addition, there's a small twist at the end that I think a lot of readers won't see coming.
Lilith found herself in the midst of turmoil, lust, fear, and in the end karma. Coming home was meant to be and learning the truth about her past was exactly what she needed to survive. Great book!
It took me a little bit to get into this one, but when I did, I finished in one sitting. Once Lillith started discovering where she came from the story quickly progressed, almost too fast, and we found ourselves trying to unravel the history of her family and past. There was a surprise I wasn't expecting and an ending that encompasses the evil that Crimson Falls really possesses.
