I love the illustrations, that's for sure! It's the reason I picked this book in the first place.

The plot was satisfactory too but I feel like the transition from one scene to another is rather abrupt. Therefore, I don't feel particularly connected with any of the characters or the plot itself. It was really a quick read for me.

The suspense was fairly okay. . Still, the rest of the book progresses slowly but is also hasty... if that makes sense?

Aaand I can foresee this to be a best friend to lovers trope. I like to see Antoine with Lya but if only the author could put emphasis on his character as well. I know the conflict really centres around finding the culprit who hit and run Lya, but the whole story lacks establishment.

However, I'll still see what the next book entails, especially when the book ends with that cliffhanger.

"Shh, Lya... calm down... it's me, Antoine. It's over.'
'You know it'll never be over!'
'But I'm here. I'm here for you.'"

This comic was not what I was expecting.

From the synopsis, it sounded like it was gonna treat with the aftermath of the accident directly and how Lya was gonna have to move on and continue her life from there. It sounded like it was gonna be pretty devastating to read. Instead, we get this... after, after situation.

The real plot is how Lya wants to find out who committed the accident and we barely see anything of her struggling with it or adjusting... They do say that expectations are what really disappoint us.

I mean, the story plot wasn't bad, per se, just not what I was expecting. It was still nice to see how well she took to it and how she made the best of it.

Also, her perseverance was inspiring and nice.

Sure, the narrative was a bit too expositive -it was pretty clear what was going on. No need to explicitly tell me - at times but I supposed it's balanced by the fact that they actually made the characters not completely brainless.

I did enjoy it. It was just really not what I was expecting.

The art did deliver exactly what I wanted. It was gorgeous. A true delight to see.

Will I continue with the story? Probably. It was an easy and nice enough read. A good mode changer and respite from the more heavy and long books I've been reading and I appreciate that.

"It's not exactly the life I dreamed up as a kid... but my accident motivates me every day..."

So, I found this completely by chance? And it just... called to me.

Upon reading the synopsis I just knew I had to read it because it seems like it's gonna be a nice and super heavy read to alleviate these hard times.

The art is gorgeous and when I'm reading comics that's such an important part for me. So I'm well pleased with this find and I'm pretty excited to get to it.

Lya has just started an internship at one of the top law firms in the city. However, she has another reason for being there. She found out that the law firm represented the hit and run driver who put her in a wheel chair. The driver came from money and was able to seal his name away. Now she's on the case to find out who left her for dead on the side of the road. It's a well written mystery for all ages with great art.

Apart from the flawless art and the lively characters, I just didn't like how the dialogues are delivered and how this volume ended so abruptly after all those blah-blah-blahs.

I wanted more emotions, more character in-depths, something more to the plot that would hold my interest.

The only thing that made me keep reading it is because it's rather too short.

I will read the second volume and see if I should continue with this series.

5 STARS! You cannot leave me in this cliffhanger!!! I want to know more!

I'd love to thank Carbon and Cunha Justine, NetGalley and Europe Comics for this free arc in exchange for an honest review!

I read this comic in one sitting and I loved it! The story is fast paced, the characters are so kind and the graphic is stunning!

The story starts right away with Lya lying on the street after she's been hit by a car.
Then we see her after she's been recovered, in a wheelchair, getting ready to leave her home to get to a law firm where she's got an internship. Her friend, Antoine picks her by car and she's going to live at his place.

Getting into the law firm, she makes friends because everyone is nice, but the boss. There she is doing everything she can to obtain the information she needs about the one who hit her and let her die in the street.

There is a cliffhanger at the end. One that will make you want to continue the series right away!
But please, read this book! Trust me, you'll not regret it! It has many positive aspects.

I really like this book, surprisingly. Surprisingly because this isn't the kind of comic I would normally enjoy. The story is slow, but I found myself really attach to Lya and I want to know what did that to her. The intrigue is simple but really well executed and I need to know, I will have to look out for the next one to know the truth!

2 stars.

The stars are basically for the illustrations. I really liked them and the use of colours. The style was exactly the kind I enjoy when reading a graphic novel. Unfortunately the story was slow and boring which was upsetting because it could have gone pretty well. There just wasn't enough happening and able I pushed through to the end, that was an even bigger disappointment. But I won't reveal a spoiler but I'm sure if you get that far in this book, you will know what I mean. Unless of course you like that sort of thing. I don't recommend this unless you just want to look at the pictures.

This was a gorgeous graphic novel. It is a mystery that follows a young girl trying to find out who hit her and paralyzed her with their car. The novel shows the struggles of those in wheelchairs but it also a deeply emotional story about a girl just trying to find answers. Lya is working at the law firm that was used to pay off her parents after the accident and trying to find out what happened.

Lya is strong but very stubborn and will do anything to find out the truth about the accident. She enlists the help of a few old friends and a few new in order to investigate and all of the suspense builds as the plot progresses.

I love that this was a mystery - but you should know, that it is a cliffhanger ending... but that was also kind of why I loved it. There is movement in the story, enough to keep a reader intrigued but then it all abruptly ends when you are really getting into it.

The illustrations through the story were very beautiful and easy to follow, and the text was just enough. Sometimes with Graphic novels they go overboard with the text and don't tell as much story with the images as they could - this book uses the imaging very well to tell parts of the story and struggle Lya's going through.

fransızcadan çeviriymiş 🙄 indirmeden fark etseydim direk orijinalini indiririrdim.
can sıkıntısından başladım, çizimleri hoşuma gitti; engelli bi’ genç kızın staj macerasını konu ediniyor. ikincisini kaydettim mi, hangi sayfadan indirdim hiç hatırlamıyorum; denk gelirsem okuyacağım.

Lya is hit by a driver who then flees the scene. That is all she knows. Oh, and he may had a fancy lawyer pay her parents not to sue. And that fancy lawyer is who is at the law firm she is now an intern at.

So, she is trying to find out who did it, and why, and all those usual mysteries.

Oh, and she is in a wheelchair, and the files she wants are down a staircase.

So, yes, she has a bit of a problem on her hands, which she finds a novel way to solve.

Really, the only problem I have with this graphic novel is that it is the first book in the series, and it ends on a cliff hanger. So, saying that, the art is lovely.

Seventeen year old Lya is a victim of a hit and run car accident which confined her to a wheelchair. She would like to find the man responsible. In order to do this, she gets an internship at the lawfirm which dealt with her case. Lya is friendly, intelligent and inquisitive. Will she be able to find the truth? This is the first instalment, so there is a cliffhanger at the end of the story.
The artwork is gorgeous, with warm beautiful colours. I am not a frequent reader of graphic novels, but this one stood out for me and I hope to read the continuation of Lya’s story soon.

3.5 stars rounded up!

This was a good introduction to the characters. Loved the disability rep in it and the mystery was very intriguing. I just wish that it would have been longer. The book was less than 70 pages and didn't go into a lot of detail about a lot of things. We didn't really get to learn about the other characters in the book, we had a little drama with the partner that was resolved really quickly. And it ended on quite a cliffhanger, with no notes in goodreads about a sequel coming out soon.

*I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

3.5 stars.

After a road accident that leaves Lya unable to walk when she was 17, Lya becomes determined to find out who the driver of the car was that changed her life forever. She dedicates the next few years of her life to studying the law and soon lands an internship at the law firm that dealt with the settlement to her parents. A sleuthing disabled protagonist who jumps headfirst into her own investigation? Yesssss. This is the kind of stuff I live for.

From what I can see the comic was originally published this year in French with the English translation coming not long after. I was never good at French and barely learned beyond the basics so I’m happy to see this has an English translation, and the reviews from the original language seem positive so far.

The illustrations are gorgeous. Like, simply divine. I found myself SO drawn to the cover and I was pleasantly surprised to see that the illustration style matches exactly what’s in the story. There have been times when I’ve seen a graphic novel cover and snapped it up to find the inside art very lacklustre but this isn’t the case here at all. The colouring is very soft and warm and just super appealing and cosy.

Story-wise, I feel like it’s missing a little “oomph” but it’s a good set-up for a first volume. Lya is passionate about her search and we see she’s been having nightmares about the accident, watching as the driver leaves her. I’d love to see some more meat to the story as the issues continue, but for now: consider me intrigued.

'Through Lya's Eyes' is a mystery comic about a paraplegic girl which has a fair amount to recommend it, but ultimately feels like a bit of a dud. The heroine, Lya, is a young woman confined to a wheelchair after being knocked down in a hit and run accident. In an attempt to find out who the driver was, she takes a job at as an intern at a law firm which she believes she will find clues.
Lya is an engaging heroine and her disability was sensitively handled. The artwork is good too, especially in the flashbacks to the accident. The problem is that the story lacks any real tension. Lya's investigation requires her to take risks, but I never felt she was in any real danger. This being just part one of the story, it ends on a massive cliffhanger. It may be that the series going forward is more engaging,. but I'm afraid this instalment failed to grip me.
