Battle Cry: A True Story of Hope and Encouragement

Rate this book
Battle cry (noun): a loud shout given by soldiers to frighten the enemy or to encourage their own side.

We all have a story to tell. Our life stories, the real and the messy ones, are God’s battle cry. They are meant to encourage one another and to push back the enemy—but they must be shared to do that.

In Battle Cry, author Jordyn Glaser shares her story, her personal battle cry. Filled with both trials and tribulations, she chronicles her journey to discovering the beauty of her brokenness. Through her experiences of being born with a complicated heart condition, having children with rare birth defects, and the emotional roller coaster of multiple adoptions, Glaser acknowledges the strength of Christ and the value of being refined in the fire.

Glaser uses her own story as a tool to rally the troops. She encourages all to stop living small and to fight big. In Battle Cry, she delivers the message that we weren’t created to be the hero of our own stories—we were created to be the rescued.

Each chapter of Battle Cry stands as a memorial stone of God’s faithfulness to the Glaser family.

Jordyn tells her own story of being born with the same heart defect that took the life of her big sister. She takes us with her on an epic backpacking trip with her sister (an adventure that would give her a glimpse of how perfectly she could trust God’s timing). Jordyn is honest about the hurt and confusion she and her husband faced as they went through not one but two high risk pregnancies. She shares candidly about the decisions and confusion they encountered on their adoption journey. She is also very real about the fact that adoption stems from brokenness, that it’s beauty and tragedy all mixed together. And Jordyn humbly makes it clear that she and Brian are not more special or more qualified--they are no less prone to doubt or despair--they are just doing their best to follow Christ.

Battle Cry is the story of two imperfect people who said yes to the hard things God called them to. Two people who stepped out in fear and in faith and asked God to provide a miracle--over and over again.

If you’ve enjoyed the story of Kayla Aimee’s micro-preemie in Anchored or the adoption memoirs In a Sun-Scorched Land by Jennifer Ebenhack and Counting Grains of Sand by Natasha Metzler, you’ll want to read Jordyn Glaser’s Battle Cry.

Read Battle Cry with a box of Kleenex nearby because you will cry. But you will also be encouraged with the truth that our God is good, our God is faithful.

Battle Cry will inspire you to step out in faith and follow Him.

Wow! Jordyn does an excellent job of sharing their story in an honest and creative way, weaving humor through a tale that has plenty of challenges. Having seen much of their story firsthand (Brian is my cousin!) I loved learning more details about how God has moved in Brian and Jordyn’s lives. A must read, for sure!

I wish I could give this book ten stars.

Riveting. This inspiring story of difficult pregnancies and adoptions highlights God’s love. The crisp, clear writing made the story come alive, and I didn’t want it to end. Jordyn is an author I’ll be watching!

This book is so encouraging! I love the way their story points to God’s faithfulness at every turn. My only complaint is that I didn’t want it to end and would have loved more details of each chapter of their lives. Hard to put down!

"The bottom line is that if you walk alongside God and talk with Him in the quiet, then His voice will be much easier to hear in the heat of the battle."

A beautiful (and true!) story of adoption...and not only adoption but the powerful way God works in all our lives if we let Him. Be ready to be deeply moved, as well as challenged!

Incredible

This is an exciting truth filled book about the story of two young people following the very steps of God in all they do. An excellent book to read, couldn't put it down. Have know their story and have prayed for each one of their children. Didn't know Jordyn's story though and how much she has come through and has always trusted God. Truly an inspirational book!

Battle Cry is one of those books that is hard to put down! Jordyn's story is not only testament of God's power & purposeful design, but also of the need to stand up and fight the VERY real spiritual battles around us. Learning about the adoption processes that the Glaser family had, and the evident need of adoption touched my heart and mind. The story of God's sovereignty in Esme and Abel's adoption was incredible. But I admire Jordyn's sensitivity to keep some details of their adoption process to for Esme and Abel-- for them to learn and share on their own. Battle Cry is an amazing story written by one strong woman of God. A woman who knows there's a battle raging and is ready to fight-- and is raising up soldiers of God for His kingdom along side. Loved this book and it should get a 10 ten star review!

Such a beautiful story about the Father’s love, written by such a dear friend. Highly recommend.

“It is time to shout our own personal battle cries and to do that we just start sharing our stories — the real the messy and the broken ones.” (Pg. 124)

A beautiful written adoption memoir. As an adoptive mum myself, I appreciated this story. Told with humour & hope.
