I liked this episodic entry in the series very much, while Mr. Wylie
I’ve been slightly obsessed with this series lately reading one book after another and the GBBO theme of the next book has me itching to start right away.

This was quite a twist.

The theme of one of the inn's bedrooms is Neverwhere! I want details about the decor. Surely there's at least a Tube sign that says, "Mind the Gap." Maybe another one that says, "Go ahead, do yourself in." Er, probably not. Maybe quotes stenciled on the walls, such as: "Calling the Marquis de Carabas a little bit dodgy is like calling rats a little bit covered in fur." Fake rats would be appropriate. A publicity poster from the miniseries. Dolls representing Door and the Marquis.

Page 221, Doctor Who reference:
"My stomach heaved once more. Fortunately, it had now been over twelve hours in real time since I’d eaten, and centuries in warped cosmic Time-Lord time-travelly kind of time."
Wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey.

Another plot thread is revealed

The thing I love about the wonky books is the clever weaving of plot threads which suddenly reappear when you have almost forgotten them!
Jeannie is an expert in exciting cliffhangers, subtle plot hooks, and quirky mysteries, all wrapped up in a magical overarching story line.

Paranormal Steampunk? Wonky Inn Meets A Clockwork Orange?
What a wonderful episode, I love this series! I can't explain without spoilers, so I won't. This story opens up the world of witches and wizards into whole new dimensions. This author can paint such a vivid word picture that the reader's imagination goes wild. While these books can stand alone, they are better when read in sequence. I plan on reading the entire series again when all of the episodes are complete. I love this series. I received this ARC book for free from Booksprouts and this is my honest review.

The Mysterious Mr Wylie #6 – Entertaining and intriguing. Good storylines continued and new make this an interesting series. The past and the present come together with a bit of time travel to 1983, not a time I would have picked. The pace is fast and the characters, old and new, along with the humor help keep the reader immersed in the pages. It is great to see D back and he adds a bit of sexual tension to mix; good banter between him and A. It is so hard to write reviews for this series without turning it into a book report. You’ll enjoy the series more if starting from the beginning, but each book is a good standalone. I contacted the author to review her books and received this one through Booksprout. 4*

Wonky Inn Series:
The Wonkiest Witch: Wonky Inn Book #1 - This is my first read by this author and I enjoyed the story. As I became wrapped up in the pages, I started enjoying the storylines and the characters and wondering how much witch Alf would become. Since I've been reading about witches a lot lately, I get bored when I come across another witch refusing to be herself. Why deny what you are; do you give yourself a lobotomy if you're intelligent and want to dumb down to normal? One of my role models, as a kid, was Samantha Stevens, she remained true to herself, and an independent woman, regardless of her silly husband's demands; unlike Jeannie, a beautiful, two-legged Labrador (eager to please her master). Ms. Wycherley's writing style is conversational and casual. The likable and interesting characters are developing at a good rate and will probably gain more depth as the series continues. The storylines do a good job setting the foundation from which the series will build. Once the intros are made there's plenty of intrigue and suspense. A fire opens a can of troubles bringing the witch in Alf to full acceptance. A unique use of ghosts, which I've never read. I'm curious about the rest of the stories. I found this author on and her book through Booksprout. 4*

The Ghosts of Wonky Inn #2 - As much as I liked the first book, I loved this one. I absolutely love the ghosts and what they can actually do. This is one of the things I love about this series; plus the fact that the witch uses magic instead of denying who she is. The variety of ghostly characters are great. I couldn't put the book down, I was so immersed in the fast paced, funny and intriguing storylines. The characters range in personalities, eras and locations, lending the story depth and substance. I wish all the books of the series had already been published so I could chain read them. I contacted the author to review her books. 5*

Weird Wedding At Wonky Inn #3 - The additions to this series just keep getting better. Another hard to put down story. I love some of the guest characters; especially when she hit him (read the story), although why use blackmail in this case? Alf mixes a party with a vampire wedding and wonders what else is going to happen; lots do happen. Great-grandmother brings her share to the table and then splits, leaving a spot of bother. George is great with his acceptance of the vamps since he didn't get on board quickly about Alf being a witch previously; what trust is that. The past is over for Alf as she finds the Mori is still about. Oh, speaking of the past, how about crazed villagers and a burning (read the story). That's all the spoilers I've giving out. There's more but I want you to enjoy the book like I did, without a book report. I contacted the author about reviewing her books and received this through Booksprout. 4*

Fearful Fortunes and Terrible Tarot #4 - I can't get enough of this series. I enjoy the characters and their functions throughout the series. This one has almost everyone undercover. Another well thought out addition full of intrigue and suspense, and humor. The storylines are developing and there's definitely bad news ahead. This book is darker than the previous ones and Alf gets to experience what witches suffered through centuries past. I didn't care for the ending; of course for the main reason (read the book) and Alf's attitude was nonchalant concerning that reason. I did enjoy Mama Henri, a voodoo queen from NOLA. 4*

The Mystery of the Marsh Malaise #5 - I absolutely love this series. You never know what to expect from Ms. Wycherley and her crew. Just when you think you know what's going to happen, there's a twist and you're off again working it out. The characters grow on you and the ghosts are a big part of the enjoyment. Yes, there's some darkness in this story; you've the good vs. the bad, plus a lot more in the storylines. There's a new ghost and he's great; I enjoyed what he and another ghost did to help Alf. With George, you know he's going to be found sooner or later, but what else is found and the result is hilarious. Alf is still my type of witch and she keeps kickin' it. Read these books sequentially, it is worth the time invested. A good, clean story full of interesting characters of all sorts and well thought out storylines with twists you just don't see coming sometimes. I'm curious about the next ride Ms. W. has in store for her readers. I contacted the author to review her books and received this through Booksprout. 5*

The Witch Who Killed Christmas - If you at all can, read the other books first, there's spoilers. Another well written, entertaining story that starts around Christmas, just months later after Wonkiest ended. While not as intriguing as Wonkiest, there was a difficult problem to solve. The cast of interesting characters are still around. The writing style is still casual with humor and drama dispersed throughout the story, this is a quickly read novella. I definitely want to read the rest of the stories. I found this book on Booksprout. 4*

The Great Witchy Cake Off #7 – There is a whole lot of intrigue with the murder, and pas and possible new love interest. I was happy with all the baking and not one bite available for me to sample, which is so sad since all the desserts sounded worthwhile to indulge with a cuppa. Again, there are good storylines, good characters with appearances from previous books and plenty of additional features in the background making Number 7 a toothy read. After reading so many of this series, it is hard not to get into a book report instead of a review, but I’ll let you discover that for yourself. 4*

Vengeful Vampire at Wonky Inn #8 - while it started slow for me, I was not in the mood for vampires, the pace picked up and I was immersed in the captivating storylines and good characters. This ended up being a good read. The author's talented blending of old and new storylines, vivid descriptions, I fell in love with Romania again, and her creative creation of characters made this story hard to put down once everything came together. Plenty of intrigue and suspense with touches of humor and romance. I contacted the author to review her books and received this book through Booksprout. 4*

The Witch Who Killed Christmas - If you at all can, read the other books first, there's spoilers. Another well written, entertaining story that starts around Christmas, just months later after Wonkiest ended. While not as intriguing as Wonkiest, there was a difficult problem to solve. Magic, Murder and a Movie Star, #10 - I laughed myself silly with the names of the Witchywood movie cast. Fun. Entertaining. Good story lines with a seamless blending of the old with the new. The characters are always good in this series; you cannot help but love the regular crew and some of the new ones. Lovely surprise for Alfhind near the end. Well written and well thought out. 5*

Judge, Jury and Jailhouse Rockcakes, #11 - A wonderful story with plenty of humor through out the drama, a good balance. Well written and well thought out, the story lines were interesting and the book was hard to put down. Professor Dodo appears in this story; his interesting story is the first of the Wonderland Detective Agency series. Alf's experience as a Goblin is entertaining while performing a great deal of investigations in record time. 5*

A Midsummer Night’s Wonky, #12 - A lot of serious business going on this time around. There is a heatwave that does not help. 80 degrees F in Germany is almost as bad as 100 deg F in Texas, so imagine 70s in the UK. A whole lot of love is happening, including Manc and Silvan, which creates havoc for C and A. A good story. 4*

Pieces of Hate, #15 - It has been a long time since I read Vengeful Vampire at Wonky Inn, #8. I worried about missing the several books between Vengeful and Pieces. Silly me, it was like I never left. I still remembered the characters from the previously read stories. Pieces was fun and interesting, and I did not put the book down until the last page. It was enjoyable to return to Wonky Inn, and this story did not disappoint. Wonky Inn is one of my favorite series to get lost in at any time. 5*
Wonky Inn Series End.

Wonderland Detective Agency series.
Dead as a Dodo - I enjoy reading books by this author and this one fits in. There are characters from The Wonky Inn series. Eliseo is a good character along with the rest of the cast. Interesting. Fun. Good story lines. Better than a Cozy mystery. 4*

poor Alf is faced once again with a mystery.

she returns from travelling abroad, and her bag is lost. a briefcase is found - and keeps finding her - belonging to a W Wylie.
Somehow he seems vaguely familiar - but some sort of forgetting spell seems related - along with some local, and closely tied, ghostly guilt.

Alf decides to do some remodeling, and add a few en suites to a room or two, and meets with some intense push back from her gran. Looks like the Throne Room is hiding more than one secret.

thankfully, before she went abroad, Alf reversed the frog spell on her former fiance. she may not be certain if they have any romantic future together - pox on Stacey of the call Center, and on all fun parts on George . George may continue to be useful with his connection to the local constabulary, and his understanding of the unique nature of Whittle Inn.

Certainly, George seems to be of some use when recovering the remains, and perhaps later in laying them to rest.
Fool of a man that he is. As Alf puts it, it is one thing for him to have been flattered by the attentions of another - but being susceptible to them - and especially when engaged to Alf - who wants to rely on that as a future partner when things might get really frightful!

Silvan the thief and warrior comes into play, and lends his skills, and his somewhat befuddling affection for Alf. A witch who can communicate with spirits never knows when she might need more battle skills, or his necromancer talents - wise to stay away from other entanglements, as his collection of ladies seems diverse - and appears to include many ladies.

A bit of sleuthing, lots of odd, strong magicks, and some abrupt time travel for Alf, Silvan - and even a bit for Mister Hoo the owl.

Rollicking good fun and adventure - except for the men are pigs part - and a great KU read!

I read an advance copy from Booksprout and read it on Kindle Unlimited.

Jeannine Wycherley's latest entry in the Wonky Inn series, Book 6, The Mysterious Mr. Wylie is a little lighter in tone than the last entry, and I think could even serve as an entry to the series if a reader was unfamiliar with the series. Overall, I enjoyed this entry in the series. The Wonky Inn is a very fun place to visit, and I've grown pretty attached to the various characters at the Inn, especially the "ghostly" residents. In this book, our heroine Alfhild, makes a gruesome discovery--a dead body hidden in the walls of her Inn! As Alfhild investigates the body and how it got there, her investigation leads her to the mysterious Mr. Wylie and a strange adventure in time. Alfhild is one of my favorite witches--her magic isn't front and center, but her strong personality, humor and willingness to do whatever is needed to do what needs to be done make her a great character to love, and I can't wait for her next adventure! This book does a good job at giving a quick overview of past events as you move through the story, so if you haven't read all the previous books, you can still jump in with this one. However, I do think your experience will be even better if you HAVE read the previous books. The more you know these characters, the more invested you will be in their interactions, situations and challenges.

Alf has just returned from a long holiday overseas and just wants to get back to the inn. She is stuck at the airport trying to find her backpack, has a major headache, and the announcer keeps asking that “Mr. Wylie” needs to come to the reservation desk. Why does that name sound so familiar to Alf?

Alf finally returns to the inn and decides it needs a bit of an upgrade, so she hires a crew to create on-suites for some of the rooms. Of course, a dead body is found and Grandma is acting very strange. Then the mysterious Mr. Wylie shows up to the Whittle Inn and appears to have connections to the dead body that has been buried in the wall for decades. Now Alf is on the case with Silvan to uncover several mysteries and put order back to the inn.

There are several different stories going on at once and keeps you on your toes as you are reading. Ghost Florence is a hoot and now is addicted to Witch TV and their cooking shows, which brings on the humor element to the tale. I enjoyed the book immensely due to the writing and mixture of humor, mystery, suspense, and adventure.

Alf is heading back to London after a vacation. She's starting to not feel well and the noise is too loud. Then at the airport she hears a call for Mr Wylie. Her backpack is missing and found in Paris. At lost and found she sees a briefcase that belongs to a Mr Wylie. On the way home someone hands her a briefcase thinking it;s hers..but it;s a Mr Wylie;s. Now she;s trying to figure out why that name sounds so familiar until she remembers a man who came to stay at the Inn during a Faire the year before. When she arrives home she puts into operation the plan to expand two rooms by adding an bathroom to it. Unfortunately when the one room they start in when the wall is taken out a skeleton is found. Her grandmama is acting weird. There;s an unknown body that has to be identified and that darn briefcase belonging to a Mr Wylie keeps showing up. Now it;s up to Alf to figure out how the body got into the wall, why is that briefcase always showing up and what does her grammama know about all this!!
Another fantastic story about Wonky Inn that is just as enthralling as all the others.

You go Mr Hoo. I love you. Glad you got back! What did you go looking for?

What would you do if remodeling and find a body between walls? A briefcase keeps showing up but does not belong to you. That could happen to anyone right? Now added to that you manage a wonky inn to include the paranormal world. Anything else would give away the fun of the book. Just go read it. guarantee yo will enjoy it.

I love this series because the paranormal world is different from others I have read. The paranormal world is different in that ghosts are your employees include ghosts, even one who is your chef and another is your baker. That is just for starters.......

Even though this book can be read by itself, you will enjoy it so much that you will want to get caught up in the previous books. Plus they will give you those little details that you may not quite in this book, like the first introduction of Mr. Wylie, and my favorite Mr. Hoo.

This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.

Time waits for no man -unless you can time travel

Another great one in the series. A plot full of magic, time travel and a secret that the Wonky Inn has hidden for decades. Loved the way the characters used their human frailties to enhance the story. From Florence's square eyed devotion to the television to George's abysmal stance of loyalty. Would e great for a romantic interest to show up for our main character. Someone who would fit in and stay.
It all began innocently - an airport, lost luggage and a briefcase that seemed to follow her around. Now back home, a well established cold and plans to improve the Inn. However the briefcase has other ideas and comes back whilst the workmen start work and discover a skeleton in a hidden walled off area. Murder? Enter a mysterious stranger (although he had stayed at the Inn previously), tales of time travel, the Order of select time travellers, a missing time piece and her favourite scoundrel. Will they find out how the skeleton came out be bricked off? Will they find the missing time piece?

Alf is just returning from a trip and finds the airline has lost her luggage. She gets stuck with this briefcase that isn't hers but the name of the owner sounds familiar to her and she can't remember why. Arriving home Alf decides the inn needs some repairs and additions. Then a skeleton is found in the walls, how did it get there and who is it? Silvan, who I like by the way, is there to lend a hand in solving the mystery. So who is Mr. Wylie and how does he fit in all of this, and why is grandma acting strange? If you like funny magical stories with a strong witch who is still learning her craft then you will like this series. I received a ARC from booksprout and am leaving a honest review because I want to.

Alf returns from Egypt and finds a skeleton during renovations in her hotel. As it is old she is not immediately worried but intrigued enough to want to know more about the dead person, especially as Gwyn acts mysteriously..
Mixing in the usual characters óf the Wonky Inn with their comical behaviour Ms. wycherley weaves a wonderful tale, entertaining and keeping the reader in suspense about who the skeleton is and why he was there in the first place.
The story, like all the others can be read as a stand-alone, but is a lot easier to understand, if one is already familiar with the set-up of the Wonky Inn and its unusual inhabitants.

I absolutely loved The Mysterious Mr. Wylie! Jeannie Wycherley continues to weave magic and mystery into the Wonky Inn series, and this sixth installment did not disappoint. The story was engaging, atmospheric, and full of the quirky charm I’ve come to adore.

While this book features a new narrator—Tara-Louise Kaye—I found her performance captivating. It took a moment to adjust to the change in voice, but she brought her own unique flair to the characters and maintained the whimsical tone of the series beautifully.

This series just keeps getting better, and I’m already looking forward to what’s next. Highly recommended for fans of cozy mysteries with a supernatural twist!

Alf has just got home from a much needed vacation and even though she would like to ease back into things at the Wonky Inn we all know that is not going to happen and it appears the name W Wylie may be behind it. I loved how we got more of an insight into what life was like for Alfs Grandmama when she was alive and what crazy magic was around in those days. I will be honest I was very distrustful of quiet a few people in this book as I just didn't know what they really wanted with the object and thats what made this an even better read.

The magic of time travel

This is, simply put, a fun series, the perfect antidote to a day of taking yourself too seriously.

Our heroine, Alf, has just returned from her travels, nursing a cold and recovering from heartache, when a mysterious stranger leaves a briefcase in her care. Weird, but isn't weird in her world? But the a skeleton is found in the wall, and Gwyn is clearly upset. Alf feels duty bound to solve the mystery surrounding the body in the wall, which is curiously bound to the briefcase. With the help of her friends and Mr. Hoo, she is able to recover an artifact and save the day.

Overall, this book is a fun read, a magical cozy in all senses.

Audiobook: I enjoyed this story as much as the others in the series. I felt for Alf as she dealt with the aftermath of traveling overseas. My interest was piqued by the mysterious suitcase, and once the skeleton was found interred within one of the walls of the inn, I was hooked, I liked the unusual spin which kept my curiosity alive. I thought Tara-Louise Kaye's narration was great and her performance provided new voices to the characters; however, there was some adjustment for me as I missed the voices from the previous narrator. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.

WITCHES, WIZARDS AND WALLED IN WONDERS
WITCHES, WIZARDS AND WALLED IN WONDERS
Old magic and the Wonky Inn renovations do not seem to go well together, who knew the need for additional toilets would cause this much trouble? I see the IT security ghost has moved on to greener pastures so to speak, in the last story I was pretty sure he had a bright future, good to see.
Overall another fun and entertaining book. This book has a new narrator Tara-Louise Kaye whom surprisingly sounded like the previous narrator by the second third of the book. Big tick from me. Recommended series. Recommended book,

Renovations at the Wonky Inn reveal a skeleton hidden in a walled off area protected by a powerful magic spell. Alfhild Daemonne is horrified that her ancestors may have been responsible for the death, and begins to investigate. A reappearing briefcase and a mysterious guest at the Inn help Alf and her friends solve the mystery. The characters continue to develop and their interactions are becoming more complex. I only hope that Alf finds a love interest worthy of her. This book is filled with magic, time travel and overarching story lines. I can’t wait to get to the next in the series. The narration is excellent.

I just love this series! Alf keeps coming across an "empty" briefcase and then finds a body in a wall during renovations. Just another day at the Inn, right? One of the things I like about these books is that it's not strictly a murder mystery, there are all kinds of problems that pop up for Alf to deal with and she pretty much takes them all in stride. We also get to know more about her great-grandmother in this one, too. I already can't wait for the next one.

The Wonky Inn is always a good place to visit for a surprise. When renovations reveal a bigger surprise than usual, Alf enlists Silvan to help solve her latest mystery. Jeannie Wycherley never lacks for new types of magical shenanigans to fill her Wonky Inn books with and it makes each new book a treat. My one complaint, and this is because he’s a favorite of mine, is George’s behavior. It seems out of character, although it does leave the field open for others, ahem Silvan. Skeletons in the closet? Close enough and it means another mystery at the Wonky Inn.

I just love this series. Each book is filled with fascinating characters and an interesting, well developed mystery. The book combines the best of a paranormal setting with a true mystery story, all laced with a heavy dose of humor that keeps the action light and the story fun. Each book also adds more depth to the already complex world of the Wonky Inn.

I love the Wonky Inn!

Highly recommended

A witch in time.

Here we find Alf coming home from holiday and being pursued by a briefcase! Having tried to get rid of it on a number of occasions Alf decides to study it. She also put her memory to work and remembered that the owner, a Mr W Wylie, had previously stayed at the inn. The plot thickens when she decides to give each room its own en suite and Gwyn gets upset about it. During the renovations she finds out why. Mr Wylie revisits the inn and Alf finds herself and Sylvan whisked away in time! Oh, and don’t let’s forget Mr Hoo.
Light on plot but good fun.

Witches, wizards, a wonky inn that is run by supernaturals and has ghosts on their staff - add a policeman who spent some time as a toad for cheating on her, a hidden body, and what more could Alfhild Daemonne expect? How much does her Great Grandmother know about this mystery? I loved this tale! What a great read - it really brought a smile to my face! :-)
