"I love you with every fiber of my being, Eleanor, but this love won't keep me alive, nor will it be able to protect you."
When Nora finds herself in the past, away from her mundane life, she chooses to take the place of a dead Princess. An arranged marriage with the soon-to-be King of the neighboring kingdom will help her discover love, friendship and hidden secret

Despoina Kemeridou is a multi-genre author, poet, and graphic designer. She started writing in 2009 and immediately knew this was what she wanted to do for the rest of her life.

She started self-publishing in 2018 and has since self-published three books. Currently, she is working on a dark fantasy retelling of a mixture between the myth of Hades and Persephone and the Beauty and the Beast fairytale.
I enjoyed this novella. I found it light and very entertaining. I liked the prologue a lot. Our main character, Nora, has a pretty hum drum life then she gets transported to a place where her life becomes extraordinary.
I might have like a bit more development and detail as to how she but it is easy enough to just go along with it.
Had a couple of nice twists in there which I always enjoy.
I would recommend it for anyone looking for a short read that will make you appreciate the ones you have in your life.
This was a fun short story with a fairytale like feel to it. Definitely a debut for this author, and the translation from the original Greek to English could use some editing, but a nice break from current reality.
I loved the concept of an old style fairy tale coupled with a modern time traveling twist. Despoina did a great job keeping the interest level high and I was intrigued to see how Nora, Lottie, and Jake ended up. I look forward to reading more of her works.
Fated to Meet You was a short fairy tale that I finished within an hour. It's a cute story about a girl who travels back in time to an unnamed kingdom and is immediately asked to pretend to be the recently-deceased princess so the kingdom has an heir. The relationship between Nora and Jake (the prince she is betrothed to) is quite rushed and I found myself wishing for more depth and interactions between them. It would've been nice to learn more about the setting and characters, but overall this was a quick, fun read with a nice twist.
This short book has a gentle, naïve charm. It is, essentially, a fairy tale. But a fairy tale for adults. As a reader, I enjoyed the story. As a writer, I found some elements in need of editing, but that’s so often the case these days that it hardly merits the mention. The central character, also the first-person narrator, is honest, credible, and easy to empathise with. The other characters are also well drawn. At one point, I feared the tale was heading for a literary dead-end, but the author has cleverly constructed the story to defeat that obstacle, and the denouement led to an ending that was both satisfactory and plausible. An enjoyable read.
Found this book on Twitter and checked it out to support the author. The cover is great, the plot premise is good, but the storytelling could have been better. Too much telling, not enough showing and a bit predictable. For a debut novel, however; not bad.
Nora and Make get together in the past. A curse is an issue. This is a love story across time. Most unusual in fact. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a very fast read.
In the mood for some historical romance and time travel? This short story was a quick delightful tale you can read in one sitting! A girl is transported to a cursed kingdom. A ghost. A prophecy. An arranged marriage to a cold prince. Lots of court intrigue. I enjoyed watching the story unfold!
Fated to Meet You is a tale about Nora, a young woman, who finds herself flung into the past, and away from her mundane life. Upon arriving in the past she finds herself in an unfamiliar room, with a mourning King and Queen, and their dead daughter, Princess Eleanor. As, according to the King, she looks exactly like their daughter and asks Nora to take her place as to not arouse suspicion with the public as to what happened to their real daughter. When Nora decides to take the role of princess, she's thrown into an arranged marriage with a soon-to-be-King of a neighboring kingdom, and discovering hidden secrets along with love along the way.
This story is a slow burn at first. It builds you up to the world that it is in and it reminds me of Kate & Leopold (one of the rare U.S. romance/comedy films that I enjoy) but done better, in my opinion. The story has a combination of first-person and third-person narrative; usually, this isn't my cup of tea, but with this tale it was enjoyable. The characters were believable and the tale filled with twists, turns, and danger. It was slightly cheesy in some parts, but that's what added charm to it. If you're interested in time travel, curses, romance, fairy tales, and kingdoms I recommend this story.
Fated to Meet You (2018) By Despoina Kemeridou is a wonderful short time travel read.
The story follows Nora who finds herself in the olden days after she time travels from 2020. Nora is an extremely likable character who is very easy to relate to. She is a young woman in her 20s, not overly pushed about having a relationship and who is just getting by each day with her work and her social life. But when she finds herself back in the past, she begins to go on an adventure she definitely wasn’t expecting to go on. She takes the place of a deceased princess and meets Jake, a prince, who she must marry to save her ‘parents’ from bankruptcy. But there is more to it all. A mysterious curse must be taken care of and Nora is more involved in it’s outcome than she first realizes.
Nora and Jake make a lovely couple. There is great adventure and historical romance all packed into his delightful short read. Very interesting and fast-paced with great characters and an intriguing concept. Kemeridou perfectly weaves the mundane with the magical and creates a world and characters who you care about. Some heart-wrenching moments ensue especially towards the end and it is a mark of great writing that you feel so sad with Nora and Jake in these moments. So super engrossing that I actually finished it in one sitting.
A nice little story with the feel of a modern fairytale
Fated to Meet You, with its time travelling twist, has the feel of a classic fairytale with witches and curses, and is presented in a clean and contemporary way. It has a very straightforward plot to follow, and is able to resolve the fairytale-like narrative in a satisfying way for those who know their fairytales.
A short but very enjoyable read, would recommend for anyone looking for an engaging book to while away an hour or so.
This fairy tale is a quick and enjoyable read. I loved the premise, and as it has been said in other reviews, it has great potential for a full novel. Some parts however were too quick and felt rushed, but overall I enjoyed it: especially the ending. Made me dream... ☺️
So I bought this book as a recommendation from the Writing Community on Twitter and I was surprised on how much I liked it. I highly recommend. It was a page turner.
This was lovely, quick read. Fated to Meet you read like a fable, and I don't think would look out of place in a treasury of fairy tales. There were a few editing issues, and I did feel that parts of the story were rushed a little... And would benefit from more fleshing out. But I enjoyed it, and would read more from this author.
FATED TO MEET YOU by Despoina Kemeridou (@DKemeridou) is an absolutely charming time travel romance. There’s an ancient curse, a royal prophecy, and plenty of adventure to captivate any and all audiences. Kemeridou pens a timeless tale (forgive the pun) of finding romance when least expected. Fans of OUTLANDER will obsess over this story.
This was a lovely book with a sweet theme--almost a dream within a dream. The entire time I was reading it, I was reminded of The Princess Bride. We follow the story through Nora's eyes and see her fantasy world unfold, along with her hero, Jake. I only wished for more and hope that the author will one day expand this story into a full length novel! I believe this is the author's first published work and, if so, it's very well done! A really sweet novella that will take you on a fun journey.
This is an odd, dream like tale that left me scratching my head at first. The resulting feeling of wonder and ethereal bliss was very fulfilling. Could this have been fleshed out to a bigger book? Definitely! Did it need to be? I can’t say. Remarkably satisfying for something that took about an hour to read
I really wanted to like this book. The reviews were fairly good and the story sounded interesting. So first - I need to say that I don't enjoy fantasy in general and I particularly don't enjoy a lot of detail about the fantasy world.
Here are some of the things I didn't like:
1 - The premise was not believable. Who would deliberately make a life-changing decision in a moment of intense confusion, without any pressure? Later, love and many other things seemed to come instantaneously as well. Every time a leap like that happened, I was left with a big, "WHAAAT?"
2- The editing was poor - I am not at all sure the story was originally written in English. In some cases, poor English made sentences difficult to understand.
3- Although, admittedly, I did not make it to the end of the book (I skimmed over the last ~50%), I didn't understand what the prologue had to do with the book - it just sounded very similar to a popular tv show.
I think that people who adore fantasy and don't expect elements of the story to be at all believable might enjoy the story. I, unfortunately, did not.
Nice, quick read, for an hour, or three? My first session reading this book quickly put me into an afternoon nap, that I loved, and after which, I felt refreshed; but I didn't come back until the day after the next. When I came back, I read the rest of it in two brief sessions. I enjoyed the book because it read just like a fairy tale that I had read before, but knew I never had. The narrative is written in an unassuming, simplistic nature, which mostly works to its favor, however, I believe I noticed a handful of small errors throughout, although they weren't a problem.
The ending was a thrill, and everything came together really well, then all of the pieces connected themselves back to where the narrative had wanted to take it in the first place. So, it's certainly well structured for only 50 pages. Maybe there could have been a few more twists and turns, or some more exploration of the world, castle, and politics concerning the realm at large, but I guess that would have also required a larger work.
I enjoyed my time with this read, and would certainly be interested to read more from Kemeridou one-day!
I got this a while back and finally found the time to read it. It's cute and short so it didn't really take long at all. It'd be a perfect story for some half an hour of commuting!
I really wanted to give this story 5 stars because I love time travel stories, but it didn't quite hit full marks with me. I think the characters were likable, but I didn't manage to fully grasp them. Some of them felt a bit paper thin, and I think that's because of the length of the book.
I actually think this would have worked really well as a full-length novel.
Still, I loved the ending and it made me smile. This romantic gives it 4 ****.
A charming modern day fairy tale. However, I felt that some of the character names didn't really suit a bygone era.
If I understand correctly, the original was written in Greek, then translated into English which might explain the occasional awkwardness in sentence structure.
A cute little story that I think suffered for being so cute and little. I missed more background and world building and some of the characters felt very distant/thin. Still, despite of it, it was a cute little read and I can appreciate a basic good story on its own.
" Το Παιχνίδι της Μοίρας"... Είναι ένα ωραίο βιβλίο το οποίο είναι απλά γραμμένο με πολύ φαντασία και ευχάριστο στο διάβασμα. Ενώ το διάβαζα με ταξίδεψε σε άλλες εποχές. Μπράβο Δέσποινα!!! Πραγματικά το απόλαυσα. Θεωρώ ότι είναι μια πολύ καλή πρώτη συγγραφή βιβλίου.
This is a nice little time travel story written by an author whose first language isn't English. I think that's important to know before judging the writing.
I quite enjoyed the tale, it had fairy-tale, fantasy and paranormal elements and was a pretty easy-going read.
Could certainly be a diamond in the rough! At like 48 pages, this is a very strong example of what a fantasy story should be. I read it in one setting, it is a very fast pace, reads like a 4k word short story. The real power in this story is the imaginative storyline, really great stuff here! A kind of bummed out girl lands in a completely unexpected place and has to deal with a puzzle of a curse. The climax is tricky, the ending is cool. My only sad thought is that there is so much story there left untold. A debut work, but a sure sign of a talented writer with a lot to offer the world !!!! Pick up this neat little story, I think you will really enjoy it!!!!
