Lord Tempesto is a snake in every sense. As a human, he is slimy, deceitful, and manipulative, but when he’s denied what he wants, he transforms into a gigantic, powerful snake. He wants nothing more than to rule the kingdom for himself, and he’ll stop at nothing to get what he wants.

Princess Melina dreams of marrying a knight in shining armor so she can rule her father’s kingdom someday. But when monster Lord Tempesto captures her and threatens to destroy her beloved kingdom if she doesn’t marry him, she has no choice but to submit to the hideous monster’s demands.

James, the son of a knight, hears about Princess Melina’s plight and sets out on the long journey to rescue her. But his own skills aren’t enough to win the fight against such a ruthless monster with strong, sinewy arms, and it takes teamwork between the captive and her rescuer to save the kingdom from the monster for good.

The Knight in Battered Armor shows children of all ages the importance of doing what is right no matter what and not being afraid to protect what is most important.

This adorable children’s story features colorful and unique artwork and an important message.

With a fairytale feel, Brianna Tibetts tells a story of danger, courage, and doing what is right. And even more, a story that shows what’s seen on the outside of a person doesn’t always reflect the status of their heart.

If you’re looking for something new to read at bedtime with your child(ren), The Knight in Battered Armor is a wonderful option. Moms and Dads will definitely want to read to young ones as the vocabulary is more middle grade, but what better excuse to spend some special time with the kids?

Princess Melina is kind and compassionate, her parents are wise and want to help her find a suitable husband. Then one of Melina's would-be suitors kidnaps her and locks her up in a tower. Many knights attempt to rescue her, but only one has the courage to face the beast holding her captive.

Though battered and well-worn on the outside, it is up to the courageous man inside the distressed armor to free Princess Melina.

Suitable for young readers, whether to be read aloud to young ones or read by an early reader of chapter book skill level. This is a charming fairy tale with a twist. 50-some full-color illustrated pages compliment the tale, with cartoon-style illustrations in appropriate color schemes. It reminded me a little of the stained glass style illustrations in the opening scenes of Disney's original Beauty and the Beast.

Strong themes of courage, character, and wisdom run through this book, as well as compassion, with symbolism throughout. I really liked how the story emphasized strong character, and doing the right thing as well as how the Princess didn't just sit on the sideline and wait to be rescued.

A brand new fairy tale with a twist, great to share with the young girls in your life.

I have two sons, ages ten and fourteen, and decided to read one chapter a night to them before bed. Honestly, I was afraid they'd stick their noses up in the air and Mom would be forced to go sulk and read it alone. But they enjoyed it! Even begged each night to read more than one chapter. For this momma who realizes her days forming these sort or memories are numbered, it was something I deeply treasured. At one point in the fight scene, they grabbed their toy swords and fought each other while I read.

The story was exciting as it followed the traditional fairy tale form. You have the monstrous villain, the brave hero, and the damsel in distress. The knight was a great example in doing what is right without expectation of reward because it is the right thing to do, and the princess was smart and compassionate. Of course, you can't have a fairy tale without some sort of battle with good vs. evil. As I stated earlier, that was my boys' favorite part.

It is definitely a story to read aloud, as the vocabulary is a little high level for young readers. I'd put it somewhere near a middle school level, but even if the younger readers don't know the exact meaning, they can still greatly enjoy the story.

Brianna Tibbets tells the story of a knight in battered armor (James) who behaves like a knight in shining armor. In this fairy tale, the hero is not a knight but the son of a knight who wears his father’s old armor to go fight the monster who has taken Princess Melina. The story reminds me of the fairy tales of old, with knights fighting for justice and winning the hand of a beautiful princess in the process. The story is different from old fairy tales in that, James has no desire for reward. In fact he sets out to rescue the princess before he even knows a reward has been offered. Readers will agonize with Princess Melina as she watches James battle for his life, her life and the life of her people. Will he succeed? It is a fairy tale so I’m sure you can guess the ending.

Liz Stockton’s illustrations are cartoon-like. Her style reminds me of Superbook, the animated cartoons from Christian Broadcasting Network from the 1980’s. The illustrations complement the text.

I would not hesitate to add The Knight in Battered Armor to my K-12 Christian School library. It is appropriate for students in the mid-elementary grades.

I want to thank JustReads Publicity Tours for the complimentary e-copy of The Knight in Battered Armor.

The Knight in Battered armor is an early chapter book with plenty of pictures to still feel like a picture book. It reads like a fairy tale, with the valiant knight going after the ferocious monster to save the princess. What was unique though, was that it was his heart, humility and selflessness that set him apart from the others and not simply his sword-fighting skills. He didn't save the princess to prove his own superiority but his honest concern for the princess' well-being.

I would recommend this as a great read-aloud story for bedtime. I'm always a fan of reading time with kids and believe it's a great way to get them excited about reading on their own. Reading levels can be difficult to attach to books simply because different areas have different ways to classify them, and kids of different ages can be at very different levels. There were certainly a few words that could be trickier for young readers but overall it didn't appear to be a very difficult read. I thought it was an engaging story and one I believe kids will enjoy.

The Knight and Battered Armor has so much to entertain your child, whether it is a child old enough to read, or a child who enjoys being read to. In this story you will find a nice and beautiful princess, castles but also battles because there are people who dont want to do the right thing. I think you will find this story will have something all ages can learn from because it teaches rights from wrongs in a way children of all ages can understand.

And the graphics take up the entire pages and the text is written over the pictures in a very neat way. And they are pictures that relate to the story and bring it to life in a vivid way. I usually do not read books about Knights and such, but I am happy that I read this delightful story and I enjoyed it much. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has children of all ages! It's a really nice way to help your child understand right from wrong.

I rec'd this book from JustRead Tours and the author to read and review. I was not expected or required to write a positive review. The opinions in this review are mine only.

My kids are getting old enough that they like to sit and listen to me read them longer books, so the length of this one was perfect! I enjoyed the story of Princess Melina and James. It got a little intense for the kids at time, with the villain, but it is an excellent story of character. It brings up some good discussion points on doing the right thing, even when its tough. This is a great story to read with grade school and middle school age kids. The illustrations were a bit more cartoonish than I prefer, but they are colorful and appealing to my kids. This book won me over with it's excellent message.

This children’s story with castles, a monster, battles, and a princess has a message for all ages. Quirky, colorful illustrations enliven the pages, but the tale itself doesn’t need any pictures. You can see it in your head. The text sometimes winds through the drawings, and in some places the white font is hard to read. I recommend getting an actual book because on a kindle the text is small and each page has to be enlarged for easier reading. Plus, a physical book is much better for sharing with children. The dramatic story could lead to good discussion too. I received a copy from the author/publisher. All opinions are my own.

This was a sweet story of integrity, kindness and selflessness. The Princess Melina had the biggest heart, which you can see throughout the story as she gets ready to sacrifice herself and any future happiness to save her people while they’re being threatened. And James (our Knight in Battered Armor) goes to help rescue the princess, not because of money or marrying her, but because she needs him and he just wants to help free her (and he’s never even met her!). I really enjoyed this story and am looking forward to reading it to my kids!

The Knight in Battered Armor by Brianna Tibbetts was such a cute story! It’s themes of courage, honor, and simply doing the right thing even when it’s not the easy thing (in this case, even in the face of terrible danger) are the morals that kids (and even adults) need more of these days. Although parts were somewhat predictable, I thoroughly enjoyed the quick read, and the illustrations by Liz Stockton were so adorably fun and unique! I highly recommend to anyone who has children or simply enjoys reading children’s chapter books. — I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher. This is a "totes cutez" read! I loved the artwork/pictures throughout, and the characters were charming -- and not just the knight, though he is my favorite. ;) Middle-grade readers will enjoy working through the book, and earlier readers will enjoy the pictures as they work toward getting the text.

This is one parents would even enjoy reading -- and rereading -- to their children. A book for the whole family! Much like anyone can enjoy Toy Story, the whole family will enjoy this one and get something a little different out of it.

A children's chapter book with a great lesson. I enjoyed the stylized drawings and message, plus it has a great title! In my opinion, the vocabulary was too advanced for younger kids. However, I think it would be perfect for advanced readers or kids 10+. Definitely recommending this one!

This was such a sweet story with beautiful lessons for young and old alike! I love that the main characters armor was not pristine but instead battle worn and proven. Such a beautiful picture of passing down a way of life that stands the test of time.🤗

Great book for your older elementary readers. It has a great theme within it of doing what's right no matter the cost or what others say.

Cute, easy to read, just enough suspense to keep kids enthralled. Definitely, a must read. I really appreciated what great lessons it was teaching.

Plus boys really love to read about knights and battles! I have three boys in the age range of 10-12 so this was a hit at our house! I received an ecopy of this book so I read it out loud to my kids. Both girls and boys sat enthralled and did not want me to stop reading when anyone needed a break.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants good reading for their children. It has a great lesson to teach so it's not just fluffed to keep them entertained while destroying brain cells. Even my younger children enjoyed the read.

There are a few bits which could be considered scary. My kids love this type of knight off to rescue though. Our little guy age two sat in a lap and was not scared if that's helpful to know. All listened spellbound though. I like to think it's my reading voice that keeps them listening but the story line is probably the real winner!

I received this book from JustRead Tours. Opinions shared are mine.

The Knight in Battered Armor is illustrated in a way that will appeal to younger ones, but the story is one that older kids will appreciate.

The vocabulary in this story is quite advanced. For example, terms such as “slick stranger” and “dramatic flair that demanded attention” might be too nuanced for the younger crowd. Most toddlers won’t recognize the word “decimate.” You could use this as an opportunity to teach your child how to use context clues. I think it would be hard to determine the plot from the illustrations, though, which is how many children infer the story.

The characters are vivid and captivating, though. Young readers will enjoy the contrast between the good guy and bad guy. The Knight in Battered Armor follows the typical fairy tale format with an emphasis on looking past appearances. Ironically, I read this in ebook format, and I think that took away from my reading experience. Perhaps it would be more interesting in print. The illustrations don’t match the descriptive storyline, which is so important when reading a picture book.

The Knight in Battered Armor was a actually a very cute story. The characters were all very memorable and I thought that the writing style was very fit for a younger audience. The only complaint I have about it is the rather large words used throughout the story. As an older reader, I personally didn't mind them, but I kept on thinking that no young child would be able to understand some of the words. As I said above, it was a cute story with some very good themes that I think are good for young readers to learn about, but the bigger words used throughout didn't seem to fit a children's book.

This is a great read aloud for kids just before bedtime. The pictures are bold and colorful. The themes of courage and character are great for kids to hear just before falling asleep.
It definitely has the fantasy feel with a villain, the brave hero, and a captured princess. I don't know if older children who are very good readers would be interested in this book, but I do think the reading level is a little to high for younger grades.

Over all this is a great read aloud.

I thought this book was a cute children's story. It wasn't simply your typical knight and princess rescue tale. I really enjoyed that the characters displayed a lot of admirable qualities that made this story more unique and meaningful than the typical fairy tale rescue. Themes of courage, self sacrifice, loyalty and teamwork were very visible in The Knight in Battered Armor. The bright illustrations and an quirky names of the characters were another feature of this book that made it really memorable. An enjoyable kids book that you might want to check out for young readers.

A delightful story with fun illustrations, The Knight in Battered Armor is sure to please school-aged children, and maybe even their parents too.

The princess, her parents have decided, needs a husband and when they put out the word prospective suitors could apply for the position, numerous characters show up. I say characters because these guys are just not the kind of guys a parent, even a king and queen, would want for their child. When one suitor takes matters into his own hands by kidnapping the princess and locking her up in a high tower, the king and queen despair.

There was one man, a lowly knight, who wished to seek the princess’ hand in marriage, but he was not big and strong or smart like the others;or so he thought. When others failed to rescue the princess, the lowly knight sets out to try his hand. Along the way the knight is beset with all kinds of intrusions and temptations, yet instead of succumbing to these distractions he moved forward with his mission, with honor and integrity.

The illustrations are very good, and the storyline well-developed. Unfortunately for me, my Kindle is a black/white version which created some issues regarding the ability to clearly see both the illustrations and the script. I suggest one purchase a hard copy or use a Kindle that has color.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via Just Read Tours and am not required to provide a complimentary review. All thoughts and opinions therein are solely my own.
