1. Finding purpose is important to live a meaningful life
The book says that people who have purpose and have lived that purpose are more active, are healthier and they have a reason to wake up everday. The book also says that we do not have to wait for our retirement to find, to do something meaningful.
Reading the book made me realise that if our students have a purpose in life, then we are looking at productive youths that will help shape the future of our country.
2. To find purpose we have to look within first and sometimes move to the periphery
To discern our purpose, we have to know what is our calling in life. We have to know what are our core values , know what are our strengths and life giving goals. These four actions I believe can be found if we look within first and listen to the needs of the world. To listen to the needs of the world, if we stay at the core (cities) where we tend to gravitate cause everything is available there, sometimes this might cause hindrance to find our purpose. Like Angelo Valencia, found his purpose at Mount Pulag -the highest peak in Luzon, sometimes we have to take the path less travelled and maybe we might find purpose in the most unexpected place.
Moving out to the periphery, maybe our GRIP immersion program at RIGSS was just that and how we saw the needs of people there and that gave us the idea of helping them build the toilet.
3. Our purpose should transcend self and find a shared purpose with our community
Everyone of us have unique talents and gifts and to find one self we have to lose in the service of others. We cannot find our purpose by ourselves because we belong in a community and our purpose must be lived out in community. And as we share our purpose with others, our purpose will impact them and theirs will impact ours.

very readable.
because the author is Malaysian and the interviewees were mostly Malaysian/ASEAN/Asian and from a corporate background, I felt that it was very relevant to me personally. The messages in the book are not particularly groundbreaking but they are a good reminder. It is a good read for those feeling uninspired by their current job/environment and trying to find a bigger purpose.

In this book, Alvin Ung lays a path that draws the reader into a journey of piecing together the constituent parts necessary to help succinctly define your calling in life. To help embed the learning the author has included inspiring and diverse real life stories that the he has personally encountered across Asia. The book itself is presented in an engaging and exciting format.
