This was my go-to Spanish-English dictionary in college back in the Dark Ages. I've since replaced it several times. The current version is the one I recommended to my ESL classes. Sure, it's bigger and heavier than some "compact" dictionaries, but it's also easy to use, has legible (and large enough to see easily) font, and practical examples and explanations.
Smart phone translation apps are handy, but I notice the folks in my classes retained more information and grasped nuances of meaning better when they looked in up in a print dictionary than when relying on their "instant crutch" phone apps.
(Note: this is about the print edition only. I tried the e-book version and the navigation and format was horrible.)
