L.T.C. Rolt contributed to the history of engineering through his books on canals, railways and other topics. In 1973, Rolt was awarded an honorary degree by the University of Bath and the following year, after his death, the University decided to honour his memory by establishing a fund to appoint a number of Rolt Research Fellows.
