I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars

Thrilling, heart pounding, exhilarating, edge of your seat, not knowing what will happen next type of book. I am so happy to have had the chance to read this amazing book. I could not put this book down! What drew me to this book was the fact that it reminded me of episodes of the X-Files and I love books that are categorized as post-apocalyptic/biomedical thriller.

Right away you are sucked into the story with the prologue of how the “darkness” began before it impacted the people of present day Kodiak, Alaska. What is different/what I LOVED about this book is how this was written. You get to see how the events unfold through the eyes of different characters points of view. Even though the storyline switches between the characters, you are able to keep track of what is going on in the story. I think that it really helped that the author told you which character it was. I read another book that was written in the same fashion, The Fifth Wave, but my issue was that you didn’t know which character it was until you read a little further into the chapter, which honestly got a bit confusing after awhile. The author does an amazing job providing readers with a background to each of the characters in order to help you feel some sort of connection and understanding to who they are and how each of the characters dealt with all the events that were taking place (I won’t go into detail about these events, because obviously I want you to read the book).

I also enjoyed the difference in how the book was divided up. Most books of course are divided up by chapters with a specific amount of pages within each chapter. This book, however, is very different. It is instead divided up by days since the nightmare was unleashed. Doing this gives readers a clearer picture on the timeline of the events. And I must say, each day that passed, I was getting more and more anxious to find out what would happen to each of the characters. I almost felt like yelling at the book because at the end of each character perspective, it was like a mini cliffhanger and then you were shown another perspective.

I enjoyed that this story took place on a remote island because this is just another obstacle that is in the way of the characters being able to escape the horrors that they are facing (yes, you will have to read the book to find out what these are).

I really believe that if you are a fan of government coverups, horror, biomedical thrillers and or post-apocalyptic books, then I HIGHLY recommend this book. I want to point out that this isn’t a young adult book, BUT, fans of young adult books will absolutely enjoy this book. I would say it was a very nice change of pace for me.

I hope that you enjoyed my review and stay tuned because I will get the chance to interview the author!!

Hater meets zombie

Pretty good story based around a event that takes place on Alaska. There are some parts of the book are just epic carnage. I could.see a potential for sequels.

It wasn't bad. Some good action and tension. But a silly amount of tropes and cliches. I did however very much like the ending.

People that were at the dig started getting sick, and then starting to ooze green and black stuff from their mouth. They also started to attack those that were not infected. See where I am going with this. People start to realize that things are bad, like really bad, when all of the communications go down. In hopes of saving those who have not been affected, the police chief, a man with a past, decides to hit the Oh Shit button. okay that is not what it is called, but seriously, that is what it is. Anyways the government gets involved, and we know how sideways that can get, guess what? It goes sideways, people die, lots and lots of people. A side plot that is part of the main plot, but also not develops and you start to learn about the Police Chiefs, past, which of course can't be wine and roses.

All sarcasm aside, this is really a good book, and it does not have the stereotypical "not infected run to mall" well because there isn't a mall. The author was able to detail the land in such a way that it seems like you are there with the uninfected. However it goes beyond this, into a more indepth medical thriller than I originally thought. The author also seems to have at least a grasp, or a good consultant who knows the ins and outs of the medical field enough to make the scientists sound real.

If you like suspense filled intrigue, with lots of action, you'll like this book. A great ending that leaves you wanting more as the author draws you into the characters and adds a twist right at the end. Look forward to the authors next book and I hope it's not far off.

Writing was terrible, but the story was unique and interesting. Characters were engaging, but again, not well written. It was an easy read, and I enjoyed it despite its flaws.
