Whimsical, appealing drawings spring like magic from the page as young artists learn how to make charming creations from simple shapes. Each step is carefully shown and finished in full color. Fun examples and instructions all but guarantee success for budding cartoonists! Starting with simple shapes and the most basic materials, professional cartoonists Steve Barr and Freddie Levin show young artists the essential skills involved in combining shapes to make characters and objects, simplifying and coloring them. With clear, step-by-step instructions, young artists will learn to draw a variety of fun and friendly cartoon monsters. Starting with the basic shapes, the easily-followed lessons lead to full-color final drawings. And in addition to traditional favorites such as Frankenstein, Count Dracula, the Mummy and vampires, Steve Barr includes a number of originals. 1-2-3 Draw Cartoon Monsters includes plenty of humor and encouragement, including a reproducible cartoonist's apprentice certificate.
Steve Barr began his cartooning career when he was in fourth grade and drew Mickey Mouse on his classroom desk. Eventually, he realized that it was way more effective (and FAR less trouble) to sketch on paper.
By the time he reached fifth grade, he had begun creating his own comic books and selling them to his classmates for their lunch money. Apparently, Barr was quite successful in his efforts, because most of his classmates are still skinny and he's a bit chubby.
He sold his first cartoon to a magazine in seventh grade, and another that same year to a nationally syndicated newspaper feature. And he's been selling his silly drawings ever since.
In an attempt to share the fun and joy he's experienced throughout his life, Steve Barr has created quite a few books that teach young children (and adults) how to draw cartoons of their very own.
His latest, "Draw Crazy Creatures" has just been released by IMPACT books. "Draw Amazing Animals" will be hitting the bookstores in the fall.
He's also the author of eleven books in the "1-2-3 Draw" series from Peel Productions.
