Returning to his home continent, Sam Smith expects his life to return to normal, but his hopes are dashed as the northern half of Holding is embroiled in an international war. To reclaim his place in Toraltian society, Sam must use his talent with a blade to navigate through war, politics, and personal grudges to find the home that he seeks.
I write action/adventure fiction with a definite proclivity towards Sword & Sorcery. I like magicians, but I'm less partial to unicorns, dragons, elves and dwarves. But give me a hero with a magic sword and I'll make him sing... Wait, I already have!
I've published a number of works under the CasiePress imprint and there are more to come.
I'm an older guy (Guy!), married and all my kids have grown up and given me grandkids to dote over. I've read thousands of books and found that in most cases, I'd rather write than read.
To be honest, it felt rushed together. I would have preferred a more detailed and drawn out story ( in a good way) , however it was decent at best, a disappointment at worst. Like I mentioned, it felt rushed and there was no feeling of satisfaction or closure at the end. I put off reading this as soon as it was released , partly due to being in the midst of another series, and because of that, wanting to wait and be able to give it the full attention it deserved. I was lefr feeling mildly disappointed. Some authors end a series better than others, and while this certainly isn't the worst, it is also far from the best. Mediocre is probably the best word for it. I was hoping for so much more as I came to love this series, and it saddens me that I didn't enjoy it as much as I would have liked.
It may not be Tom Clancy or Shakespeare, but this is a good series to read. Most folks, when they "read", they " hear" the words in their head. That is called sub-vocalizing and you can only read as fast as you can say the words. So, if you are brave enough to try something new, look at the words. Do you have to say them to understand them? Why can't you short circuit the part where you say the words? If you can look at each word, know what it means in the context, go to the next word and do the same thing, over and over. Don't hear the words, read them correctly! I will confess, this was taught to a 25 y o, and he had a hard time, because of habit in reading wrong.
Mr. Antibes, you write a great story! But you need a good editor. From some of your sentence structure I assume English isn't your original language. Also you sometimes leave a word in the sentence looking like you changed your mind either about what or how you want to proceed. I read all five of the Without Magic series one after the other and enjoyed them. As author myself I salute you.
This 5th 'Without Magic' book starts off dragging along and suddenly dramaticly explodes into a complex plot with the return of all the great characters from earlier books. I did not anticipate this at all! And, it did not slow down until "they lived happily ever after" as the saying goes.
Loved this book! All of the character and skills and the mc's crafting were masterfully developed and used to create a wonderful successful crescendo! Awesomely well done!
This installment felt a little rushed and some of the events Sam goes through felt a little contrived and/or to convenient. Was still an enjoyable read though.
A must read, as usual the story is very original and gives you hours of enjoyment. Filled with adventure, magic, family, violence just the way I like them.
