Harriet Muncaster studied illustration at Norwich University College of the Arts before going on to get an MA in children’s book illustration at the Cambridge School of Art. In creating the art for her first book for children, she was thrilled to have found a good outlet for her lifelong fascination with miniatures. She lives in Hertfordshire, England.
Another delightful book in the Isadora Moon series!
The illustrations are adorable, fantastical, magical, and fill me with such delight! They beautifully add to the text! And the text itself is all of the above and I have such respect for Muncaster's skill and weaving in *just enough* "peril/drama" for the book to have stakes and pacing, but not so much drama/peril that I'd worry about sharing this with young readers. Moreover, every time a concern is raised, it's usually quickly resolved in the next chapter. And while I wouldn't want to see that in a book for teens or adults, it feels just right for the target audience since they won't have to worry over any plot point for very long. I should also point out that, as an adult, I was still invested in the story and my inner child - ahem adult - squealed with delight over this story. That said, Muncaster still lays out plot points early on that come back into play throughout the story, and I adored the message of the story (very much reminds me of the message of one of my favorite classics The Ant and the Elephant, but this is a bit kinder of a story).
Oh, and did I mention how much I loved all the ballet and theater references! Not sure if Muncaster has a background in either, but it felt very authentic to me!!
I adore these Isadora Moon books! They are so charming and fun. The illustrations are full of the most darling details that always make me smile. The stories are well-written, the characters all feel well-drawn. I've read the series out-of-order but hope to get to the rest of them in the next few weeks as they are perfect for someone like me who loves a bit of Halloween fun without the scary-factor. (The books are not centered around Halloween and could be read any time of year, but since Isadora's father is a vampire and they live in a castle, etc. there are definitely some elements that fit well for this season.)
I danced ballet for many years, taught ballet, and was heavily involved in community theater, so I am always drawn to books that feature the performing arts. I loved Isadora Moon's trip to the ballet and feel that Muncaster effectively captured the magic of theatrical performances. Now, it is quite implausible that but I let that slide as I appreciated the overarching message of being kind to those in need.
Isadoran oma idoli on Tatjana Tutu, jonka näkeminen näyttämöllä on Isadoran suurimpia haaveita. Kun koulu tekee luokkaretken Liisa Ihmemaassa -balettinäytökseen, jonka yhden roolin tanssii Tatjana Tutu on Isadora onnensa kukkuloilla. Häntä hieman arveluttaa omien vanhempiensa ilmoittautuminen vapaaehtoisiksi retkelle...
Hellyyttävä, lämminhenkinen ja ennen kaikkea pyytentöntä auttamista korostava teos.
This was entertaining at the time, but the plot is pretty weak. In this one, Isadora and her class go to a ballet starring her favorite ballerina. She loses pink rabbit and then finds him, and the ballerina, and she's injured. Pink Rabbit takes over her role as the white rabbit in Alice in Wonderland and all is well. It's fine but kind of a stretch and forgettable.
Isadora Moon loves being half vampire and half fairy. Her fairy mother changed her beloved Pink Rabbit into a living creature and he never leaves her side. Isadora's father is a friendly vampire. They are a unique family and therefore Isadora goes to a school where the children are also unique, a school for humans. The school has planned a wonderful outing, Isadora and Pink Rabbit love ballet. When they are going on a school trip to a show with Isadora's idol as the lead she's over the moon. However, when she's there she loses Pink Rabbit and might miss the performance. Will she be able to save the day?
Isadora Moon Goes to the Ballet is another wonderful story about the adorable Isadora Moon. Isadora is sweet with quite a bit of spunk and she has the most brilliant ideas. I absolutely love reading about her adventures. They're sweet and surprising and they always make me smile. I love how Harriet Muncaster writes about a main character that will melt every reader's heart. Isadora Moon is completely herself and she's such a happy go lucky character that every word is a joy to read.
Harriet Muncaster combines fabulous stories with beautiful drawings. The Isadora Moon stories are so much fun to look at and they are perfect to read over and over again. Most children will fall in love with her endearing personality and her funky parents. I love the world building together with the kindness and positivity behind the stories, it's a perfect combination. The cute pink and black colors are the ideal finishing touch. The Isadora Moon books are absolute must-reads for anyone who loves a creative story.
Like super cute illustrations and very cool story! I loved the way that the charecters were drawn and there behavior. My favorite part was when The Pink Bunny(cute name) went on stage! Adorbs! 🐰❤️😘🐕🍯🐇

Isadora wanted to be a ballet dancer like Tatiana Tutu, Isadora has been practising recently and her Rabbit called Pink Rabbit has helped her out a little, her Mum turned Pink Rabbit alive with her magic wand.
I think these books are very cool and very pretty. I’ve read six of these books, I read a whole book and I liked it that much that I read it in one whole evening. My favourite part was when Isadora knocked on Tatiana’s door and asked her if she was okay because Tatiana Tutu was crying because she fell over on the way to the Theatre. This was my favourite part because I liked Isadora’s kindness to Tatiana Tutu, Tatiana gave Isadora a present as well.
The show was about Alice in Wonderland, the book copied Alice in Wonderland’s tea party. Harriet Muncaster is an author and an illustrator too and this is one of my favourite things about the book is her beautiful pictures. I can’t wait for her new book to come out. It's called Mirabelle Gets up to mischief. She is half witch, half fairy, totally naughty. I want to read the new book because it's from the world of Isadora Moon. They are not identical because Isadora is half vampire and Mirabelle is half witch.
The last Isodora Moon I still wanted/had to read. This time Isadora goes to ballet with her class!
I was so delighted when I saw that one of my libraries had this one! And in English even! Wow! This is the only one I still had to read, and I was already thinking I wouldn't be able to.
But I have to say it wasn't as fun as the others. Mostly because that annoying piece of fluff is taking a main role, Pink Rabbit. Sorry, I just don't like him. I am already thanking the heavens that he can't talk, because I sure would have dropped the series with the first book then. But still, I was looking forward to fun ballet, instead I got an annoying fluff thing taking over everything. :|
I did like the rest of the book though, I quite loved how the parents went out of their way to come along and volunteer. Especially the dad, since he is a vampire and he thrives at nighttime. Though I was a bit annoyed with how the dad didn't seem to remember that it was x date and then also took ages with his fricking hair. Dear Lord man, stop doing that. :| But other than that, plus points to the parents!
It was also fun to see Isadora and her classmates interact. I know this may sound weird, but I am so happy that Isadora is accepted in their circle. They are so sweet even though she isn't human. Plus they are so accepting of her parents. Some kids may be frightened, but these kids just love Isadora's parents and think they are really cool. I am still wondering if there are more kids like Isadora in normal schools, or if all the vampire or fairies are just in the schools made for them.
The art is still adorable and cute, and I just can't stop loving the colour scheme of pink/white/black. It just fits so perfectly with our little vampire/fairy family!
I do hope that one day we will have more Isadora Moon books, I am sure there are many more adventures for her in the future.
〰️𝗜𝗦𝗔𝗗𝗢𝗥𝗔 𝗠𝗢𝗢𝗡 𝗚𝗢𝗘𝗦 𝗧𝗢 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗧〰️ 🪶 Autor:Harriet Muncaster.
This book kind of reminded me of another children’s book I read about ballet called “My Cat does Ballet.” They are similar because they both find clever and creative ways to relate ballet to things it represent to help kids understand what ballet is like. In my cat does ballet ballet is likened to cats in the way they leap, prance, twirl, and move softly and effortlessly on their feet. There is a step in ballet called pas de chat meaning step of the cat so you know its true. Isadora Moon is half fairy and half vampire (her mom is a fairy and her dad is a vampire) and ballet is fairy-like and somewhat vampish as well. its enchanting, dainty, unreal, elegant, and the reality of the life of a ballet dancer can be quite haunting as well. In the pointe shoes that dancers wear there is also a piece called a vamp. isadora has a pet rabbit that ends up performing on stage in the ballet she goes to see. Rabbits leap like ballerinas and are sweet innocent creatures like ballerinas are portrayed so its clever once again. isadora dreams of being a ballerina and she and her family are the only non-humans of the story and Isadora ends getting the closest to being on stage with her favorite ballerina than anyone else in the story. To me, this kind of implied that ballerinas are half fairy and half vampire in a way. The more mystical, illusionary, and enchanting you are, the further you will go in ballet. Nice intro to ballet for kids.
At the age of 24, I’m not embarrassed to say I absolutely LOVE Isadora Moon- I would have adored these books as a child and they are definitely my guilty pleasure.
As always, the illustrations are absolutely phenomenal. Harriet does a wonderful job of filing the pages with magic and wonder- I absolutely love her artwork.
There were a few reasons I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the others I’ve read so far; the focus on the dads hair, the fact that Isadora snuck backstage and how Pink Rabbit was the main focus of this story.
I hope my son, when he’s old enough to read, reads these books but the vanity of the dad put me off a little. I was hoping he’d go out with his hair all messy and people would compliment him and he’d feel a little better about his appearance and not feel the need to always dress up.
My favourite instalment so far is still Isadora Moon Goes to School
Young Isadora--half-fairy, half-vampire--and her magical pink rabbit love all things ballet but especially their favorite dancer, Tatiana Tutu. Isadora is so excited that her class gets to go on a field trip to a local ballet. Soon after they arrive, Isadora loses Pink Rabbit. Can she find him before the curtain rises?
Another great addition to the sweet Isadora Moon series. I enjoy the twist on the traditional realistic fiction first chapter book. The only difference between these titles and other everyday school adventures is that Isadora's mom is a fairy and her dad is a vampire-but those changes are enough to make this series hold its own.
