I cannot understand why these classic works ever went out of print,as far as technical expositions of Aikido go,the series contains everything you need to know from a reference book.Alongside Gozo Shioda's books on Yoshinkan aikido these are absolute classics.
Saito sensei is clear and methodical and presents the Iwama system very coherently.Photographic demonstrations back up the written descriptions, which in the original editions are sometimes awkwardly translated.I would encourage every student of this art to seek out these works,as they contain enough technical inspiration for many years of study.
The volume on weapons forms is particularly useful.
The so called 'golden generation' of O Sensei's deshi such as Saito,Tohei and Shioda are responsible for the modern systematic presentation of aikido that we know today.
A definite must-have for aikido students.
