To win their queen’s heart, this pair must risk it all.

Royan Watson lived by three simple rules: No regrets, no relationships, and no slowing down. No exceptions. Then steady, reliable, and sexy as hell Owen Connors crossed his orbit, and Royan’s rules went out the airlock.

Astek station is in chaos and Tiana Astor has been sent to set things right. But no briefing or data files could prepare the ice queen of Astek Corp for the secrets, lies, and temptations she’ll find out at the edge of civilized space.

Susan lives out on the Canadian west coast surrounded by open water, dear family and good friends. She’s jumped out of perfectly good airplanes on purpose and accidentally swum with sharks on the Great Barrier Reef. If the world ends, she plans to survive as the spunky, comedic sidekick to the heroes of the new world, because she’s too damned short and out of shape to make it on her own for long.

Writing is her joy, her escape from reality and the only way she knows of to quiet the nagging harridan of a muse the universe assigned to her.

Holy FRAX! This series keeps getting better and better. It is now my favorite of the series. This book drew me in and had me hooked from the very beginning. Secrets, secrets, and more secrets. There is action, steam, murder, attempted murder, and oh so much more. When Tiana's ship is ummmm, taken out of commission, Royan and Owen respond to the distress signal and save her life. Probably from the very moment they all met, there was chemistry (off the charts!) between the three. But can they make a go of it or will secrets destroy them? No spoilers here, yeah that is so fraxing hard to not do. There is an HEA, but the journey is a doozy!

** A sort-of Galloping Abs Society special **

The GASpod gals decided to read the fourth book in this series for one of our episodes (because it was free on Amazon at the time, which is one of our requirements), and I ended up going on a binge reading the rest of the series in order. I haven’t written reviews for the first four (Book 4 will be reviewed on GASpod but I’ll probably also write a review of my own at some point), but I’ve been tearing through this series.

Book 8 - This is easily my favorite book in this series (my favorite book… so far). I’m going to be putting some of this review in behind a spoiler wall, so I just want to give a short overview for those who don’t want that.

This book really took the idea of actually talking through each other’s feelings and having adult, reasonable conversations about expectations and ran with it. There were a few times where things could have gone the “we’re going to have an unreasonable fight because I’m making assumptions and not stopping to talk or think about the situation” route (a huge pet peeve of mine) and… didn’t. The characters take a moment, think, acknowledge their feelings, and talk about them.

description

There is a scene where that doesn’t happen but there ultimately is a good reason for it (as well as your typical “but I needed this to happen for the plot to happen,” but I’ve accepted that as a given with most romance novels).

The relationships between the characters are complicated and they acknowledge this, and then make mental notes to talk about specific things to figure out where everyone is at before moving forward with anything. They give each other space. They acknowledge that it might not work out, and they have a conversation about letting each person make their own decision and respecting that. I feel as I’ve read through the series each of these books has gotten better about this, and I really appreciate it. I tend to avoid teen fiction because unhealthy love triangles seem to be the norm, and I’ve griped about how there are so few authors who actually show healthy poly relationships where individuals actually stop and talk about their feelings, and also show that poly relationships, or any relationships, don’t just happen but actually take work. I didn’t expect to find this in a $2.99 paranormal romance book on Amazon Kindle, but here we are.

description

This book also does a really good job of fleshing out the characters, showing imperfect characters, and having characters call each other out on their bullshit. It also did the best job of the books in this series (IMO) of putting characters together who actually have a lot in common. The romance made sense, and it unfolded more or less organically (I can see how some people would disagree with that, but keep in mind that it is still a romance novel, so steamy romance is the expectation).

If you, like me, went into this book hoping for more answers on some of the things that were brought up in book 5, you’ll be mostly disappointed. I did however like the stories that were told and liked having a character coming in from a very different, in this case corporate, background. At the end we did get some tantalizing pieces of information but it mostly just added more questions rather than answering them. I’ve kind of grown to expect this from these books, and ultimately it did feel like it moved the plot along. This book was a lot more action-sci fi than the other ones and I loved that aspect of it.

Well, this wasn’t short by any means but I don’t think I really know how to do “short,” so, sorry.
----------

THE REST OF THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS. Proceed with caution. You have been warned.

These have been really long and I know I’m going deep into books that were probably never intended to be analyzed to this level (but if I don’t do it, who will??). I’m having fun though, and I definitely recommend this series to anyone who is reading this (lol). I’m blasting through these books, and honestly will probably be useless for much of anything until I’m finished, so be ready for another essay on the next one soon.

--------

Note about my rating system: 1 star - Didn’t finish, terrible, burn it all down. 2 stars - Finished it, wouldn’t recommend, barely made it through. 3 stars - Finished it, enjoyed it, probably won’t re-read but had a good time. 4 stars - Loved it, awesome, would recommend. Probably will re-read. 5 stars - What are you doing reading this? Go buy this book now and read it over and over again until you have it memorized. Comfort book, this is the bestest, 10/10 would recommend.

WOW! Royan made me laugh. Owen made me swoon. And Tia made me feel. This sexy sweet adventure has it all. Every time I thought I had it all figured out something would pop up and make me re-think. I really enjoyed this space opera.
This book is part of a series but can be read stand alone.

Great cyborg series!

The relationships in this book and series are not ones that I usually read, but the story pulls you in. I tried the first book because I had seen Susan at conferences. I’m glad that I gave her books a chance. I am loving this series. I can’t wait to read the next book.

Three attempts on Tianna life, but why?
No one expects to be naked in the shower looking forward to your apple pie, because there was no cherry when suddenly the whole ship explodes and she floating in space. Rescued by two of the tastiest men she’s ever seen Royan and Owen who are just embarking on their own romance having been friends for years.
As she explains that she is taking over the management of Astek Station which is on the Drift which is where both Owens and Royans families and friends live, both men are instantly attracted to Tianna even though she make it clear that once she reaches the station she will be solely focused on sorting out Astek Station and whatever seems to be going on there.
Tianna has her own secrets that are connected gto the major rebuild she had when she was nearly killed by her skimmer, it soon becomes apparent that someone is trying to kill her but who and why, her travels had been cloaked and only her father had known she’s left early and her route and yet the ship was blown up and then her rescues ship is attacked with her on board.
As the story continues to unravel it soon becomes apparent that there is something very suspicious going on, Astek station and the people on it are nothing like she expected, the Nova club is filled with cyborgs and they are extremely protective of them and theirs and will not stand for any threats.
As always Susan weaves another simply fantastic story filled with lots of action and and love and murder attempts, secrets and some extremely sexy moments between these three very different individuals.
Once started kits simply impossible to put this book down and the twist is a real kicker and something that you just will not see coming. It will keep you guessing to the very, very end!!
I voluntarily received and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

I LOVED this book! I love this series and have really enjoyed every single book in it, but this one was my favorite! I have been waiting for Royan to get his book - and finally find the love he deserves - and this was definitely worth the wait. Owen is the perfect foil for Royan; Owen is steady, thoughtful and solidly dependable whereas Royan can be utterly charming but has also been known to be brash, impulsive and immature. Thankfully, they are also both extremely stubborn, as is Tiana. A trait all three need to survive the adventures they find when they are off the station as well as the time they spend together on it.

One of my favorite parts of this series is how we get to see the lives of all the other trios/quads (cause Alyson got lucky enough to get triplets in Three Of A Kind (The Drift, #4) by Susan Hayes ) on Astek station as they go about their lives. My favorite is when they are in the bar that Kit, Luke and Phedra own. We are lucky enough to see them come together, as family and friends, to share in the ups and downs of everyday life. And we get to watch them enjoy, and sometimes celebrate, the lives they have carved out for themselves, and the love that gives them the strength, courage and determination to live their lives as they choose.

I’m so excited for the next book!

Susan Hayes what a fab storyteller! All of her stories has kept me so entertained and I always look forward to the next one.
I have to say I'm so glad Royan got his book! This series The Drift has been a lot of fun to read and Aces Over Queen slides right on in and with another fantastic story.

Rich and poor meet and they have a very different viewpoint on how things "have" to be. Each of them has their own experience to gauge their viewpoints on.

Then you have the playboy who's all about his next conquest, you have the quieter security ops who''s got a thing for the playboy but swears it will never work, enter the girl has both males changing gears.

In between them trying to figure out if they all have a more than a passing spark, they have to solve a mystery that is all about keeping the rich girl alive and who wants her dead. The Drift is a different life for the Queen her will her emotionless structured upbringing let her see what all Drift has to offer? or will family loyalty win ante?

Loved the storyline and how the characters just fit in with the story and together, right off that spark popped and I just loved Royan and his personality, Owen yeah he rocked as well and Tianna she grows on you and you can't help but want to hug her all up. The scenes flowed well between detail, a bit of mystery and smokin scenes. Loved all the way around. enjoy.

I love the drift Susan Hayes can really tell a story. Tianna has been a disappointment all her life brought into the world her uber rich father hired an egg donor for her conception and he has always let her know she is not what he paid for. She is being sent to Astek station where she hopes to prove herself however on the way there her ship is blown up. Rescued by two super gorgeous men Owen and Royan are immediately attracted to her. They have been friends for years but are beginning their own relationship as well. She makes it clear to them that once she is off the ship anything they have will be over as she has to devote herself to work. When she gets to the station however its nothing like she suspected both men have relatives and as she sees the real people there things change. Can there three expose the secrets that threaten Tiannas life and stay together? This is an excellent read you would think the relationship would be over complicated but it flows so well it just seems natural. It has plenty of action, secrets and incredible hot scenes. This is such an amazingly world while there are humans there are also all manor other other creatures. This is my first book in the drift series but I will be going back to read them all in order.

★ Great story with fabulous main as well as secondary characters ★

—>>> Her father was right to say not to trust anyone. Especially when Tianna's ship was destroyed - with her in it, mind you - during her journey to the Drift to take over one of her father’s stations! Trying to find out who was responsible for it was going to be difficult. But that was not her immediate problem. Luckily, her distress call was answered, and she was rescued just in time by two delicious males. Wanting to explore just being herself without the stigma of being an Astor, she pursues a temporary relationship with Royan and Owen, both of whom were not ready to say goodbye just yet, volunteering to act as her bodyguards while the threat to her life was investigated. Little did they know she was more than capable of taking care of herself, and as it turns out, it was just one secret amongst many others revealed by the time the end of this story rolls around.

Great story with fabulous main as well as secondary characters I cannot wait to read more of from this outer-reaches Drift region of the galaxy!

Aces Over Queens by Susan Hayes is the eighth book in The Drift Series. This book starts off with an explosion, mystery, and a life saving rescue. This is a wonderful and intriguing story about an heiress and two men who rescue her and become her lovers. I loved the compelling storyline and the uniqueness of the characters and setting. The interactions between the characters was whimsical, quirky, and sensual as their relationships with one another grew throughout the story. I really enjoyed reading this one book from The Drift Series and it makes me want to read the others. Even though this is the eighth book in the series it stands well on its own. This is a phenomenal science fiction romance to add to any book lovers collection. Aces Over Queens is an exciting love story!

An Sci-fi action thrill ride with a romantic heart...

Tianna Astor, Astek company heiress, has a mission. She is going clean up Astek station to her father’s standards. Being rescued by the Sun Sprite and two sexy temptations is not going to slow her down. Or is it? Royan and Owen aren’t even a couple yet and here comes this sexy ball of contradictions in sweetheart of a woman. Weaving this trio’s hopes and fears into this exciting story drew me into this “world” completely. A lot of the characters we know and love from the Drift make appearances enhancing the scope of this exhilarating read. If you like sci-fi romance, you will love this book.

What a rip-roaring adventure!
Add in a couple of hot guys and a ‘cybernized‘ in-charge woman, stir well, and the flames rise high.
Tianna is intrigued by the two men who save her. But, can she trust them? Owen is pretty serious; a big guy with a hidden past. Royan’s flippant remarks are an endless source of amusement!
Their story, and the troubles they encounter along the way make fantastic, often edge-of-your-seat reading. Don’t miss a single second of this!

Back to The Drift

Tianna Astor is the daughter of Cornelius Astor. She’s sent to Astek Station and needs rescuing.

Royan is the Captain Kirk, happy to get around to anyone and everyone.

Owen is more serious and he and Royan have been enjoying each other. Wink.

When Tianna joins their little party, it’s steam in space.

This is my first book from this author and this series and it was great. The story was well written, with strong likeable characters. The character's each brought different things to the table, yet they fit so perfectly together. The chemistry between them was steamy hot and you will not put this book down. A great read.

4.5 Stars out of 5: This is the first book I've read by this author. Ace Over Queen offers a fascinating glimpse of a galactic civilization populated with humans, more than humans and different races. At times, I felt I was reading a travelogue as we bumped against previous characters from different books in the same series. But it was a fun story.

My first time reading from this author and I really liked the story line. I couldn't put the book down once I started reading it was a funny, action packed book. The two male characters keep the story moving forward and the female are the drama. It was nice to see how she was the other and to get from under her father.

I am a little short on time right now. I just want to say I love it! It has so much in it that keeps you trying to figure it out, you don't want to put it down! I know there were a couple of times that I thought I had it & then read that place. It sure wasn't how I had sort of pictured it! I would read it & wonder how I missed that clue back a few chapters, I should have seen it. It was great to read!

Adventure, Drama, and Lots of Spice

I really enjoyed this story. It's about a corporate princess, Tianna and two freighter jockeys, Royan and Owen.
Tianna is on her way to Astek Station to oversee her father's business out there in the Drift. Her ship experiences an explosion and the guys rescue her.
Royan and Owen take her on their ship and continue to their last drop before returning to the Drift.
They all are trying to figure out who is trying to kill Tianna.

Really good

Loved seeing some of the original gang. Rogan needed stability and love. Tianna needed acceptance and support. Owen needed a family. They found love, acceptance, and each other. Tianna has a lot of secrets. Rogan just needed to show the real him and Owen is happy to have family. They had a crazy road ahead of them. It was good. More please.
