During one of the worst times in history, here is another heart-felt and terrifying chapter. Maita Floyd gives an outstanding description of what life was like for her as a young girl, family, friends and for those that resisted the Nazi’s during the time of occupied France Basque region. Her corner of the world must have been terrifying like so many during that time. I found her depiction of the region, those in the resistance, description of German officers and their part in the occupation, fight for French independence and the hardships and the oppression of those that did what they had to do to survive a well worth read. At times, I had a hard time following the story because it jumped events. Overall, a good book and read about a young girl’s shattered dreams during a horrid time in world history.
