After debarking from the train, the bride must report directly to the Espousal Alliance Office on Monroe Street, to be appointed lodgings and details about her husband-to-be.
These were the only instructions Anna Winters had received upon getting herself into this mess—or her new life, rather. But the bottom line is she’s running, pure and simple, from her warm, protected life as a young woman of upstanding birth in Concord. Now she’s about to become bride to a man she doesn’t even know, but at least it isn’t to that dastardly rake who ruined her for any other good man.
Only, the bigger problem is she’s arrived on the wrong date and the office isn’t ready to receive her. Also, she has no husband-to-be yet assigned, and there are no lodgings.
William McCoe is the owner of the best saloon in Topeka and he’s about to invest in the Santa Fe Railroad as well, which should make him a millionaire by the time he’s thirty. His aspirations are larger than his reputation for living fast and loose, so to even things out, he’s on the lookout for a woman to toy with. When he sets his sights on a sweet little miss with her nose in the air, his intrigue leads him to open communications, only to discover she’s only available if he’s in the market for marriage.
Anna arrived with other ladies to Topeka Kansas and the Espousal Alliance Office. little did Anna know she arrived two weeks early. To make it until the day she can get a husband she did the washing for the bride service.
William who owns the saloon next door comes out. It takes her a bit but they start talking and she thinks he is a rake. He keeps trying to prove her wrong.
When things go from bad to worse it is William who takes Anna in and gives her the job of managing his books.
Can he prove to Anna he is a great man or will Anna finally find a man of her dreams?
I enjoyed the story line and the characters. Anna comes out of her shell and William shows what a true gentleman is like. You can't judge a man by his job. William's take on how men would treat Anna was priceless and true. A wonderful read.
A cute enough mail-order bride story. Very quick and easy read with a twist to the typical mail-order bride storyline. I would say it was sweet and clean too. (even though the living arrangements/her employment was probably not realistic or proper for that time period)
"Anna" (The Bridal Train Book 1) by Emberly Hart is a terrific start to this new series. I enjoyed Anna and William's story. This is a sweet historical read, with romance, entertaining characters, and more. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next in this series. Highly recommend to all fans of historical romance, and series.
This is a beautifully written story. It has warmth, depth, and humour. The characters, especially Anna and William, are likeable, and believable. The author paints a vivid picture of life in the 1800’s, especially where women are concerned. I look forward to the rest of the series.
What a great start to a new series! This story brings you back to simpler times in some ways.
Anna is a woman who's parents feel like it was in her best interest to board the bridal train and find a husband in a town away from them because of a scandal and the shame she brought upon the family. In the beginning of the book, Anna was sort of excited about this arrangement after she got over the embarrassment. However once she arrives in Kansas, the date, the arrangement and the lady in charge are not how she thought it would be.
William is a business man who doesn't really care much about what people think about him. I found his character to be very interesting. He was written as a man who is a saloon owner with looser morals than a gentleman. However, he knows that Anna is different and his protective instincts kick in whenever she is around. He likes to push her buttons but he seems to know the line at what is improper.
The part that I liked the most about William had to be his take on how a man will treat Anna once she is married. He knows she is really smart and has an opinion and that the man she marries will smother that. He sees this and likes this part of Anna. I liked the character of William before this but yet this part made me love him.
I am a sucker for mail-order bride romances, they are my second favorite historical romance trope.
This is slightly different as the train that the soon to be brides ride is called the "Bridal Train" as many girls aboard are heading to a small town in Kansas to be married off by Ms. Godwin of the "Espousal Alliance Office".
Anna, even though she came from a genteel upbringing in Massachusetts, wasn't afraid to put in hard work when needed, even if she really had no idea what she was doing (because the family servants did everything for her, naturally). I loved her determination, her wit, her ingenuity, and her ability to look adversity in the eye and make the most of it.
William is a great hero. He tried to act all tough, but we know that those who think they have the hardest of hearts fall the fastest. He listened to Anna, respected her, and most of all, was an honorable man.
Sully is such a welcome secondary character, even if he is a sneaky child.
What I love the most about this is that there was very little drama and that the focus was on the growing friendship to relationship between Anna and William.
This was just the fluffy sweet romance that I needed!
Anna leaves her home after someone has taken advantage of her innocence so now in Topeka she will have lodging and a husband assigned. When she arrives a little too early she has to wait to see what life has in store for her. William owns the local saloon and is investing in the railroad and he knows he is going to strike it rich. When William sees Anna he is intrigued and decides to spend some time with her. Loved this story and the characters.

It was just a kiss. Anna travels by train to become a bride to a man she doesn’t even know of course this did not go well and she ends up having to work for a bit of a rake till a husband can be found. You will find there are characters you will like and others that are horrible even if they say they are doing a good thing. This is a book suitable for all age groups. I enjoyed the story it was a good mail-order bride romance. Emberly Hart is a new author for me but I will be looking for other work by her.
Anna is forced to become a mail order bride after a miscommunication with a beau. However, she arrives at her destination 2 weeks earlier. William is a saloon owner with a ladies man reputation. They meet when Anna is given a job at the marraige office to wait out her 2 weeks. They're both attracted to each other, but fight it for various reasons. Will they act on this attraction? Will William change his mind about marraige? Who will Anna's husband be in 2 weeks? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Sweet Historical Romance! A wonderful beginning to this new series ‘The Bridal Train’. Anna Winters travels to Topeka Kansas to meet her husband sight unseen only arrives too early. Anna falls for a most unlikely gentleman as she endures several setbacks waiting for the correct date. An engaging cast of characters in this clean romance with twist HEA ending. Enjoy!

Loved it. Mail order bride romance mystery. Anna is running from her old life and becomes Mail order bride. She arrived to early and doesn’t have a groom or lodging yet. William isn’t one to settle down but he wants Anna, she only wants marriage

I found this book so enjoyable. It had a whole new way of telling the Mail-Order Bride story. So many obstacles to jump over when you arrive two weeks earlier than expected, and so many changes to lifestyle from wealthy east coast to rough and tumble west coast. You do what you have to do to survive. Eye opening as to how rough women must have had it in the early day out west. A fun read.
The first book by this Author that I have read and I know it will not be the last one. I found this to be a well-written story that held my interest until the last page. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
